RUDN University hosted the first scientific and practical conference, "Functional Morphology of the Tissue Microenvironment: From Theory to Practice," dedicated to the memory of RAS Academician Mikhail Paltsev. It brought together leading researchers from Russia, China, and other countries, providing an important platform for discussing the translation of fundamental discoveries into personalized medicine.

At the opening, RUDN University First Vice-Rector and Vice-Rector for Research Andrey Kostin noted the key role of Academician Paltsev's scientific school and the relevance of integrating morphological research into modern healthcare. RAS Professor Ekaterina Paltseva spoke about the scientist's outstanding contribution to the development of molecular medicine.

Fundamental research as the basis for the medicine of the future

The conference focused on cutting-edge methods for studying living tissues: multiplex histology, digital spatial profiling, mitochondrial biology, and extracellular matrix ultrastructure. The presentations clearly demonstrated how the integration of cellular, molecular, and tissue-based approaches is revealing new insights into oncogenesis, fibrosis, aging, and resistance mechanisms.

Dmitry Atyakshin, Director of the RUDN University Scientific Research Center for Innovative Immunophenotyping Technologies and Doctor of Medical Sciences, highlighted the potential of multiplex histological methods in analyzing tissue microenvironments and addressing critical issues in functional morphology.

"Multiplex histological approaches hold great potential for discovering new patterns in the organization of biological tissues. The knowledge gained will aid in the development of innovative drugs and treatment protocols for a wide range of pathologies," emphasized Dmitry Atyakshin.

The center's leading researcher, Doctor of Biological Sciences Irina Chekmareva, presented research on the key role of specific cells, telocytes, in intercellular communication.

"Many serious diseases are associated with disruptions in cellular communication networks. Studying the role of telocytes and developing methods to correct disruptions in intercellular information exchange are crucial for understanding disease pathogenesis and discovering new therapeutic targets. Promising therapeutic approaches aimed at normalizing telocyte function have been developed, which promises to improve treatment outcomes for many pathologies," noted Irina Chekmareva.

International cooperation and new horizons

The active participation of Chinese colleagues from Xi'an Jiaotong University added particular significance to the event. They expressed interest in combining the technological advantages of the two countries to achieve breakthrough scientific results.

Professor Long, head of the Institute of Mitochondrial Biomedicine, presented specific proposals for the creation of a joint Russian-Chinese center for mitochondrial metabolism and tissue microenvironment at RUDN University.

Participants unanimously praised the inspiring atmosphere and high scientific level of the conference. This event will become a traditional platform for bringing together global scientific teams to achieve breakthrough results at the intersection of fundamental morphology and clinical practice.

A third of the world's countries were represented at fashion events in Moscow in 2025.

Translation. Region: Russian Federation –

Source: Moscow Government – Moscow Government –

An important disclaimer is at the bottom of this article.

The Russian capital annually strengthens its cooperation with international partners and helps domestic brands advance in promising markets. A significant event for the fashion industry was Moscow Fashion WeekIt was held for the fifth time from August 28 to September 2, 2025. Compared to the fourth season, its attendance doubled, reaching 120,000 people. The number of participating designers also doubled, reaching more than 360, noted Natalia Sergunina, Deputy Mayor of Moscow.

"Over all seasons, contracts worth over a billion rubles have been signed, a third of which is the result of the fifth Fashion Week. But the real economic impact is even greater. Moscow Fashion Week provides an additional impetus for the development of event tourism, the creative sector of the economy, the manufacturing industry, and other related sectors," said Natalia Sergunina.

The project's key objectives are to promote domestic producers, expand their presence in domestic and international markets, and foster cultural exchange, as the fashion industry encompasses more than just clothing design and production.

Anniversary season

Representatives from 13 countries, from China and India to Turkey and South Africa, participated in the fifth Moscow Fashion Week. Designers from 33 Russian cities presented their collections: Moscow, St. Petersburg, Simferopol, Murmansk, Krasnodar, Kazan, Yakutsk, Chelyabinsk, Rostov-on-Don, Omsk, Yekaterinburg, and others.

The World Fashion Shorts short film festival showcased works by directors from Russia, Argentina, Brazil, and other countries.

As always, expert meetings were popular. They held 25 lectures on fashion traditions, continuity, and digital technologies in the industry, and discussed the integration of cultural codes into contemporary design. Similar themes were reflected on the catwalk. For example, one Russian brand presented a collection inspired by 20th-century aesthetics and Sergei Diaghilev's famous "Russian Seasons." This was both a tribute to our history and a promotion of Russian culture.

BRICS Fashion Summit

Since 2023, a major business event, an international forum, has been held under the auspices of Moscow Fashion Week. BRICS Fashion SummitOver the course of its history, it has brought together hundreds of Russian and international designers, heads of leading companies, managers, experts from industry associations, and journalists from109 states.

In 2025, the forum attracted over 260 professionals from 65 countries—a third of the world's nations. Delegates were also treated to special sessions on South Africa, Brazil, and Russia's national character. Visitors to the "Native Motifs" exhibition were introduced to the costumes of Russia's ethnic groups and the current fashion trends created using them.

At the forum, memorandums of understanding were signed with the city of Rio de Janeiro and the organizers of China Fashion Week. The documents envisage a long-term cultural and business partnership.

The International Fashion Federation BRICS facilitates the expansion of cooperation. Declaration Its creation was signed in Moscow last year. The organization currently includes 60 countries.

Thanks to Moscow Fashion Week and the BRICS Fashion Summit, Russian designers are increasingly being invited by their international counterparts. They have already participated in industry events in Indonesia, China, Turkey, India, and Costa Rica. In 2026, Russian brands are planning to expand their presence, including in the Western Hemisphere.

Opportunities for development

The "Made in Moscow" program has become an important tool for promoting local brands. One in five of its residents is associated with the fashion industry. Over the course of Moscow Fashion Week, more than 135 Moscow designers showcased their collections.

The art pavilions of the Made in Moscow program operated as part of a large-scale project Summer in MoscowTwo of them—on Kuznetsky Most and Bolotnaya Square—offered fashionable looks. The "Clothing" and "Green Market" markets located there showcased over 30,000 products. Attendance at the Green Market on Bolotnaya Square increased by 50% this year. Thanks to the "Summer in Moscow" project, 260 clothing, footwear, and accessory manufacturers showcased their products.

With the city's export support, Moscow projects are entering promising markets in China, India, Malaysia, and the United Arab Emirates. Business missions are organized for them and they are invited to participate in international exhibitions. Since 2018, thanks to Moscow Export Center 26 fashion industry companies were introduced to foreign marketplaces.

Additionally, local brands can reimburse equipment and employee training costs, conduct pilot testing of new materials at suitable sites, and receive grants to patent inventions and utility models in Russia and other countries. All of this is part of the city's comprehensive support for entrepreneurs.
