The Polytechnic University team performed brilliantly in the St. Petersburg Student Football Cup and confidently reached the final, defeating their opponents one after another.

The final match took place on October 28, where our football players faced the team from the St. Petersburg State University of Industrial Technologies and Design.

The match ended 1-1 in regulation time. The fate of the trophy was decided in a penalty shootout, where the Polytechnicians demonstrated resilience and fortitude, securing victory.

Andrey Ivashnev was named the final's best player. The Black Bears defender scored a key equalizer 10 minutes before the end of regulation time, and in the penalty shootout, he fired a precise shot into the top right corner of the net.

Danil Subbotin also became the star of the penalty shootout, skillfully parrying his opponent's shot.

The SPbPU team competed among teams from Russian nuclear power plants and Rosatom State Corporation's flagship universities at the All-Russian Digital Sports Festival "Digital Atom," dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the nuclear industry. The festival was organized by Rosenergoatom Concern, and its Center for Modern Sports Technologies served as the operator.

The SPbPU Extreme Sports and Technical Creativity Club team continues to take top places in the all-around automobile competition.

The final round of the St. Petersburg Championship and Junior Championship at the Igora Drive circuit featured three track types: classic high-speed maneuvering and two non-standard courses. The KSTT "Extreme" team demonstrated consistent results across all disciplines, which impacted the competition's outcome: the team took silver at both the Igora and the year-end championships. The stage was won by Ilya Shitik, a student at the Institute of Secondary Vocational Education at SPbPU. He finished third in his second St. Petersburg Championship at the end of the year.

"It's always nice to win. I'm glad that our efforts in preparing both ourselves and the team's Lada Granta are paying off," the Polytechnician commented on the successful performance.

Another team member, the experienced Pavel Alekseev, took bronze at the stage and silver at the end of the year championship.

"It's been a challenging year, but we know what we need to address and what needs to be fixed, so I have no doubt it will only get better," Pavel shared.

It's also worth noting the young blood: 15-year-old Viktor Sorokin demonstrated good speed throughout the season, which allowed him to win silver in the St. Petersburg championship.

At the final of the Northwestern Federal District Championship in Veliky Novgorod, the team gold and first two places were again won by Ilya Shitik and Pavel Alekseev, but this time the top step of the podium was conquered by a more experienced athlete.

"It's always great when there's competition on a team. Then no one stands still and everyone strives to improve not only themselves but also their peers," says Sergei Korovay, the team's coach and a mechanic at the Department of Transport and Mechanization at SPbPU.

After finishing fifth last year, the SPbPU team stormed into the 2025 season and won the Higher League of the St. Petersburg Student Sports League in chess without a single defeat.

From October 8th to 15th, the 2025 St. Petersburg Student Sports League team chess tournament was held in our city. The competition was held in a five-round round-robin format with a classic time control of 90 minutes per game plus 30 seconds per move.

The team from Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University showed a flawless result: 5 wins out of 5 possible (the only team to do so), first place in team points, individual results, and game discipline.

From September 23 to 29, the 7th World Chessboxing Championships were held in Serbia. The Russian team, which included athletes from the Polytechnic University, triumphed.

The competition program included three disciplines: “classic chessboxing”, “light chessboxing” and “fit chessboxing”.

The competition featured 176 athletes from 17 countries. The Russian team, led by coach Andrey Skorokhodov, took first place in the team standings, winning 74 medals. Of these, 29 were in classic chessboxing, 28 in light chessboxing, and 17 in fit chessboxing.

The USA team took second place, and the French team took third.

The St. Petersburg team demonstrated impressive results overall. Polytechnic University athletes brought home nine medals for the Russian team.

Sofia Argandeykina won gold in the chessboxing-light category, silver in chessboxing-classic and bronze in chessboxing-fit;

Alexandra Noskova won two gold medals: in the chessboxing classic and chessboxing light categories;

September 14 will forever remain in the history of student hockey. The final of the first ever Super Cup of the Student Hockey League took place at the small arena of the Yubileiny sports complex, where Black Bears-Polytech won a confident victory over the West of Russia team with a score of 5:2.

Match progress

The game started off against the hosts: in the first minutes Daniil Melnik put Zapad Rossii ahead. However, the Politekh hockey players quickly came to their senses. At the end of the first period Nikita Kanukhin evened the score.

The second period was a turning point. Ivan Balykin put the Bears ahead, and Tigran Martirosyan doubled the advantage. Despite a goal by Danil Demin, which reduced the gap to a minimum, the initiative remained with the home team. The Black Bears made a decisive breakthrough in the third period. Yaroslav Abornev opened the scoring in the period, and Igor Ranyev put the final point, setting the final score of 5:2.

Recognition of merit

The tournament organizers especially noted the contribution of Alexander Butorin to the team's victory. His play was one of the key factors in the Bears' success in the decisive match.

This year's Russian Chessboxing Federation Cup was held at the Polytechnic Sports Complex at SPbPU. From August 21 to 24, the country's strongest athletes competed in the ring and at the chessboards. Among the participants were our students Alexandra Noskova, Konstantin Kotovich, Sofia Argandeykina, Elizaveta Orlova, Margarita Golubova, as well as university lecturer Anatoly Shchukin.
