This year the Polytechnic University became the leader among St. Petersburg universities in the number of first-year students enrolled in the SVO and their children. 252 applicants were admitted under a separate quota, 104 of them without entrance examinations. The university intends to continue supporting these students, providing them with existing social support measures.

Thus, out-of-town students have the right to priority accommodation in the Polytechnic dormitories. And in the future, according to the director of the Student City Vyacheslav Olshevsky, those of them who successfully master the educational program may have their living conditions improved – they may be provided with a place in a room with increased comfort.

The friendly atmosphere in the dormitories allows the students to feel like part of a large group. And if necessary, a full-time psychologist of the SPbPU Student City can always come to the rescue and provide qualified assistance, says Vyacheslav Olshevsky.

Support for children of SVO participants is systematically provided by the Department of Youth Policy and, in particular, by its structural subdivision – Psychological support center "Point of support". Qualified psychologists work with them individually and in groups. The main topics of requests are related to problems in relationships with loved ones, peers, anxiety about the future, difficulties in choice and special emotional experiences.

Thanks to individual counseling (on average, in five sessions), specialists usually manage to achieve general stabilization of the condition of the person seeking help, find resources and draw up an action plan for the near future. In group and online formats, work is carried out with already relatively stable categories: here, the topics of fears and anxieties, self-determination and other requests are worked out.

In special situations, psychologists may recommend contacting specialized doctors (neurologist, psychiatrist, psychotherapist) for more systematic and serious support.

To restore mental comfort and strength after studying, students can take advantage of discounted vouchers to the Polytechnic recreation centers.

Two seasonal:

educational and health resort "Polytechnic" in the village of Novomikhaylovsky, Tuapse district, Krasnodar region (from May to September),educational and tourist base "Polytechnic" in the village of Gory in the Leningrad region (from May to October).

And two operate all year round:

educational and historical reserve "A.G. Gagarin's Estate "Kholomki"educational and sports base of SPbPU "Polytechnic" in the village of Toksovo.

Students and employees of SPbPU, under a collective agreement, can purchase vouchers at a reduced price, and preferential categories of citizens, which include SVO participants and their family members, will receive an additional 10% discount.

The University also provides financial support to students whose parents or guardians are serving in the military or died as a result of military operations in the SVO zone. In 2024, 56 people applied for assistance, the same number in 2025. The total amount of payments for two years was 2,895,000 rubles.

An important disclaimer is at the bottom of this article.

In the Kalininsky district of St. Petersburg, repair work on Khlopina Street has been completed. The issue of the need to renew the road surface was raised atpersonal reception of citizens, which the Governor of St. Petersburg Alexander Beglov held on November 29, 2024. Then the city leadership was addressed by the Associate Professor of the Higher School of Public Administration, Deputy Director of the Institute of Mechanics and Technology, Maxim Ivanov. On the instructions of the Governor, a large-scale set of measures was implemented to improve street infrastructure.

During the repair the following works were carried out:

More than 7,000 square meters of road surface and sidewalks were renewed; new thermoplastic markings were applied; speed bumps were installed to improve safety; curbstones were lowered to provide an accessible environment for people with limited mobility, elderly people, and parents with strollers.

The repairs were completed within the established timeframe and in compliance with the required quality standards.

The Governor of St. Petersburg noted that over 108 thousand people live within the boundaries of the Akademicheskoe municipal district, where Khlopina Street runs. The importance of the work carried out is also due to the fact that by the end of 2025, a major overhaul of Gzhatskaya Street, which intersects with Khlopina, will be completed. The new circuit will ensure movement around the microdistrict without exiting onto key highways – Grazhdansky Prospekt and Prospekt Nepokorennykh.

When we talk about the comfort and safety of the urban environment, it is important not only to develop initiatives in theory, but also to achieve their practical implementation. It is nice to see that our proposal was heard and implemented. This is an example of how science and government can work in the interests of society. Together – to a comfortable and safe St. Petersburg! Together we make the city better. Only forward! – said Maxim Ivanov.

The implementation of the project has become a vivid example of effective interaction between the government, the scientific community and citizens. Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University, the Institute of Industrial Management, Economics and Trade and the Higher School of Public Administration continue to contribute to the development of the urban environment, and the student association "Public Administration Laboratory" demonstrates the practical significance of applied research in the field of state and municipal administration.

The Great Voyage of the Argo: Archaeologists from the Polytechnic University Search for the Treasures of the Khazar Khaganate

Translation. Region: Russian Federal

An important disclaimer is at the bottom of this article.

The student archaeological team "Argo" went to the Samara region for the work season to work as volunteers in the "Ancient World" archaeological park near the village of Kamenny Brod and to take part in the Middle Volga archaeological expedition in the village of Vlast Truda.

As a rule, archaeological teams are engaged in excavations, but in the "Ancient World" the Argonauts had other tasks: landscaping the territory, restoring the historical complex after a fire, making bricks, cutting down trees for sanitary purposes, building a Botai dwelling and providing various types of assistance to museum staff.

The second place of work – the Middle Volga AE – has already become a habit: here the guys, armed with shovels and scrapers, are engaged in the search for artifacts from the times of the Khazar Khaganate.

And in their free time, students participate in master classes on clay modeling, fabric stamping, fight with training swords, and interact with domestic animals. They also enrich their geographical horizons – they visited Samara and Novokuibyshevsk, visited local attractions and an aquatic center.

"This is my first year in the squad movement and my first archaeological season. I was very worried the whole time, and especially after receiving the tickets in my hands – I'm definitely going, this will definitely happen, and the main thing is not to chicken out," shared Polina Yashchenko, candidate of the SAO "Argo". – As it turned out, my worries were mostly in vain. I only forgot my headlamp, thanks to which I could admire the stars all night long. We went to Samara to first work in the "Ancient World" archaeological center, where we helped create Neolithic buildings and arrange the territory for visitors. Then we had excavations – I was terribly afraid that it would be difficult to work with a shovel if I was not used to it, but the squad helped me cope with this."

Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University continues to welcome new students — this time at the Institute of Secondary Vocational Education (ISPO). On August 15, the Polytechnic College opened its doors to 530 applicants enrolled in budget places.

ISPO accepts 9th and 11th grade graduates. When submitting documents, applicants can choose up to three budget specialties and one on a contract basis, ranking them in order of priority. Enrollment is based on the average grade point average of the certificate. 355 places are financed from the federal budget, and 175 from the budget of St. Petersburg.

The 2025 admission campaign to the ISPO SPbPU demonstrated the growing popularity of secondary vocational education. This year, more than 6,500 applications were submitted to the budget from applicants. The greatest interest was aroused by the specialties "Information Systems and Programming", "Computer Systems and Complexes", "Tourism and Hospitality". A new specialty "Web Development" was also opened in 2025.

This year, 481 contract places have been allocated for nine full-time specialties and 90 places for three correspondence specialties. More than 2,000 applications have already been submitted, and the acceptance of documents for fee-based education continues until August 18.

"This year, for the first time, we accepted applications through the Unified Portal of State Services. The ISPO Admissions Committee included more than 40 college employees and university information service specialists, which allowed us to quickly process all the information, including answering applicants' questions and helping them submit documents," said Roman Baibikov, Director of the Institute of Secondary Vocational Education. St. Petersburg scientists have proposed a new antiviral drug

Translation. Region: Russian Federal

An important disclaimer is at the bottom of this article.

Scientists from Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University, together with colleagues from the A. A. Smorodintsev Research Institute of Influenza of the Russian Ministry of Health, have obtained recombinant interferon-lambda, known as type 3 interferon, in laboratory conditions. It protects humans from viral infections and at the same time has a number of advantages over type 1 and type 2 interferons. About this reports RIA Novosti.

Interferons are proteins that are produced in response to viral invasion and prevent their reproduction. Lambda interferons act locally, mainly on the mucous membrane of the respiratory tract, without causing excessive activation of the immune system and serious side effects characteristic of alpha interferons.

According to experts, experiments have shown the effectiveness of the new drug not only for prevention, but also for treatment at an early stage of the disease, as well as for secondary infections.

At the same time, scientists warn that in the acute phase of the disease, interferons, especially the first type, should be used with caution.

The research team plans to create a drug in the form of nasal drops or spray.
