Employees of the Civil Engineering Institute participated in the Nevsky Construction Forum 2025. The event is a key platform for discussing current issues related to the development of the construction industry and the digitalization of urban planning.

The Civil Engineering Institute was represented by Marina Petrochenko, Director of the Institute of Civil Engineering, Yegor Melekhin, Assistant Professor at the Higher School of Industrial, Civil, and Road Construction, and Elena Chegotova, Senior Lecturer at the Higher School of Industrial, Civil, and Road Construction and an expert in urban planning legislation, technical regulation, and digitalization in construction.

Egor Melekhin actively participated in the Smart Cases case conference, where participants shared experiences, analyzed successful and unsuccessful practices, and identified the best solutions to pressing problems in the construction industry. In his presentation, he emphasized the need to optimize design processes, such as the classification of information model elements. He presented the development of the software product "IMPULSE," which automates the process of classifying building information model elements. The program uses artificial intelligence and machine learning technologies, achieving forecasting accuracy of up to 97%. Egor Melekhin emphasized that AI is not only popular language models or image generation, but also a powerful tool for analyzing various types of data. The ISI team is currently working to improve the program's mechanism and promote the use of AI to optimize construction tasks.

Elena Chegotova actively participated in the forum on both the first and second days as an expert, making a significant contribution to the discussion of digitalization and regulatory issues in construction.

The forum concluded with a Smart Visit for the delegation to the Civil Engineering Institute. Forum guests were given a tour of MetaCampus, where they were able to learn about the Institute's developments. Participants also visited the Additive Technologies and 3D Printing training laboratory, where they saw cutting-edge construction technologies firsthand.

We are pleased to participate in such a large-scale event as the Nevsky Construction Forum 2025. We believe it is important not only to highlight Polytechnic University's achievements but also to demonstrate them in the laboratories of the Civil Engineering Institute. The 44th All-Russian Student Olympiad in Strength of Materials (third round) was held at the Nizhny Novgorod State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering (NNGASU). Seventy students from 20 technical universities across Russia and a team from Belarus participated.

Saint Petersburg was represented by four Polytechnic students: winners of the regional stage: Diana Shvetsova and Anna Andreeva from the Civil Engineering Institute, and Maya Varennikova and Anastasia Ambrosovskaya from the Institute of Physics and Mechanics. The Polytechnic team was led by Daria Kitaeva, Associate Professor at the Higher School of Mechanics and Control Processes (HSMMCP). The students were trained by HSMMCP Associate Professor Elena Yakovleva and Senior Lecturers Irina Chirareva and Alexey Grishchenko.

Participants were given four hours to solve six challenging problems, each of which was assessed on a ten-point scale by a jury of instructors accompanying the teams. The problems were prepared by specialists from the All-Russian Olympiads in Strength of Materials section of the Federal Educational and Methodological Association (FUMO) in Higher Education for Major Groups of Specialties and Fields of Study 15.00.00 "Mechanical Engineering."

At the All-Russian round of the Strength of Materials Olympiad, participants competed in team and individual competitions. Based on the Olympiad's problems, the Polytechnic University team took third place in the team standings, only slightly behind teams from Bauman Moscow State Technical University and Perm National Research Polytechnic University (PNRPU). Among the SPbPU participants, Maya Varennikova, a third-year student at the Higher School of Theoretical Mechanics and Mathematical Physics at the PhysMechanics and Mechanics Institute, performed best and achieved the highest result—fourth place in the individual standings. Strength of materials has historically been considered one of the most challenging subjects in technical education due to the breadth of the discipline and the complexity of its teaching methods. Teachers and students of the Higher School of Design and Architecture of the Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University's Civil Engineering Institute took part in a charity project to improve the territory of the educational and historical reserve "Prince A. G. Gagarin's Estate "Kholomki"" in the Pskov Region. The ICI team carried out landscaping work on the territory of the Ascension Church in the village of Belskoye Ustye, making their contribution to preserving the cultural heritage of the region.

The following took part in the project from the Civil Engineering Institute: Director of the Higher School of Design and Architecture Margarita Perkova, teachers and staff of the Higher School of Design and Architecture ISI – Olga Vul, Elena Ladik, Mekhti Mezentsev, Andrey Zaitsev, as well as undergraduate students Angelina Sladkevich, Valeria Shirkhanova and Fyodor Vasiliev.

During the trip, the students began the first stage of landscaping – they carefully prepared the flowerbeds at the main entrance to the church, planted the first flowers and plants, creating the basis for the future beautiful design of the territory. Decorative compositions of stones were installed, various varieties of hydrangeas, junipers, roses, hostas, decorative wormwood, thyme and even remontant strawberries with bright red flowers were planted. The project for the improvement of the church territory was developed by graduate students Vera Rogaleva and Valeria Solodovnikova under the supervision of Margarita Perkova as part of the summer practice.

The Kholomki estate, located 15 kilometers from the city of Porkhov in the Pskov region, was founded in the early 20th century by Prince Andrei Grigorievich Gagarin, an outstanding scientist and the first rector of the St. Petersburg Polytechnic University. The main house of the estate was built according to the design of the famous architect Ivan Aleksandrovich Fomin in the neoclassical style. This mansion became a symbol of the "golden age" of Russian estates.

In 1914, during the First World War, a hospital for soldiers of the Siberian regiment was set up here. In 1918, the estate was transformed into the People's House named after V. I. Lenin, where theme nights and performances were held, gathering residents of the entire Porkhov district. Later, a House of Creativity was created in the estate, which became a place of attraction for Petrograd writers and artists. In 2000, the estate was transferred to the Polytechnic University for permanent ownership and received the status of a structural subdivision. Today, it is a unique educational and historical reserve that maintains a connection between the past and the present. Not far from the estate is the Church of the Ascension of the Lord, built in 1796 by Colonel Artemon Kozhin on his estate. Decades later, in the early 1860s, his son Pyotr Kozhin decided to build a new church in the style of early classicism with baroque elements according to the design of the St. Petersburg architect Shestakov.

Over its long history, the church has witnessed many significant events. In 1920, Prince A. G. Gagarin was buried here. Unfortunately, in the 1960s, the church was closed due to its emergency condition. Only in 2014 did large-scale restoration work begin.

On September 13, the creativity festival "Otkrytie" was held in the student campus on Lesnaya. The event, organized by the administration of the Student Club of the Directorate of Cultural Programs and Youth Creativity, became a pass to the future for the most active first-year students.

The festival featured a full range of cultural and leisure activities: two theaters, two choirs, two vocal studios, a pop-symphony orchestra, a dance studio, KVN and other groups. The studios and associations of the Student Club surprised everyone with so many things! Guests learned to draw music, got acquainted with rare photographic equipment, participated in a show, launched a drum from the musical show "Don't Sleep!" and received predictions for the academic year. The Polytechnic Student Theater held express trainings, and the People's University Theater "Glagol" invited behind the scenes. At all stations, students earned game currency, which could be exchanged for memorable gifts in the Student Club souvenir shop or saved for the big auction.

At the Otkrytie festival, we, together with the Ingenium orchestra, played games with guests and looked for talented polytechnic students — future members of our orchestra. The student club is a place to meet new friends and realize your talents, — shared 2nd-year student of the Institute of Biological Sciences and Biology Savva Ivanov.

The creative space of the festival was an interactive map of the annual events of the Student Club: for a couple of minutes, the Polytechnicians found themselves in the atmosphere of "ArtCamp" – a traditional trip for first-year students, the intellectual and entertaining game "FastBrain", Maslenitsa and the legendary project "Dances. Polytechnic". The Ecological Community "Regrin" and the United Student Council of Dormitories also joined the festival.

The atmosphere of the festival made a huge impression! A big gala concert prepared by the studios, many interactive activities and absolutely different decorations. It was especially nice to see how many kids are interested in creativity and immediately sign up for the groups they liked! – shared first-year student of the IPMET Maria Akimenko.

The center of attraction was the stage, where for two hours the participants of the Youth Choir "Polyhymnia", vocal studio "Polivoks", Chamber Choir, dance studio PolyDance, as well as finalists and participants of the project "Star of Polytech", artists of the musical show "Don't Sleep!" and beatbox master Ekaterina Pautova performed. The finale of the evening was the viewing of a cartoon in the open air.

The exhibition "Road of Life – Road of Labor" is located in the salon of the bus "Volzhanin-6270.06 Cityritm-15". It is dedicated to the heroic feat of civilian transport specialists on the Road of Life during the years of the Leningrad blockade. In the mobile museum complex you can see rare exhibits and even feel like a driver of the legendary "one and a half ton truck".

What is interesting about this bus? It was created on a voluntary basis, with their own hands. There is a proverb: if the mountain does not come to Mohammed, Mohammed goes to the mountain. In this case: if there is no opportunity to visit the museum yourself, then it will come to you. I think that this is very cool, – notes the director of the SPbPU History Museum Valery Klimov.

Military highways 101 and 102, also known as the "Road of Life", were serviced by various vehicles, including heavy trucks YaG-6. But the main symbol of the Ladoga ice road remained the legendary "one and a half" GAZ-AA.

The production of these vehicles began in 1932 at the Gorky Automobile Plant. Despite its relatively small weight (1,750 kg), the GAZ-AA could move on ice 20 cm thick. However, drivers often took risks and drove onto thinner ice, which often led to tragic consequences – many trucks fell through, taking their drivers and passengers with them. These vehicles were raised from the bottom of Lake Ladoga both during the war and in our time.

The "one-and-a-half" trucks transported evacuated residents of besieged Leningrad to the eastern shore of Lake Ladoga, and delivered back food, industrial goods, coal and raw materials for the enterprises operating in the besieged city.

In addition to trucks, about 100 buses, including the ZIS-8 model, worked on the Road of Life. Their production began in 1934 on the basis of the ZIS-5 truck ("Zakhar Ivanovich") – the flagship of Stalin's automobile industry. The design of the ZIS-8 was typical for buses of that time: a wooden frame with metal sheathing and a canvas roof impregnated with waterproof paint.

It is interesting that these cars were produced not only in Moscow, but also in Leningrad, and the Leningrad models were distinguished by their particular elegance: chrome parts and three-color paint.

This year, most of our first-year students are not from St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region, but from other regions. For them, the concepts of “September 8” and “the Leningrad Blockade” are something very distant. But for us, Leningraders, it is close. Of course, people should know about those difficult days of the blockade, they should remember, because there was no such battle in the history of all mankind. We call it the blockade of the city, but there were battles. The Battle of Leningrad lasted more than 800 days. It is hard to imagine that in the middle of the 20th century, people were dying of hunger. This is a terrible thing. History, unfortunately, does not teach, but it is worth learning from. The participants of the exhibition emphasize that the excursion allowed them to take a new look at the Road of Life and significantly deepen their knowledge of this significant stage in the history of our city. Many people previously believed that the Road of Life was only a path across Lake Ladoga, but they had no idea that, in fact, the road was much longer and more dangerous.

The exhibition on the territory of the Polytechnic University can be visited by all employees and students of the university. The exhibition also interested residents of the Kalininsky district, who could not pass by and dropped in on a tour in the "Museobus".

The project "Museobus – Like a museum, only a bus!" is being implemented using a grant from the President of the Russian Federation for the development of civil society, provided by the Presidential Grants Fund. The musical festival “Strauss Gala” marked the beginning of the new concert season in the White Hall – the 20th in its modern history.

You enter the assembly hall and are involuntarily surprised by its size… The hall is all white with a stucco ceiling, with huge windows in two rows, wide ceilings pouring in waves of light. Along three walls stretch choirs supported by light balustrades, – wrote the newspaper "Birzhevye Vedomosti" on October 2, 1902.

The history of the hall and the history of the university are common. The ceremonial opening of the Polytechnic Institute on October 1, 1902 took place in the White Hall. Many historical events took place there – from speeches of the country's political leaders to creative evenings of famous poets and actors. Permanent concert activity in the White Hall began 100 years later. On September 1, 2005, the hall opened after restoration with a concert by Vladimir Spivakov and the Moscow Virtuosi Orchestra.

"This performance became a kind of standard for all subsequent concerts in the White Hall," says Boris Kondin, head of the Directorate of Cultural Programs and Youth Creativity at SPbPU, who took charge of this work 20 years ago. September 14 will forever remain in the history of student hockey. The final of the first ever Super Cup of the Student Hockey League took place at the small arena of the Yubileiny sports complex, where Black Bears-Polytech won a confident victory over the West of Russia team with a score of 5:2.

The game started off against the hosts: in the first minutes Daniil Melnik put Zapad Rossii ahead. However, the Politekh hockey players quickly came to their senses. At the end of the first period Nikita Kanukhin evened the score.

The second period was a turning point. Ivan Balykin put the Bears ahead, and Tigran Martirosyan doubled the advantage. Despite a goal by Danil Demin, which reduced the gap to a minimum, the initiative remained with the home team. The Black Bears made a decisive breakthrough in the third period. Yaroslav Abornev opened the scoring in the period, and Igor Ranyev put the final point, setting the final score of 5:2.

The tournament organizers especially noted the contribution of Alexander Butorin to the team's victory. His play was one of the key factors in the Bears' success in the decisive match.
