In September, a group of young engineers, participants in the Polytechnic University's "Engineering League" rocket science intensive, embarked on a truly cosmic journey. They visited the legendary Baikonur Cosmodrome, where they not only witnessed the launch of the Soyuz-2.1a launch vehicle but also experienced the history of space exploration.

The trip was organized by the Polytechnic University's Student Admissions Center and coincided with the 27th International Conference "Rocket Modeling in Aerospace Education for Young People." The event brought together 154 young researchers from Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, and other countries to discuss the design, construction, and launch of rocket models.

The Polytechnic delegation was accompanied by Yegor Temirgaliev, a senior lecturer at the Higher School of Industrial Management. The group included 10 students from St. Petersburg schools passionate about space and rocket science. Their stay at Baikonur was extremely intensive. The students lived on the grounds of the Chelomey International Space School (ISS), and were personally guided on tours by the ISS director and cosmodrome staff—all industry experts.

Over the course of a week, the young polytechnic students saw almost everything. They visited Assembly and Test Building (ATB) No. 112, where the Soyuz rockets are assembled, stood at the Gagarin Launch Pad—the historic site where the first human spaceflight began, and saw the Buran orbiter's landing complex and the Energia rocket launch command post.

They also visited the memorial houses of Sergei Korolev and Yuri Gagarin, which preserve the unique atmosphere of the era of the first space victories, and strolled along Cosmonaut Alley, where every tree was planted by cosmonauts. The highlight of the trip was the launch of the Soyuz-2.1a launch vehicle carrying supplies for the ISS, which the participants observed from a short distance. This spectacle left no one indifferent.

Safira Tavliyarova, an 11th-grade student at Academic Gymnasium No. 56, shared her impressions: "The moment the fuel ignites, the entire sky is bathed in a bright light; it feels like the sun has returned for a moment. The flames flare up and rise. Everything around you bursts into flames, and you feel the warmth on your face, even though you're a kilometer away. You feel the vibrations of the rocket's takeoff through your entire body. This event reminded me that anything is possible in this world."

As Safira noted, the journey to Baikonur took almost two days, including a flight, a border crossing by car, and a train ride. However, all the difficulties were worth it, thanks to the unforgettable experience of immersing yourself in the world of cosmonautics.

"This trip left a warm, pleasant mark on my life. In my opinion, such impressions, emotions, and events are worth living for," she added.

This trip is a shining example of the Polytechnic University's strategy for engaging talented young people. The Engineering League project allows schoolchildren not only to gain theoretical knowledge in rocket science but also to see its practical application in the real economy, meet future employers, and immerse themselves in the professional environment.

Today, the 2nd Russian-Kyrgyz Educational Forum opened in Bishkek. The forum focused on the contribution of Russian and Kyrgyz universities to the development of the economies and societies of both countries, as well as practical cooperation with industrial partners, primarily through Russian-Kyrgyz consortiums of technical, medical, and agricultural universities.

Today's meeting is an important step toward creating a common educational, scientific, and technical space. Modern challenges, economic transformation, and the development of new industries, medicine, agriculture, and geotechnology make our cooperation strategically essential, noted Baktiyar Orozov, Minister of Science, Higher Education, and Innovation of the Kyrgyz Republic, in his welcoming speech.

A delegation from Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University, led by Rector and RAS Academician Andrey Rudskoy, played a key role in the forum. An agreement was also signed with KRSU and Irbis-Kurulush on joint projects in digital modeling in construction. A Student Design Bureau will be opened at KRSU.

Three agreements were signed with Salymbekov University to launch joint international double-degree bachelor's degree programs in the areas of "Digital Enterprise Economics," "International Logistics," and "International Business."

Alexander Nikolaevich Kobyshev, a well-known and respected figure at the Polytechnic University and an Honorary Worker of SPbPU, who dedicated almost his entire life to the university, has passed away.

Alexander Kobyshev entered the Leningrad Polytechnic Institute in 1966. He studied in the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, specializing in "Machines and Technology of Metal Forming." As a student, and later, he was a Komsomol activist: already in his first year, he was elected as a Komsomol group organizer, a member of the course Komsomol bureau in his second year, and then a member of the faculty Komsomol bureau. As part of the Institute's Friendship Council, Alexander established international contacts with youth organizations from various countries.

In 1972, after receiving a degree in mechanical engineering, he worked as a junior research fellow in the Department of Machines and Technologies for Metal Forming and as an assistant in the Department of Machine Parts. He worked on hydrostatic deformation of metals—stamping using liquids—and in 1975 won the Lenin Komsomol Prize in Science and Technology for Young Scientists.

In 1976, he defended his PhD dissertation. He returned to the Department of Machines and Technologies for Metal Forming, first as a senior research fellow and then as an associate professor. In 1983, Alexander Nikolaevich was appointed Dean of International Students, and in the absence of the Vice-Rector for International Relations, he served as Acting Dean.

In 1989, Alexander Nikolaevich's professional career entered a new phase: the Progress Management and Marketing Center was established at the M. I. Kalinin Polytechnic Institute, and Alexander Nikolaevich was appointed its director. Two years later, the center was transferred from the Polytechnic's jurisdiction to the Council of Ministers, becoming a government organization. It offered training in management, marketing, economics, finance, and logistics, and its lecturers were primarily Polytechnic faculty.

For 20 years, Alexander Nikolaevich headed the Center for Metallurgical Mechanics and Control, and concurrently taught as a professor in the departments of Economics and Management of Metallurgical Production and Economics and Management of Technologies and Materials. In 2009, he returned to the Polytechnic University and became first the director of the Center for Management and Marketing at SPbSPU, then the head of the Corporate Public Relations Department, which he led until 2018. It was during this time that the Polytechnic University established Alumni Relations Center, which continues to operate successfully today. In 2016, the Center won a tender from the Ministry of Education and Science to host an international forum of graduates of Russian (Soviet) universities in the Republic of Belarus. The forum was held at the Russian-Belarusian University in Mogilev. Under the leadership of A. N. Kobyshev, the university's logo (registered with Rospatent) and emblem were developed, approved by the Heraldic Council under the President of the Russian Federation.

In 2019, Alexander Nikolaevich served as Acting Director of the Higher School of Creative Industry and Design at the Institute of Metallurgical and Artistic Sciences. For the past several years, he has worked as a leading specialist at the SPbPU History Museum and written a book about the Polytechnic University. The first volume, "Polytechnic University. A project-analytical session dedicated to the development program for the Russian-Tajik (Slavic) University for 2026–2030 was held in Dushanbe. The event was organized by Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University.

The session brought together the leadership and faculty of RTSU, as well as experts from SPbPU. The Polytechnic University was represented by Maria Vrublevskaya, Vice-Rector for Human Resources Development; Nikita Golovin, Deputy Head of the International Cooperation Office and Head of the Slavic Universities Project Office; and Anastasia Chasovnikova, Head of the Strategic Planning and Development Department.

The work was conducted in thematic groups focused on key areas of the university's development: educational and scientific policy, human capital management, and social mission. Participants conducted a situational analysis, developed a target model, and developed strategic goals and elements of a roadmap for the university's development.

Based on the current RTSU development program, which includes a mission, target model, and objectives for developing core processes, the PAS participants analyzed the university's current state, assessed external factors and stakeholder perspectives, and developed a target model and strategic goals for RTSU through 2030. The results of the four groups' work were presented at the plenary session.

Students from the Institute of Secondary Vocational Education at SPbPU won the 6th All-Russian Culinary and Service Olympiad "Legend" named after V.B. Belyaev, which took place in Perm. This is one of Russia's largest events for professional chefs, cooks, and connoisseurs of culinary art.

Over 200 participants competed for the title of best culinary specialists. These included juniors, waiters, and chefs from St. Petersburg, Perm, Kaliningrad, Chelyabinsk, Yaroslavl, Yekaterinburg, Penza, Rostov-on-Don, Kostroma, and other regions of Russia.

The SPbPU Institute of Food and Beverage was represented by a team of third- and fourth-year students. The competition was preceded by extensive preparation, including developing and preparing a signature two-course set menu (appetizer and main course) on the theme of "Modern Russian Cuisine of Our Region," as well as setting a themed table in keeping with the concept of haute cuisine and serving guests. Our students successfully completed the theoretical and practical sections in all competencies and represented the Polytechnic University with distinction, demonstrating high skill and team spirit.

Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University presented its educational programs at the international educational exhibition "Russian Education. Tashkent 2025." Forty-four leading Russian universities from 22 regions of the country participated.

The event, organized by the Rossotrudnichestvo representative office with the support of the Russian Embassy in Uzbekistan, became the largest platform for presenting Russian higher education in Central Asia. One hundred and twenty students from 41 universities and 17 Russian cities registered for the Additive Manufacturing and Reverse Engineering Cup. Eight participants, including two Polytechnic students, advanced to the qualifying round. The cup final took place at the TNF Industrial and Energy Forum.

The Polytechnic University team was represented by students Institute of Mechanical Engineering, Materials and Transport Ekaterina Beschatnova and Alexander Prokhorov, who performed brilliantly at the competition.

These competitions help young students learn new things, exchange knowledge, and work with modern equipment, noted Alexander Prokhorov, for whom participation in the competition was an important step in his professional development.

The participants manufactured a centrifugal pump impeller used in oil production and refineries. The main objective was to complete the entire component creation process. The students scanned the submitted impeller sample, created a digital model, and 3D-printed a plastic impeller based on it. The resulting products underwent bench testing. The jury assessed the components for strength, precision, and compliance with specifications.

At the competition, we witnessed the full cycle of creating a complex pump component—from 3D scanning to manufacturing and testing. Each participant performed a variety of operations, including digital model development and 3D printing. The final result was determined by the precision of all stages of the work. The young people demonstrated excellent performance in solving the assigned tasks and demonstrated their engineering potential. I wish them continued professional development in this field," commented Ivan Kuzin, Deputy General Director of RN-BashNIPIneft.

The Polytechnic students successfully completed the task, presenting a complete solution to the jury. They also tested their product and demonstrated their in-depth knowledge in an engineering quiz. Working with a modern Russian scanner, they gained unique experience in the field of domestic development.

First place went to third-year student of the Institute of Mathematics and Information Technology Ekaterina Beschatnova, who received 250,000 rubles for her victory.

September 19th was a truly historic day at the Institute of Mechanical Engineering, Materials, and Transport (IMMT) at SPbPU.
