The sixteenth season of the FabPRO course has launched at the Polytech Tower. It's a program created by students for students who want to immerse themselves in modern technologies and immediately apply their knowledge in practice. This year, the project is being implemented with the support of the Polytech Tower Youth Trajectory Center and the System Engineering student design bureau. For the first time, the FabLab Polytech student maker association has officially assumed supervision of the course.

Interest in the season was record-breaking: over 200 people attended the selection interviews. The grand opening of the FabPRO course became one of the most anticipated events of the semester. The soft glow of lanterns and live music created a warm, creative atmosphere. In his welcoming address, CMT Director Andrey Dolgirev noted the program's practical focus and openness to proactive students.

Guests at the evening met the team from the Youth Policy Department and the Tower, the FabLab governing board, and student teachers who had risen from beginners to mentors.

"I've been attending FabPRO since the very beginning of my studies. I'm very pleased that the courses at the Tower attract more and more interested students every year. This is the best motivation for the budding community and student teachers," commented Victoria Saikinova, a third-year student at IMMiT and head of the FabLab Polytech event-making department.

The 16th season features 11 tracks. Basic tracks, such as "From CAD to 3D Printing," have been retained, while new ones have been added, including "Fundamentals of Industrial Robotics" in collaboration with RCP.SYSTEMS. Over the course of the semester, participants will immerse themselves in the fundamentals of makercraft, technological patriotism, and technical creativity, mastering rapid prototyping and digital manufacturing under the guidance of experienced mentors and with the expert support of the Center for Technical Cooperation and FabLab Polytech.

I'm already in my second year. The competition is getting tougher with each semester. I feel like we'll soon have to build a hangar next to the Hydrotower, otherwise we won't be able to fit in there with our ideas and developments," shared Andrey Khribtenko, a second-year student at the Institute of Economics and Technology, in the FabPRO program "From CAD to Laser CNC Machine."

Every semester, the Polytech Tower hosts FabPRO practical courses, and this season naturally continues this tradition. The opening marked a strong start to a period filled with opportunities for learning, creativity, and team project work.

Polytechnic University participated in the Engineering Education Day in Omsk.

The Avangard Technological Lyceum in Omsk hosted the "Engineering Education Day" festival, bringing together leading national and regional universities, industrial enterprises, and organizations developing engineering and digital technologies. Among the participants was Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University. It also comes with a virtual simulator, enabling training even without access to a physical model.

The "Musical Break" project launched last academic year and has captured the hearts of all Polytechnic students. Over the years, it has become an important part of the university's cultural life. Polytechnic University's Digital Transformation: A Conference on Directum's Role in a Modern University

The Polytechnic University hosted an industry conference, "The Importance of Directum Electronic Document Management System in the Polytechnic University Information Infrastructure." The 27th All-Russian Seminar with international participation on jet, separated, and unsteady flows of liquids, gases, and plasma was held in St. Petersburg at the D. F. Ustinov Belarusian State Technical University "VOENMEKH."

The seminar was attended by Nikolai Ivanov, Director of the Institute of Physics and Mechanics; Nikolai Bykov, Professor of the Physics Department; Evgeny Smirnov, Professor of the Higher School of Applied Mathematics and Computational Physics; and Mikhail Strelets, Head of the Computational Hydroaeroacoustics and Turbulence Laboratory. Creative and technical universities from Russia discussed the synergy of art and technology at the Polytechnic University.

For three days, the Technopolis Polytech Research Building celebrated high art—music, ballet, and theater—as it hosted a networking project-analytical session, "Creative Universities in Technological Leadership: Significance and Role in Achieving Strategic Goals for the State and Industry."

Teams from creative and technical universities discussed with experts from the Russian Ministry of Education and Science, the Ministry of Culture, and the Social Center how to combine art, engineering, and technology so that the synergistic effect becomes a building block in the foundation of the country's strategic leadership.

The session was attended by representatives of five creative universities under the jurisdiction of the Russian Ministry of Culture, which received grants under the Priority-2030 program: the All-Russian State Institute of Cinematography named after S. A. Gerasimov (VGIK), the Gnessin Russian Academy of Music (RAM), the Boris Shchukin Theatre Institute at the Vakhtangov State Academic Theatre (B. Shchukin Theatre Institute), the Vaganova Academy of Russian Ballet (ARB), and the Russian Institute of Theatre Arts (GITIS). The Kazan State Institute of Culture (KazGIK), a candidate for participation in the program, was also represented.

On the first day of the session, Svetlana Ermakova, Director of the Department of Regional Policy, Education, and Project Management at the Russian Ministry of Culture, addressed the participants with a welcoming address. Callsign "Lawyer": SVO member meets with polytechnicians

A meeting with Oleg Burtov, a member of the assault unit and a member of the Special Military Forces (SVO) with the call sign "Lawyer," was held at the Higher School of Law and Forensic Science of Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University.

He emphasized that practice-oriented legal education in today's environment is an achievement of the Polytechnic University, a leading engineering university where the integration of humanities and technical disciplines is essential. Forensic legal expertise is a modern trend that should be built upon in the development of university education.

International collaboration in tribology: a delegation of professors from China visited the Polytechnic University

A delegation of nine tribology professors from China visited the BaltTribo-Polytechnic International Scientific and Educational Center at the Institute of Mechanical Engineering, Materials, and Transport at SPbPU. The visit was organized at the recommendation of Academicians Nikolai Myshkin (Belarus) and Irina Goryacheva (Russia) and at the initiative of Tsinghua University.

Polytechnic University students are among the best at the All-Russian Occupational Safety Week

The 10th All-Russian Occupational Safety and Health Week (VNOT) was held in Sirius. Russian Minister of Labor and Social Protection Anton Kotyakov and Andrey Betin, Director General of the presidential platform "Russia – Land of Opportunities," spoke at the opening ceremony.

The VNOT Youth Day is the premier event for young professionals, offering a short introduction to best practices in enhancing safety culture, productivity, and commitment to corporate goals. The theme of the 2025 Youth Day is "Sustainable and Safe Development: The Formula for the Future."

The event was attended by students from 40 leading universities in the country and more than 130 delegations of young company professionals.

Youth Day participants had the opportunity to attend more than 20 practical sessions, business and intellectual games, take part in the online occupational safety championship "Three Shifts," and participate in interactive events from leading PPE suppliers and manufacturers.

Several competitions were held as part of Youth Day: a case championship titled "Effective Tools for Developing Human Resource Potential and Safety Culture in Organizations," a digital solutions competition titled "Safety Technologies: Digital Transformation in Occupational Safety and Human Resources Management," and an innovation competition titled "Innovations in PPE: Engineering Solutions of the Future." Over 270 teams of university students and young professionals from Russian companies applied to participate in the competitions, 37 of which advanced to the in-person final round at VNOT-2025.

Polytechnic students presented three projects, which were highly praised by the jury.

The PolySafeBot project, designed to solve a wide range of occupational safety and health problems using Telegram, took first place in the "Safety Technologies: Digital Transformation in Occupational Safety and Human Resources" category. The project was created by a team from the ISI Higher School of Technosphere Safety: Alexander Gorshkov, Anastasia Dzhur, and Arina Puchkova, and supervised by graduate student Sergey Shavurov.

The project "Unified Analytical Data Platform: A System for Real-Time Monitoring of Operator and Environmental Conditions" also won a prize in the same category. The project's authors are a team from the IPMEIT Graduate School of Industrial Management: Polina Alyushkina, Daniil Plushenko, Polina Savchuk, and Anastasia Zagorodnyaya, supervised by Associate Professor Anna Timofeeva.

The project aims to prevent industrial accidents by integrating wearable sensors that monitor worker health and environmental parameters with predictive analytics on a single platform.

In the "Innovations in PPE: Engineering Solutions of the Future" category, a team of students from the Institute of Social Sciences' Higher School of Technosphere Safety took second place with their project "Hand Protection for the Far North," which provides adequate protection for a wide range of tasks in the Arctic and Far North. This project was presented by Artyom Mironov, Marina Petukhova, and Vadim Kurmyshov.
