From September 6 to 12, a summer school dedicated to the 105th anniversary of the birth of the legendary animator Leonid Shvartsman was held in Crimea at the Tavrida art cluster. The event brought together architects, production designers, graphic designers and representatives of youth councils from all over the country. Students and graduates of our university took an active part in the work of the Art School of Architecture.

The teams of participants had an ambitious task: not just to propose improvement options, but to conduct a deep conceptual rethinking of key territories – the art clusters “Tavrida”, “Mashuk”, “Senezh” and the village of Schastlivtsevo. The participants had to go beyond momentary solutions and develop truly bold, meaningful projects.

The participants from SPbGASU were Ekaterina Zlotnikova, Valeria Dmitrieva, Alena Donskova, Vyacheslav Sharunov, Aslan Osmanov, Ksenia Rudenko, Emilia Karaeva, Nikita Kasin and Maria Voronina.

As one of the participants, Alexandra Polyanskaya, noted, despite the initial request from the organizers for practical and targeted solutions, the creative process led to the creation of larger-scale and innovative projects.

"The initial request from the organizers was to focus on practical, targeted solutions – ones that could be implemented immediately or adapted for other regions. However, in the process of work, the ideas developed into more conceptual and futuristic formats. They went beyond the immediate implementation, but offered a truly fresh perspective," Alexandra shared.

Following the intensive work, all teams successfully presented their projects and received detailed feedback from experts. Participants agreed that the school format was more like a productive workshop, where innovative ideas for the future development of public spaces in Russia were born in an atmosphere of joint creativity.

In the implementation of educational programs in the areas of training "Operation of transport and technological machines and complexes" and "Technology of transport processes", the resources of the interdepartmental laboratory No. 3 of the Educational base of SPbGASU "Krasnoe Selo" are actively used. The laboratory is involved in organizing introductory practice for students, in carrying out work within the framework of project activities, in conducting advanced training classes, in pre-professional training in the programs of motor transport classes for students of secondary comprehensive schools.

The quality of the educational, methodological and material equipment of the interdepartmental laboratory No. 3 is highly appreciated by representatives of employers participating as experts in the procedures of independent assessment of qualifications within the framework of a pilot project to combine the state final certification (SFC) and independent assessment of qualifications (IAQ).

The continuous development of the university's educational and laboratory facilities is the most important tool in achieving the goals of the educational policy of the SPbGASU Development Program for 2023–2032.

A graduate of the Faculty of Architecture, a student of the Faculty of Continuing Education of SPbGASU Alexandra Polyanskaya reached the final of the National Open Championship of Creative Competencies for specialists in the field of creative industries Art Masters and visited Sakhalin among the finalists. The program of the stay included meetings with the Governor and Minister of Architecture and Urban Development of the Sakhalin Region and the defense of competition projects.

In the main age category, individual competitions were held in 20 competencies. Alexandra Polyanskaya participated in the "Architectural Environment Designer" category.

"The championship required us to design a public space. I proposed a design for a landmark (an architectural dominant) in the form of a frozen wave – a symbol of the meeting of the Sea of Japan and the Sea of Okhotsk. The object emphasizes the natural landscape, unites both competition territories, serves as a navigation point for tourists and is easily scalable for small architectural forms, while being designed for long-term use in the harsh climatic conditions of Sakhalin. And the form itself originates in one territory and continues in another, forming a kind of "Gateway to Two Seas," Alexandra explained.

The winners of the championship will be determined by the results of the audience vote. From September 10 to 20, you can vote for Alexandra Polyanskaya.

Third-year student of the Faculty of Architecture Sofia Andreeva is the author of the mural “Dawn of Hope,” which was created on the facade of the boarding school “Red Dawns” in the Petrodvortsov district.

"Sophia's sketch stood out, first of all, for the composition of the mural. It is made in the shape of a heart and thus does not repeat the rigid orthogonal grid of the pylons of the boarding school, as was the case in most of the works submitted to the competition. The winner carefully studied the history of the school and each element displayed in the mural – ears of corn, a river, domestic animals, conifers, mountains, the sun and so on in the drawing are not accidental. These elements have a hidden meaning and show the history of the life of this unique place and building. The colors used in the mural attract the gaze of a person entering the school and at the same time organically fit into the environment around the building," noted Sergey Lutchenko.

Sofia Andreeva admits that murals as a type of monumental painting attract with their scale and, unlike the construction of buildings, fast and direct interaction with space. The decision to take part in the competition was made spontaneously, and inspiration came while working on the plot.

"The plot arose from the idea to show the unity and work of the children who studied here at different times, which is very important for a boarding school. The mural used the symbols of the school itself, and the main emphasis was born from the name "Red Dawns". I was a second-year student and had no experience in creating such a work. But I have been doing design for a long time, since it is indirectly related to my future profession, so it was easier. While working on this project, I learned to work with a certain color palette, which was new to me. Murals are far from just a student activity. This is an experience of creativity and communication, which complements the understanding of space and environment, and therefore is useful in the profession of an architect. I will use this experience in the future, perhaps combining architecture with contemporary art in public spaces," said Sofia.

On September 4, SPbGASU hosted a regional conference as part of the first stage of the All-Russian Housing and Utilities Forum "Urban Economy: Current Trends and Challenges". Its theme was the interaction of society and government bodies in the housing and utilities sector.

“In conditions where major changes are constantly taking place in the housing and utilities sector, it is very important not only to find new solutions for the government, but also to strengthen trust between the government and society in order to make our city even more comfortable and attractive for living and working,” noted Irina Sokolova, Chairperson of the Public Chamber of St. Petersburg.

The conference included a plenary session attended by Vice-Governor of St. Petersburg Evgeny Razumishkin, Chairman of the Commission on Urban Economy and Creation of a Comfortable Urban Environment of the Legislative Assembly of St. Petersburg Alexander Khodosok, and Chairman of the Housing Committee of St. Petersburg Denis Udod.

SPbGASU student wins All-Russian competition in landscape architecture for Ilya Mochalov scholarship

Fourth-year student of the Faculty of Architecture, future landscape architect Bogdan Lobanov began his next academic year with a significant professional success: he became the winner of the All-Russian competition for the scholarship of Ilya Mochalov, the founder of the architectural and landscape company "Ilya Mochalov and Partners". This company, together with the company TM "ALTRAIN" and the Moscow Association of Landscape Architects (ROO MOLA), established scholarships for final-year bachelor's students. "I submitted a project for the development of the territory in the cities of Murino and Bugry in the Leningrad Region to the competition. After studying many applied disciplines in the third year, solving design problems has become much easier. In addition, I am working on this topic as part of my final qualifying work," Bogdan said.

Ilya Mochalov noted that he was pleasantly surprised by the works of young architects, especially Bogdan's landscape study. "Bogdan Lobanov turned an abandoned field of 175 hectares into a huge park – a kind of green dystopia, reimagined as a future garden city. His other concept – a post-industrial park on the ruins of factories, where flowering herbs coexist with massive metal structures – is reminiscent of the best examples of the transformation of industrial areas in Germany. It is important that Bogdan thinks big: in his motivation letter, he said that in ten years he sees himself as a person who will influence the quality of the urban environment at the legislative level. This energy and desire to change people's lives for the better make his work especially valuable and inspiring," he believes.

Bogdan is gradually moving towards his large-scale goals and admits that his main task now is to finish this semester and prepare a “powerful diploma” by the summer. Then he plans to enroll in a master's program, most likely choosing “something at the intersection of landscape and urban planning.” The student is confident that everything will work out, since the Department of Landscape Architecture of SPbGASU is taught by both practicing architects and biologists, dendrologists, and specialists in urban landscaping. That is why the department trains specialists who will be well versed in natural and environmental processes and take them into account when designing an urban environment. Bogdan's words are confirmed by practice: students Alina Ziben and Aurika Andreeva became finalists in the competition and received the opportunity to do an internship at the company “Ilya Mochalov and Partners”.

"Last year, our students also won this competition, and this gave me confidence in my own abilities. The jury of the competition emphasized that our department of landscape architecture is the strongest in the country. This is very nice to hear, and I agree with this," noted Bogdan Lobanov.

The head of the educational program in landscape architecture, Nadezhda Kerimova, noted that a large volume of biological disciplines, such as botany, soil science, dendrology, and, at the same time, a practice-oriented approach allow us to train unique specialists who combine knowledge and skills in both architectural design and plant and environmental design.

SPbGASU has developed a new method for restoring objects after explosions

Some buildings and structures in our country are in a limited-operability and even emergency condition after an explosive impact, as well as due to their high physical wear. Professor of the Department of Construction Organization of SPbGASU Alexander Rudenko proposed a new comprehensive approach to their restoration, ensuring high efficiency, safety, information content, remote assessment of the results of work at all stages of production. We talk to him about the essence and novelty of the approach.

– What exactly do you research in your scientific work?

– The topic of my research is “Organization of repair and restoration works of buildings after explosive impact based on an integrated approach using laser scanning, neural network and 4D modeling”. It is carried out within the framework of the grant of SPbGASU 20-NPR-25. The work contains an analytical review of the fundamental theoretical provisions of the physical processes of explosive impact on barriers. The existing approaches to predicting the degree of damage to buildings with the clarification of the mathematical calculation model are studied. The factors influencing the duration and quality of work on the restoration and repair of construction projects, as well as the possible nature of damage and categories of the technical condition of buildings after explosive impact are studied. An organizational and technological mechanism for the restoration and repair of construction projects is proposed.

The relevance and scientific and practical significance of the study are determined by the fact that a significant number of buildings in the Bryansk, Belgorod, Kursk, Rostov, Volgograd, Saratov regions and in new regions of Russia have been damaged by external explosive impact. In addition, capital construction projects on the balance sheet have a high degree of physical depreciation. Thus, according to Rosstat data for 2023, the depreciation of at least 257.4 million square meters of administrative, industrial and residential buildings exceeded 66 percent.

The organization of restoration and repair of buildings in these conditions requires a different – comprehensive approach that ensures high efficiency, information content, safety, remote access to the assessment of results at all stages of work and multi-channel access to results. This can be implemented on the basis of the stages of both the "planning-control" complex and a set of tools – laser scanning, neural network and 3D modeling, which to date has not been sufficiently studied and developed.

The research work identifies, groups and ranks the most significant factors affecting the duration and quality of restoration and repair. A regression analysis was performed and a mathematical model of the impact of factors on the efficiency of construction and installation works (C&I) was developed. Using neural network modeling tools, an algorithm for planning the production of C&I using the methods of critical works (CW), continuous use of resources (CURS) and continuous development of work fronts (CDW). Based on the above, proposals were developed for planning and monitoring the implementation of C&I using a set of laser scanning tools, neural network and 4D modeling.

– Is this precisely what makes your research novel?

– Based on the results of the research work, provisions of scientific and practical significance have been developed: firstly, the design and mathematical model for predictive assessment of the degree of damage and technical condition of a building has been adjusted taking into account the parameters of explosive impact; secondly, a regression and analytical model has been developed for taking into account the impact of significant factors on the duration and quality of restoration and repair; thirdly, an organizational and technological model for restoration and repair of construction projects has been developed based on the following tools: laser scanning, 4D and neural network modeling; fourthly, an aggregated "object-node" method for restoration and repair of construction projects has been developed based on optimal design and organizational and technological solutions with the calculation for each proposed solution of such basic spatial-technological and resource parameters as the number of work fronts and sections, flow capacity, production rate, labor intensity, labor costs, consumption of building materials, estimated cost of work; fifthly, a software and information complex for calendar planning and dynamic adjustment of repairs to construction projects has been developed in the integrated PyCharm environment of the Python programming language, which makes it possible to determine the duration of work using the methods of R&D, MKR, NOFR, as well as their organizational and technological reliability.

Thus, a comprehensive approach is proposed that allows interactive implementation of planning and control processes as a single system with the ability to dynamically adjust construction and monitoring work during their implementation. All of the above is the essence of the novelty of the study.

– In what main directions can the expected results of your research be used?

– In science, the obtained dependencies allow predicting the consequences of explosive impact and possible categories of technical condition of buildings depending on the expected power and type of shock-explosive impact on the building. The proposed aggregated approach, information and organizational-technological models of restoration and repair will allow modeling all production parameters and the nature of their dependencies. In real construction, the application of the research results will significantly increase the efficiency of planning and monitoring of construction and installation works using the methods of R&D, MKR, NOFR taking into account the risks during their implementation. In the educational process, the obtained results are appropriate to use in the study of disciplines considering the technical inspection of capital construction projects, technical operation of buildings and structures, organization, planning and management in the process of repair and restoration works.

On the Day of Solidarity in the Fight against Terrorism, SPbGASU students met with retired Federal Security Service Colonel Sergei Gaiduk. The event was organized by the Youth Policy Department of our university.

Sergei Gaiduk has dedicated 35 years to serving his country, 17 of which were in counter-terrorism units. He currently heads the comprehensive security department at the Saint Petersburg State University of Industrial Technology and Design and manages the coordination center for issues of developing an active civic position among young people, preventing interethnic and interfaith conflicts, countering the ideology of terrorism, and preventing extremism.

The speaker reminded the students that the Day of Solidarity in the Fight against Terrorism was established in memory of the events in Beslan in 2004, when 334 people died as a result of the school seizure, including 186 children. Sergei Vladimirovich cited statistics: in 2024, 1,191 terrorist attacks were registered, 4,170 people were injured, 1,370 died. In 2025, 172 terrorist attacks were prevented.

The audience learned details about the most high-profile terrorist attacks in Russia, watched a video about the heroes who gave their lives for the children of Beslan, and had the opportunity to ask questions.

"I really liked the lecture. It was obvious that the presenter had a deep knowledge of the topic. It is necessary to talk about such events," said Anastasia Germanova, a first-year student at the Automobile and Road Engineering Faculty.

"I was interested in this topic myself, watched documentaries. I believe that history teaches us and helps us not to repeat mistakes in the future," shared Ekaterina Zabelina, a first-year student at the Faculty of Architecture.

The Saint Petersburg State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering has summed up the final results of the 2025 admissions campaign. The university has not only recruited another class, but also confirmed its status as one of the key centers of attraction for future engineers, designers and architects of the North-West.

This year, the university opened its doors to 4,708 talented applicants. This figure speaks of the trust of applicants and their parents in the quality of education at SPbGASU.

The competition for budget places was especially intense, as always. 1930 people were able to successfully pass the competitive selection and become budget students. These are the most motivated and strong applicants, which guarantees a high level of future graduation.

Full-time education traditionally remains the most popular. 2,765 people are enrolled in it, and almost every second of them (1,237 students) will study at the expense of state funds.

The part-time and correspondence forms showed stable demand, bringing together 896 students. This format is ideal for those who combine education with work in their field, which is especially valuable in the construction and design industries.

The university is growing not only in breadth but also in depth, actively training highly qualified specialists and scientific personnel.

The Master's program accepted 955 people, and the vast majority (796 people) chose full-time education. It is important that 80 percent of full-time Master's students (637 people) will study on a budget, which indicates the priority of research training for the state.

The postgraduate program has been expanded by 92 new researchers. More than half of them (56 people) will work on their dissertations at the expense of budgetary funds.

The 2025 admission campaign has become another confident step forward for SPbGASU. The university not only maintains, but also increases its educational scale, offering high-quality programs for students with different educational trajectories – from a classic bachelor's degree to fundamental postgraduate studies.
