A meeting of the organizing committee for the Year of Unity of the Peoples of Russia was held at the National Center "Russia," chaired by First Deputy Chief of Staff of the Presidential Executive Office Sergei Kiriyenko and Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova.
Participants discussed the goals and objectives of the Year of Unity of the Peoples of Russia, as well as the preparation of a plan of events for 2026, the main criteria of which will be the common values and goals of the peoples of Russia.
Opening the organizing committee meeting, First Deputy Chief of Staff of the Presidential Executive Office Sergei Kiriyenko noted: "The Year of Unity of the Peoples of Russia is a response to enemy attempts to destabilize our country from within, to disrupt interethnic unity, friendship, and partnerships between traditional Russian faiths in the context of a special military operation, as well as the information war waged against our country. The President has repeatedly stated that today, on the front lines, heroes of various nationalities, speaking different languages, are responsible for one thing: victory, unity, and the integrity of our state. Representatives of more than 100 nationalities in the country have been awarded high military decorations during the Second Military Operation. Young men of various nationalities, representatives of all the peoples of Russia, proudly say today: 'I am a Russian soldier,' 'I am a Russian officer,' 'Russians never surrender.' We have much to be proud of and much to pass on to the younger generation, including our traditions and culture."
Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova spoke about this year's priorities.
"The unity of the peoples of Russia is the foundation of our country's development. Ahead of the Year of Unity, Russian President Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin approved a new State National Policy Strategy through 2036. The government is currently developing a plan to implement the strategy, which will be approved soon. We view the Year of Unity of the Peoples of Russia as a space for dialogue and support for initiatives. We pay special attention to young people, as the new generation is shaping the future of Russia. It is crucial that our traditional spiritual and moral values, as well as our historical and cultural heritage, are communicated through educational projects, volunteer programs, cultural exchanges, forums, media initiatives, and interaction with veterans and participants in special military operations. It is essential that this year be more than just a series of events and reports, but a personal experience of being part of these events. Therefore, it is important to speak about the unity of languages and meanings that are understandable to all citizens of our great country," the Deputy Prime Minister emphasized.
Igor Barinov, Head of the Federal Agency for Ethnic Affairs of Russia, noted the important role of the new strategy for state nationalities policy: "The Russian Federation has historically evolved as a multinational and multi-confessional state, with the Russian people playing a pivotal role. Mutual respect and a willingness to cooperate have always been the foundation of our development. Today, drawing on this historical experience, we are building a modern model for state nationalities policy. It is symbolic that the new Strategy for State Nationalities Policy of the Russian Federation through 2036 came into effect during the Year of Unity. The document articulates a unified, succinct, and well-defined goal: strengthening the unity of the people of the Russian Federation."
During the meeting, proposals from members of the organizing committee were heard, which will be taken into account as part of the Year of Unity of the Peoples of Russia.
The Year was officially launched by President Vladimir Putin during the educational marathon "Russia – a Family of Families," which was attended by representatives of over 190 nationalities across Russia, as well as foreign guests. The key themes were the shared history, culture, and traditional spiritual and moral values of the peoples of Russia, as well as examples of unity in service to the Fatherland. These are the areas where the state and society will focus their efforts in 2026.
