Representatives of the Civil Engineering Institute took part in the ArchIng workshop, which traditionally takes place within the framework of the Summer School project. This year, the event brought together more than 50 schoolchildren, students and young professionals from different cities and universities.

The Civil Engineering Institute was represented by Alexandra Zatsepina, senior lecturer at the Higher School of Industrial, Civil and Road Construction, who acted as the scientific director of the architectural and school tracks, as well as ISI graduates Ekaterina Zorina (director of the workshop) and Valeria Kozodaeva (curator of the architectural direction).

The workshop’s partners were the companies Metropolis and Petersburg through the Eyes of an Engineer, the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (JINR) and the Institute of Applied Urbanism.

The school track participants explored public spaces in Dubna: the Bolshoi Volzhsky Lighthouse, the Family Recreation Park, and the pier near the pedestal of the demolished monument to I. V. Stalin. The children visited the design site, took photographs, interviewed residents, and then created improvement projects and developed new architectural forms that embodied the memory and spirit of the place. For example, near the Bolshoi Volzhsky Lighthouse, the team proposed installing sculptures in memory of the political prisoners who built the lighthouse itself and the Moscow Canal.

On the architectural track, students and young professionals created art objects reflecting the unique identity of Krasnodar, Khabarovsk, Ulan-Ude, Vladivostok, Arkhangelsk and Chelyabinsk, which are currently experiencing population outflow. First, the participants collected associations related to each of the cities in zine albums. Then they rethought the images and embodied them in concepts of art objects that could become symbols of urban life and cultural heritage. For example, for Arkhangelsk, the guys reworked the image of a wooden bird of happiness, which is in every home, and for Vladivostok, they depicted colonies of Idiomarina Martina bacteria for cleaning the Sea of Japan.

Students and engineers of the design track created models of bridges. After a lecture on the development of span structures, which was given by the teacher, writer and head of the design bureau Anton Smirnov, the participants developed calculation schemes in software packages and implemented them using 3D printing. The projects included "Retro Bridge", "Celtic Grasshopper", "Whalebone" and "Arched Bridge". After testing, the winner was "Whalebone", which withstood a load of 29.8 kg with its own weight of only 1.2 kg.

Alexandra Zatsepina noted that the main success of the workshop is the formation of a community that opens up opportunities for joint projects and communication. This also contributed to strengthening cooperation between the university, companies and scientific organizations. In addition, the workshop showed how architects and engineers work and think, thanks to which many were able to decide on their choice of profession.

New Energy: SPbPU Students at a Conference on Technological Sovereignty

The Higher School of Industrial Management of IPMEiT became an active participant in an important industry event — the conference and exhibition "Technological Sovereignty and Import Substitution: New Energy Technologies". Three Polytechnic students passed the competitive selection and took part in the youth session "Behind the Scenes of the Energy Future: New Competencies for New Technologies".

Leading experts, government and business representatives gathered in St. Petersburg to address strategically important issues of ensuring Russia's technological sovereignty in the fuel and energy complex. The youth session became one of the key discussion platforms. It was devoted to current issues of training personnel for the energy sector of the future in the context of import substitution, digitalization and energy transition.

The session also raised issues that determine the development trajectory of the industry and education – what skills and level of specialization will be in demand, how AI will change the energy industry and professions in it, where it is most effective to train personnel for an energy breakthrough: in universities, in production or in startups.

Three students of the Higher School of Management and Management, Diana Yakimenko (4th year of the Business Administration program), Yana Mayevskaya (3rd year of the Oil and Gas Enterprise Management program), and Ilya Ushpik (1st year of the Master's program Oil and Gas Complex Management), accompanied by Associate Professor Anna Timofeeva, became active participants in the discussion.

Diana Yakimenko, addressing the Director of the Association for the Development of Renewable Energy, Alexey Zhikharev, touched upon the strategic topic of training personnel for renewable energy sources.

Session moderator Alexey Fadeyev noted the high level of student involvement: It is precisely such deep, problem-oriented questions from young people, like those voiced today by our Polytechnic students, that demonstrate a real understanding of the industry's challenges. These are not abstract discussions, but a request for specific solutions for technological sovereignty. Together for the City. Smolny and Polytechnic made Khlopina Street more comfortable

In the Kalininsky district of St. Petersburg, repair work on Khlopina Street has been completed. The Governor of St. Petersburg noted that over 108 thousand people live within the boundaries of the Akademicheskoe municipal district, where Khlopina Street runs. The importance of the work carried out is also due to the fact that by the end of 2025, a major overhaul of Gzhatskaya Street, which intersects with Khlopina, will be completed. The new circuit will ensure movement around the microdistrict without exiting onto key highways – Grazhdansky Prospekt and Prospekt Nepokorennykh.

When we talk about the comfort and safety of the urban environment, it is important not only to develop initiatives in theory, but also to achieve their practical implementation. The staff of the Research Laboratory "Laser and Additive Technologies" of the Institute of Metallurgy and Metallurgy of the St. Petersburg Polytechnic University completed a key stage of R&D within the framework of the delivery of a technological complex for laser powder cladding for the LLC "UK "KER-Holding".

Engineers from the Research Laboratory "LiAT" of the Institute of Metallurgy and Metallurgy of the St. Petersburg Polytechnic University completed the practical part of the project aimed at transferring laser surfacing technologies for the restoration of gas turbine engine components, and conducted acceptance tests of the previously delivered laser powder surfacing technological complex.

The work was carried out as part of the second stage of R & D. The main objective was to implement and test laser cladding modes on two types of parts and control samples, including components made of heat-resistant nickel superalloys. The focus of the project was the restoration of the SGT-300 first-stage nozzle blades and the first-stage working blades of the Taurus 60 gas turbine engine.

All stages were accompanied by a full technological cycle: coordination of sample geometry, fluorescent testing for cracks, development of technological instructions, design and manufacture of equipment.

Mikhail Kuznetsov, Head of the Research Laboratory "LiAT" of the SPbPU Institute of Metallurgy and Metallurgy, noted: The laboratory staff successfully carried out acceptance tests of the laser cladding complex and demonstrated the applicability of the developed technologies taking into account the specifics of real production conditions. At the next stage, it is planned to equip the complex with a sealed chamber.

Long-term cooperation with UK KER-Holding LLC is one of the examples of how scientific developments of the Scientific Research Laboratory LiAT of IMMiT SPbPU find real application in industry. Gazprom held the 10th International Scientific and Technical Conference "Gas Transportation Systems: Present and Future" (GTS-2025) for the first time in St. Petersburg at Gazprom VNIIGAZ. He covered the methods of transporting hydrogen, the prospects for the development of the global hydrogen fuel market, the problems and mechanisms of hydrogen impact on materials and their compatibility. The speaker presented various testing methods that are carried out at the Polytechnic University.

The tasks of the Polytechnic University were to create an experimental base that would allow us to study the effect of hydrogen on materials, as well as to develop methods for this and a knowledge base that could then serve as the basis for creating domestic regulatory documentation. Leading researcher of the Scientific and Technical Complex "New Technologies and Materials" Ivan Golubev took part in the work of the section "Design and Construction of GTS". He gave a report "Predictive Analytics of the Corrosion State of Field Pipelines for Transporting Untreated Gas".

Ivan Andreevich presented the research of the team of the Scientific and Technical Complex "New Technologies and Materials", which developed its own system of mathematical models for predicting the development of corrosion-erosion wear based on laboratory tests conducted at the Polytechnic University. The project was implemented as part of the R&D for PJSC Gazprom and includes the development of a software product that allows issuing recommendations on the selection of methods for ensuring the reliability of field pipelines. In the future, it is planned to develop the topic using both the experience gained during the implementation of the project and the accumulated over the years of research into the behavior of the material under specified operating conditions.

The combined use of mathematical modeling, experimental data and ML algorithms makes it possible to identify local areas with intense corrosion, predict the development of defects depending on changes in transportation modes, optimize the diagnostics and repair strategy, reducing operational risks, noted Ivan Golubev.

The program of the section "Operation, reconstruction and new technologies for GTS facilities" included reports by Professor of the Institute of Energy Alexander Drozdov "Experience of development and application of virtual simulators with PJSC Gazprom", engineers of the Higher School of Power Engineering Anton Pulin "Prospects for optimization of the gas transportation process due to complex digital twins of the gas transportation system and compressor stations" and Kirill Alisov "Application of modern additive technologies in the modernization of the internal cooling system of turbine blades".

New Horizons of Solutions: From Theory to Practice of Risk Management

The Polytechnic University solemnly awarded the winners and prize-winners of the All-Russian student case championship "Risk Management: New Horizons for Solutions". The organizers are the Higher School of Industrial Management of the Institute of Industrial Management, Economics and Trade and the consulting company "Trust Technologies".

Joint-Stock Company "Trust Technologies" provides audit and consulting services to corporate clients in various sectors of the economy. According to the RAEX rating agency, in 2025 the company entered the top five largest Russian participants in the audit and consulting services market.

The case championship was attended by 56 students from St. Petersburg, Moscow, Yekaterinburg, Voronezh and Tambov. As part of 15 teams, the students solved cases dedicated to risk management issues related to an unstable external environment, technological risks, digitalization and sustainable development. The participants presented projects combining digital technologies, risk management methods and models, as well as forecasting tools in an uncertain environment.

"The ability to manage risks in modern conditions is a critically important competency for any business. The level of the presented student projects, their depth of development and practical orientation are pleasing. The first place winner was the PonITech SPbPU team: Diana Yakimenko, Maria Belova, Maria Platonova and Vitaly Trofimov.

The second place was taken by the Ratio team from the Peoples' Friendship University of Russia named after Patrice Lumumba: Daria Dreval, Larisa Ordina, Elizaveta Kostyaeva and Veronika Vatrukhina.

The third place went to the “Risk Hunters” – Valentina Fedorova, Anastasia Rusakova, Arina Katrina, Egor Bogdanov and Liana Pogosyan from SPbSUT.

Interuniversity Dialogue: Polytechnic University Develops Cooperation with the University Community of Southern Russia
