On March 16, Deputy Speaker of the State Duma Pyotr Tolstoy addressed residents of the South-Eastern Administrative District at the State University of Management.

After the start of the special military operation, it was important to support the president's choice, the country's choice as a sovereign power, ready to fight for its freedom and independence. And I want to thank everyone who has been supporting those on the front lines and their families living in our district for several years now. We must remember these people and their heroism. During the meeting, representatives from various districts and individual residents discussed the issues addressed with the deputy's direct involvement and shared their vision for the district's future development.

On March 27, the State University of Management will host the All-Russian scientific and practical conference "Security of the Russian Federation: Challenges and Threats to the State's Strategic National Priorities."

Leading Russian scientists, representatives of the defense industry, security specialists, academic staff from educational institutions, and practitioners representing these organizations are invited to participate. Students enrolled in undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate programs for training research and academic staff may participate only under the academic supervision of academic staff.

The conference will include the following sections:

Legal regulation of national security in the Russian Federation. Issues of Russia's economic security. Ensuring Russia's technological independence and information security in defense and security. Environmental safety and rational use of natural resources in Russia. Protecting traditional Russian spiritual and moral values, culture, and the historical memory of Russian citizens. Threats to Russia's security today as seen by young scientists.

The conference will be held in a mixed format, participation is free.

No more than two papers per participant will be accepted for publication. A single paper must have no more than two authors. Conference papers will be published in a collection and submitted to the Russian Science Citation Index (RSCI).

On April 16, the State University of Management, in collaboration with the KNORUS publishing group, will host the 5th All-Russian Scientific and Practical Conference with International Participation, "Library Marketing 360°." The event will be held in a hybrid format at the State University of Management's Scientific Library.

On March 11, the State University of Management hosted an interactive lecture from LG Electronics.

Over 100 first-year students from the State University of Management's Institute of Marketing attended a creative meeting titled "Optimism and Inspiration as the Key to Successful Communications" with Tatyana Shakhnes, the company's senior PR/ESG director in Russia.

The central theme of the lecture was public relations and the role of professionalism in building communications between a brand and society. Particular attention was paid to how modern companies can not only communicate their products and technologies but also support and initiate social projects, setting a positive agenda.

The expert emphasized that in the era of the attention economy, sincerity, emotional engagement, and meaningful content are becoming key tools for effective and long-term dialogue with society.

In her speech, the lecturer also presented a new book, "25 Years of Communications," which draws together 25 years of Baltic Weekend's best cases. The publication includes one of the most significant industry projects promoting blood donation—LG's social initiative, aimed at developing a culture of this noble volunteer movement.

Using examples of the company's communications initiatives, the students were shown how a combination of creativity, a relevant agenda, and collaboration with opinion leaders from various fields helps generate lasting audience interest. During the session, the participants divided into teams and discussed the similarities between advertising and public relations, and what aspects are unique to each industry.

At the end of the meeting, Tatyana Shakhnes invited students to participate in a creative assignment: try their hand at being public relations specialists and develop their own communications projects.

As a reminder, LG Electronics' first lecture at the State University of Management took place in 2022, the year the company's educational marathon kicked off. To date, more than 300 events have been held as part of this initiative.

On March 13, 1888, one of the greatest educators of the 20th century, Anton Makarenko, was born.

Since childhood, he was a sickly child, he loved books most of all, and had little contact with his family.

In 1904, he graduated from a four-grade school in Kremenchuk, and in 1905, he completed a one-year pedagogical course, after which he worked for several years as a teacher in various institutions, and in parallel, in 1917, he graduated with honors from the Poltava Teachers' Institute.

Makarenko and the street children

As a result of World War I, the Revolution, and the Civil War, a huge number of street children appeared in the USSR: according to various estimates, between 4.5 and 7 million. Special colonies were established everywhere to educate and resocialize these juvenile delinquents, many of which evolved into communes.

Since 1920, Anton Makarenko directed a labor colony for street children and juvenile delinquents in the village of Kovalivka near Poltava. He named it after the writer Maxim Gorky, with whom he corresponded. In 1928, the colony was visited by the writer himself, who later called Makarenko a "great teacher."

The teacher's approach truly bore fruit: most of the children who ended up in the colony earned an honest living and never returned to criminal activity.

He shared his experience in raising difficult teenagers in his "Pedagogical Poem," which was named one of the ten most significant books on education of the 20th century and translated into dozens of languages. Anton Makarenko himself was recognized by UNESCO as one of the greatest educators of the 20th century.

Makarenko's educational system

Anton Makarenko was the first in world pedagogy to place the collective as a living system with a complex internal structure, traditions, and prospects at the center of the educational process.

A key element of the collective was the system of self-government. The colonists were divided into squads of 10-12 people, each squad electing a leader. The commanders formed a council that decided the most important issues. This system worked because it was based on the principle of responsibility. Every colonist was both a leader and a subordinate. One day you were a squad leader, the next, a rank-and-file soldier. This is how the understanding was born: power is not a privilege, but a service.

One of Makarenko's key discoveries is the principle of "parallel pedagogical action." Instead of influencing an individual student, the teacher influences the group, and the group influences the individual.

A second integral part of their upbringing was shared labor. The colony was located outside the city and was almost entirely self-sufficient. The teenagers themselves plowed the land, planted and harvested crops, carried out repairs and construction, and landscaped the grounds. However, there was no focus on labor alone. Makarenko believed that the integration of academic, work, social, athletic, and even aesthetic activities was crucial to their upbringing.

Moreover, Anton Makarenko was one of the first to understand the educational value of traditions. A whole set of customs developed in his colonies: ceremonial assemblies, the first sheaf festival, special dress codes, rituals for welcoming newcomers and seeing off graduates.

Traditions created an emotional memory for the collective, bonded generations of colonists, and fostered a sense of belonging to a special community. When a former street child donned a colonist uniform, they acquired a new identity—they ceased to be "nobodies" and became part of the collective.

Makarenko's pedagogical legacy continues to influence the Russian education system and student management. Today, many educational institutions build their work on the principles of collectivism, self-governance, and the development of the personal qualities of each student.

On March 12, 2026, Dmitry Rogozin, member of the Federation Council Committee on Defense and Security, Senator of the Russian Federation, and head of the Bars-Sarmat Special Purpose Center (volunteer, unmanned systems), visited the State University of Management.

The guest met with Vladimir Stroyev, Rector of the State University of Management, and Vice-Rectors Dmitry Bryukhanov, Maria Karelina, and Pavel Pavlovsky to discuss potential areas of cooperation and joint projects.

"We regularly visit new territories. In 2025, we delivered humanitarian aid three times, met with the leadership of local universities, and held events with the VSKS. Our scientists assist individual combat units with technical documentation, new developments, and so on. We assist several universities with their education, offering distance learning courses at some, and we also collaborate in the scientific field. Now is the time when we need to help our people, wherever they are," Vladimir Stroyev emphasized.

"The university's commitment to helping SVO participants both during and after their service is deeply respectful. I see common ground between the Bars-Sarmat Center for Specialized Research and the State University of Management in the development of unmanned technologies and robotics, the implementation of digital solutions for monitoring infrastructure and territories, and continuing education and employment for SVO participants," noted Dmitry Rogozin.

The parties agreed to create a working group to develop specific joint projects.

The senator then addressed the students of the State University of Management, discussing his work experience, his involvement in the SVO, and the unique volunteer unit he currently leads, "Bars-Sarmat," which focuses on remote warfare—the use of air, land, sea, and river drones, electronic warfare systems, and optical-electronic reconnaissance.

"We are at the forefront of scientific and technological development and specialize in combat testing of new technological developments. About 20% of our personnel are women. Although I don't think it's entirely right to have women in war, they were highly motivated, and we gave them the opportunity to prove themselves and take revenge on the enemy. They have become unique fighters, of whom we are proud," Dmitry Rogozin concluded his speech to the students.

Following this, the students were shown a film about service in modern unmanned forces—two episodes about the Bars-Sarmat Center for Special Operations, produced by the Az'efilm film company. The guest, accompanied by representatives of the GUU rector's office, went on a campus tour, which included visits to the media center, the RUMTS, the Engineering Project Management Center, the RosGeoTech Unmanned Aircraft Systems Laboratory, the Digital Technologies in Mechanical Engineering Laboratory, and the Moscow branch of the VSKS. The member of the Federation Council Committee on Defense and Security was particularly interested in the engineering developments of GUU scientists, which he praised and invited them to return the visit to the Bars-Sarmat Center.
