The International School of Quantum Technologies ISQT was held in Moscow, bringing together 30 of the best students from all over Russia. Among the participants were Ksenia Kozlenko and Ekaterina Kozlova, first-year master's students Physics Department of NSUThey passed a competitive selection and presented poster reports, presenting their own research in the field of quantum physics.

— The selection was based on the CV, motivation letter, and recommendation letter. The scientific supervisor told me about the school. I applied and was included in the list of participants. I was very worried, but it turned out I was in vain. The atmosphere was warm and truly student-like. The poster session was not a formal defense before the committee — you could freely communicate, share experiences, ask questions, and listen to others. This was the first conference where I really wanted to stay and talk to everyone, — says Ksenia Kozlenko.

The topic of her speech was the development of a quantum computer on neutral atoms. This architecture is currently being actively developed in the USA, but remains technically complex.

— My task is to model logical operations in the context of quantum computing and find out whether it is possible to simplify the system without losing accuracy. After school, I understood more clearly in what direction to develop, and even found answers to some questions about work. And I also met guys who are truly inspiring — everyone was passionate about their topic and sincerely wanted to share knowledge. This impressed me the most, — Ksenia explains.

Ekaterina Kozlova presented a study on the Hanle effect in the ground state of alkali metal atoms and its application in quantum magnetometry.

— Based on this effect, it is possible to develop miniature and very sensitive magnetometers. They can be used in medicine (for example, for magnetoencephalography), in geophysics, in navigation, for creating magnetic maps, in space and fundamental science. That is, this is not just “theory for the sake of theory”, but a completely practical direction, and I am glad that I was able to present it at such a level, — explains Ekaterina.

One of the most memorable moments for her was a visit to the RCC laboratory, where they work with SQUIDs – superconducting quantum interference sensors.

— These sensors are the main competitors of optically pumped magnetometers, which we make in our lab. It was useful to compare approaches and equipment. We even held a SQUID in our hands and saw how it works — this gave me even more understanding of my topic, — Ekaterina shares.

The students call the poster presentation format particularly valuable.

“It’s like a regular report, only in a live format – communication takes place right next to the poster, you can immediately discuss the nuances, argue, get feedback, and you can also go and see what others are doing and get inspired,” says Ekaterina.

Now the girls continue to work on their research and are preparing to present new results at the upcoming conference – "Nevskaya Photonics".

In August 2025, the II International Forum of Russia-Africa Cooperation "Education. Business. Culture – 2025" will be held as part of the XII International Forum "Technoprom-2025". Let us recall that the first forum "Russia-Africa" was held last year on the initiative of NSU and the Center for Public Diplomacy. One of the results was the creation of a Consortium of Russian Universities for the development of cooperation with African countries.

This year, the Consortium members will analyze the current interaction of Russian universities with African countries, discuss the challenges and obstacles that hinder mutually beneficial cooperation, identify key areas and formulate a roadmap (work plan) for the Consortium for the next year. The roadmap will be based on a systemic approach that ensures the consolidation of efforts by Russian universities and the unification of actions at all levels – from government agencies to the universities themselves. The implementation of the proposed measures will improve the quality of education and improve the culture of mutual understanding between the regions. The implementation of these initiatives will strengthen Russia's position on the African continent and will become the basis for the further development of bilateral relations.

The Forum also plans to discuss joint work in the areas of school and secondary specialized education. The Center for Public Diplomacy and NSU plan to hold talks with the Minister of Secondary Education, Vocational and Technical Training of Burkina Faso Boubacar Sawadogo on the possibilities of cooperation and to develop an algorithm for joint actions.

The following are promising educational projects in African countries:

— The “Russian Teacher Abroad” program, within the framework of which students from the pilot international class of the African school will study the Russian language.

— A program for training foreign students in working specialties under joint educational programs of African and Novosibirsk colleges. Those who successfully complete the training will be able to continue their studies at Novosibirsk universities. The pilot project includes colleges implementing training in agricultural, technical and natural science areas.

— The African continent is a priority region for the export of Russian education. Since 2024, NSU has been actively developing cooperation with African countries. In this context, agreements were signed with Thomas Sankara University (Burkina Faso) and Abdou Moumouni University (Niger). From December 2024 to July 2025, a preparatory department in the medical and biological profile operated jointly with the Russian House in Niger, in which 24 people studied. From March to the end of July 2025, online courses in the Russian language were opened at Thomas Sankara University, which were completed by 50 bachelors and masters. The next stage will be the organization of preparatory courses in the medical and biological profile, after which students will be able to continue their studies at NSU. The University also plans to organize scientific internships for young scientists and graduate students from Burkina Faso for 3-6 months, said Evgeny Sagaydak, Head of the Education Export Department at NSU.

Another interesting project is the preliminary agreement reached between NSU and the University of Saint Dominic (USDAO) from Burkina Faso on joint training of medical personnel for this West African state. The cooperation agreement between the universities may be signed this summer.

NSU Advanced Engineering School Launches Three Advanced Training Programs as Part of the National Project “New Materials and Chemistry”

The NSU Advanced Engineering School has launched three unique advanced training programs within the framework of the national project "New Materials and Chemistry". These courses are aimed at training specialists capable of solving critical import substitution problems in high-tech industries. The training is free thanks to a state subsidy.

The national project "New Materials and Chemistry" sets an ambitious goal: to achieve technological independence of Russia in the production of chemical products, advanced materials and rare earth metals by 2030. Basic Course on Modeling Flow Dynamics in Ansys Fluent CFD Package 

The ANSYS software suite is an advanced suite of computer-aided engineering modeling tools that uses the finite element method.

The main objective of this course is to introduce students to the basic principles of CFD (computational fluid dynamics) modeling. Three main stages can be distinguished: preprocessing — preparation of a geometric model, creation of a finite element mesh, setting the physical properties of the medium, initial and boundary conditions; calculation stage, postprocessing — visualization and interpretation of the obtained calculation results, assessment of the adequacy of the selected model. The course covers all stages of hydrodynamics modeling in the Ansys environment. As a result, each participant in the program will be able to solve several problems from start to finish using the Ansys Fluent package.

Computer simulation of reactive flows in the Ansys Fluent software package

Ansys Fluent can be used to simulate a wide range of chemical processes.

There are several approaches to mathematical modeling of chemical processes. This course examines an approach that simultaneously calculates both flow hydrodynamics and chemical transformations. This is possible using the Ansys Fluent package, a modern and versatile software suite that allows you to take into account the flow of the medium, the thermal processes that occur during this, as well as chemical transformations during reactions and combustion. Students will not only learn about the theoretical foundations of mathematical models, but will also solve several problems – from creating a geometric model and constructing a grid to performing calculations and processing the results.

Course on modeling heat transfer processes in the CFD package Ansys Fluent

All types of heat transfer, such as conduction, convection and radiation, can be calculated in the Ansys Fluent software package.

There are three types of heat exchange: conduction, convection and radiation. The course offers basic mathematical models for all of the above processes. Using the example of such problems as mixing liquids of different temperatures, heating a thick-walled closed metal cell with air, and propagation of a rectilinear radiation beam, students will learn about choosing physical models in the Ansys Fluent PC, setting the physical properties of the medium for such problems, and will gain experience in solving them and processing the results. The course will be an excellent starting point for modeling heat exchange problems in hydrodynamics.

Live training: SPbPU students completed practical training at Setl Group construction sites

Second-year students of the Institute of Civil Engineering of SPbPU took part in a series of excursions to the construction sites of Setl Group. During their introductory practice, the students also visited the company's office.

The students of the Polytechnic University were accompanied by Svetlana Belyaeva, senior lecturer of the Civil Engineering Institute, and Alexandra Zatsepina, assistant of the ISI. Setl Group was represented by Daria Fioletova, manager of personnel training and development.

In the residential complex "Bionika Zapovednaya" the tour was conducted by the leading construction engineer Ivan Golubev and the head of the construction project Vladimir Farykin. At the company's office, construction project manager Dmitry Shmodin gave a lecture on the specifics of management, site organization, interaction between engineers at all stages of work, and the use of modern technologies.

During excursions to residential complexes and the office, ISI students received detailed safety instructions, saw presentations of architectural concepts of the facilities, learned about the company's areas of activity, job responsibilities of engineers and strict requirements for the quality of work. In addition, the students studied the sequence of construction processes – from monolithic work to finishing and landscaping, got acquainted with engineering systems, visited the technical underground and underground parking. They discussed modern digital solutions for construction management with experts, including the ICONA platform, and also asked questions to engineers.

Based on the results of the internship, the students compiled reports with photos and videos. This will be useful to them in the next semester when designing a multi-apartment residential building. The guys were interested in the possibility of completing an internship at the company and further employment.

“I received additional motivation in my desire to become a professional who not only knows how to design, but is also able to control and understand the entire construction process on site,” shared Mikhail Abramov.

"Such excursions help students combine knowledge of different disciplines in a single real picture of construction. This is how they learn to think, reason, ask questions and see more," noted ISI teacher Alexandra Zatsepina.

"It's nice to see the students' sincere desire to learn a lot. This gives rise to the desire to invest more: to hold useful events to help the new generation grow professionally. NSU hosted the first economic quest “Knowledge — Money”

On July 10, Novosibirsk State University hosted a fascinating economic quest, “Knowledge — Money,” in which 65 high school students from different schools in Novosibirsk took part. It was not just an intellectual challenge, but also a real immersion into the world of economics, where knowledge, logic, and teamwork become the key to success.

The quest was organized by the public organization "Laboratory of Economics and Business" with the support of Faculty of Economics, NSU, the “First” movement and the low-rise eco-quarter “Spectrum”.

—The Laboratory of Economics and Business was created three years ago. Our mission is to develop schoolchildren's interest in economics and to form a culture of systems thinking. The first event we held last year was a course of lectures and interactive seminars "Basics of Economics and Business for Schoolchildren". Instead of the planned 20 people, more than 60 took part in it. We realized that schoolchildren have a huge interest in economics and new educational formats. This is how the idea of a quest was born, which we decided to hold in the summer, — said Dmitry Markov, a lecturer in the Department of Management of the Faculty of Economics of NSU, head of the laboratory.

The participants united into 14 teams, each of which went through 13 stations in four thematic "economic laboratories" in three hours. At each station, the teams passed tests on knowledge, logic and ingenuity, solved problems of varying difficulty levels and earned points. The maximum for each station was 100 points, and at the end the strongest team was determined.

1. Systems Analysis Laboratory

The children were given tasks that clearly demonstrated the importance of a systematic approach to solving problems. A crossword, a fillword, and a Japanese puzzle called "Bridges" — all of this forced the participants to think logically, find patterns and relationships. And most importantly, it helped them better understand how economic processes are structured in reality.

2. Laboratory of Economic Intuition

Here, participants encountered economic puzzles, asset turnover tasks, and cases that required filling in missing terms. These tasks helped participants not only remember the terms, but also understand how they work in the context of business and finance.

3. Business Analytics Lab

It turned out to be the most difficult — and, perhaps, the most educational. The kids had to understand the financial statements of the Magnit retail chain, pass tests on formal logic, and solve numerical problems that are used when hiring in large financial companies. This gave the schoolchildren the opportunity to “try on” the role of a business analyst and understand how interesting and in-demand this profession is.

4. Bipolar Laboratory

This lab turned out to be the most creative and memorable. Participants had to not only think, but also act:

Assemble a product according to the technical specifications from a construction set. Assemble a puzzle from the logos of famous brands and compare them with the companies' missions. Restore the system by analogy with the game "Tetris". Assemble slides with company analytics to create a complete picture.

These tasks developed not only logic and economic thinking, but also teamwork skills, attentiveness and creativity.

Each laboratory had its own curators, who were students from the Faculty of Economics of NSU.

Artem Bezrukov commanded the business analytics laboratory.

— Three stations: calculation tasks, a logic storm and a hellish quiz on financial reporting. I thought that my stations would be the hardest for the participants, but the guys turned out to be great! We were especially impressed with the financial reporting of Magnit. We compared profitability, revenue, turnover — like analysts with real cases! Honestly, I thought that out of 100 points our maximum would be 50, but I was pleasantly surprised by other results!) I admit, the logic test turned out to be the most tricky. Only two teams were able to solve it 100 out of 100! Apparently, numbers are closer to them than puzzles.) Even my fifth-graders learned to calculate profitability! — said Artem.

Kira Kurmasheva was responsible for the bipolar laboratory.

—We had a great time and enjoyed it as much as the quest participants. Our lab had the most stations — four. All the tasks in my lab were interactive, the kids were asked to assemble a flower from a construction set, restore economic slides, assemble puzzles with logos of famous companies, and solve a riddle. All the tasks were quite easy, but very interesting. Our lab had the highest average score for the quest.

I am very glad that our event attracted so many children from all over the region. During the game, I received a lot of positive feedback about the quest. I hope that I will participate in many more similar projects from the laboratory of economics and business! – Kira shared.

As a result, all teams completed all stations, showed good results and acquired valuable skills. The winner of the quest was the team "EkoMi", which scored the highest number of points.

All participants were awarded raffle tickets and delicious pizza, which was a pleasant end to a busy but exciting day.

— Although I was never particularly interested in economics, the quest even made me think about enrolling in the economics department! An interesting format that helps to apply knowledge from economics in practice. During the quest, you learn to work together and make decisions quickly. It was especially interesting to solve economic puzzles and solve different problems. At the end, there was an announcement of the winners and pizza!!

 

Vladimir Rimmer, 9th grade, Lyceum No. 130:

— My mother signed me up for the quest, for which I am very grateful to her. I got a lot of new emotions, made new acquaintances. I really liked the idea itself, the organization and, of course, the surprise in the form of pizza after the end. If I were to rate the quest on a ten-point scale, it would definitely be 10 out of 10!

 

Daria Rakova, 9th grade, OC "Gornostay":

— Overall, the event was interesting and useful. The tasks were varied, you had to think and act. I especially liked two things: bridges and a crossword puzzle. These logic tasks are just super, and everything was exciting with the team. Overall, I spent my time usefully, learned something new and laughed.

 

The Laboratory of Economics and Business is already drawing up a plan for future events, where schoolchildren not only gain new knowledge, but also come into contact with university life.

— The guys spent the whole day at NSU, got to know the university, its teachers and students better. We are sure that many of them will choose NSU as the place of their admission and further education, — Dmitry Markov emphasized.

The 50th Anniversary Summer School for Young Programmers is being held at NSU

The Summer School for Young Programmers was organized in 1976 in Novosibirsk. For 50 years, the school has been gathering talented children interested in programming. This year, 66 schoolchildren were selected to work in teams on a project for two weeks. Scientific, production and educational workshops in 11 areas were organized for the children. Each workshop employs 4 to 8 schoolchildren. Classes are held in NSU classrooms under the guidance of experienced mentors, both doctors and candidates of science, employees of IT companies, and graduate students and students of the university.

— Lisp is my old love. Thanks to this programming language I ended up in Novosibirsk, which makes me very happy. And every year it is the greatest pleasure for me to be here. The school has a wonderful team and wonderful guys, it is very pleasant to work with them. And I like that they already consider me one of their own here, although I came from far away.

Once I was in Yerevan, put on a T-shirt with the school logo and went for a walk. Suddenly a young guy and girl came up to me and said: "Are you from LSHU? We remember you!" It was very nice, now I keep this T-shirt as a relic. LSHU is a long-standing tradition, this year it is 50 years old, and I joined relatively recently, and for me it is a great honor to be part of this famous school, – said Boris Faifel.

For Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Professor of NSU Alexander Guryevich Marchuk, this is an anniversary school; he has been a scientific supervisor for young programmers for 25 years.

— We have some truly wonderful kids coming to us. In two weeks, we give them not only a large amount of knowledge, but also the main thing is that they want to learn something new themselves. The goal of our school is to attract more and more young talents. This year, we have had kids we have known and loved for a long time, and new ones who have interest in their eyes. We hope that next year there will be even more of them, — Alexander Marchuk shared his impressions.

Summer school participant Vera Lichman began studying programming in the third grade, now she has finished the seventh grade and entered the Physics and Mathematics School at NSU. In elementary school, the girl discovered the Scratch programming language, later Python and other languages. At the Physics and Mathematics School, the girl wants to study mathematics in depth in order to later enter NSU and become a research mathematician.

— This is my fourth summer school. I think that it will be, as always, very interesting and useful. What I especially like here is the atmosphere of mutual understanding, helping each other. The masters do not get angry if they have to repeat something a second, third, or even tenth time. This year I got into a workshop where we will learn to model various processes using Petri nets and moving chips between areas. I hope that I will gain a lot of useful knowledge, — Vera added.

The children will have overview and educational lectures, excursions, preparation of creative numbers, master classes and competitions on the problems of modern informatics and other scientific areas, because one of the goals of the LSHU is to develop erudition in schoolchildren. The final stage of the work is a scientific and practical conference and demonstration of completed works in workshops.

— I would like to note that we always choose workshop areas that are promising in scientific terms and interesting to our masters. Students in diverse workshops create a lot of worthy projects. For example, last year a boy who had just entered the fifth grade made the game "Sokoban" in the Logo programming language. Also last year there was a workshop on creating a model based on TRIZ, in the framework of another the guys wrote a compiler and a virtual machine. Back in 2001, when robotics for children in Russia was not yet known, our guys connected a LEGO robot to a computer through a device and "brought it to life". In 2004, a team of schoolchildren made a client-server development – a tic-tac-toe game on phones via satellite communication. We can talk for a long time about the developments of our guys, every year there are different and interesting projects, — said the head teacher-coordinator of the LSHUP, senior lecturer of the Programming Department, associate professor of the Department of Discrete Mathematics and Computer Science Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics of NSU Tatiana Tikhonova.

New opportunities for NSU applicants: educational program for top IT specialists "Applied Artificial Intelligence"

Starting in the 2025/2026 academic year, Novosibirsk State University will launch training aimed at preparing highly qualified specialists in the field of applied artificial intelligence for the innovative economy. Students of the new program will write their own neural networks, master and develop new methods and technologies in the field of applied programming, as well as collect, process and analyze their own data sets. In the future, graduates will create products based on deep machine learning and apply the acquired knowledge in various fields of activity – from the banking sector and various high-tech companies to personalized medicine. The training of top specialists is carried out on the initiative of the Ministry of Digital Development of the Russian Federation with the participation of the Analytical Center under the Government of the Russian Federation.

These programs are based on modern employer requirements for highly qualified specialists, determined with the participation of dozens of Russian companies – leaders in the IT sector and leading universities.

The training will be focused primarily on practical results. From the first years, students will be involved in solving product problems of IT business, will be able to study cases and experience of the industry, participate in the work of project teams, master classes, undergo practical training and mandatory internship in leading IT companies and research institutes.

Companies invest in the development and implementation of programs with their own resources. More than 30% of all classroom classes with students will be conducted by invited experts from the industry, leading developers, engineers and researchers. Business representatives will act as mentors for students, become conductors of advanced knowledge, trends in the development of domestic IT technologies, help students get acquainted with corporate culture and real requirements for employees.

Training in close cooperation with industry partners and IT companies, including the anchor partner, one of the leaders of the Russian IT market — the multidisciplinary IT holding T1, as well as the Russian developer of operating systems "Alt", will not only prepare graduates for a successful professional start, but also give them the opportunity to apply for leading positions in large industry and technology companies. Since 2025, within the framework of the federal projects "Artificial Intelligence" and "Personnel for Digital Transformation" of the national project "Data Economy and Digital Transformation of the State", the Ministry of Digital Development of the Russian Federation, with the participation of the Analytical Center under the Government of the Russian Federation, has been implementing two projects to train students in educational programs for top specialists in the field of information technology and artificial intelligence.

The projects provide training for graduates with advanced competencies in the field of information technology and artificial intelligence: developers of advanced IT solutions, AI models, algorithms, analysts and data researchers. School-conference on medicinal chemistry in Ufa brought together young scientists from all over Russia

From June 23 to 27, 2025, the III All-Russian School-Conference on Medicinal Chemistry for Young Scientists was held at the Interuniversity Student Campus of the Eurasian Scientific and Educational Center in Ufa. This year, the event was held for the first time with international participation and brought together more than 100 participants from different regions of Russia and the Republic of Belarus.

The event was organized by the Ufa Institute of Chemistry of the Ufa Federal Research Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Bashkir State Medical University of the Russian Ministry of Health, the N.N. Vorozhtsov Research Institute of Organic Chemistry of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Institute of Medicine and Medical Technologies (IMMT) NSU and the Scientific Council of the Russian Academy of Sciences on Medicinal Chemistry.

The event is held every two years. The first school on medicinal chemistry was organized in 2021 at the N.N. Vorozhtsov Institute of Organic Chemistry of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The main objective of the event was to familiarize young Russian scientists, postgraduates and students with modern methods and approaches used in medicinal chemistry. The second school on medicinal chemistry was held in 2023 at St. Petersburg State University as part of the All-Russian Conference with International Participation "Ideas and Legacy of A.E. Favorsky in Organic Chemistry" with the support of the St. Petersburg Branch of the D.I. Mendeleyev Russian Chemical Society. This year, the hosts of the youth school were researchers from Ufa.

Medicinal chemistry is an interdisciplinary field that covers the development and synthesis of new medicinal compounds, the study of their metabolism and action at the molecular level. These were the topics that the intensive five-day program of the school was devoted to. Participants were treated to plenary lectures, flash reports, master classes on chromatography, molecular modeling, critical thinking and vaccinology, as well as excursions and the Sabantuy of Young Scientists. As one of the organizers, Egor Mustaev, noted, the flash report format was a key innovation this year:

— This format gave each participant the opportunity not only to present their work, but also to gain important experience in public speaking. In addition to the reports, the school became a platform for live communication and exchange of experience between young researchers and leading scientists from Russia and Belarus, — said Egor.

Several experts from NSU presented reports at the school-conference. Thus, the following delivered plenary lectures:

— Head of the Department of Medical Chemistry of the Institute of Medical and Medical Technologies of NSU, Doctor of Chemical Sciences, Professor, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences Nariman Faridovich Salakhutdinov; topic of the speech: “Natural Compounds in the Creation of New Drugs in Medicine”;

— Associate Professor of the Department of Medical Chemistry, Doctor of Chemical Sciences Olga Ivanovna Yarovaya; lecture topic: “Bird Flu: An RNA Virus with Pandemic Ambitions.”

The keynote report on the topic “HPLC-MS methods in the development and preclinical studies of new drugs” was presented by Artem Dmitrievich Rogachev, PhD, senior researcher at the Laboratory of Molecular Pathology at the Institute of Medical and Technical Technologies of NSU.

Among the participants of the school was Serafim Tishchenko, a young researcher from Novosibirsk, representing the Laboratory of Functional Analysis of Viruses (LFAV) of the Research Institute of Organic Chemistry:

— I attended lectures and master classes, especially the practical course on molecular docking. Everything was very interesting and useful. I presented work on the development of antiviral drugs against orthopoxviruses and the RS virus. Now I am preparing to enter graduate school at NSU, — Seraphim shared his plans.

The school's distinctive feature remains its emblem – a laboratory mouse, which this year received an updated look and became the star of photo zones and souvenirs.

The School and Conference on Medicinal Chemistry continues to strengthen its position as a key platform for young scientists involved in the development of new drugs.
