Fontanka.ru conducted a study of the results of the admission campaign to St. Petersburg universities under the quota for participants in the special military operation and their children. An analysis of data from enrollment orders and competition lists showed that the first place in terms of the number of those enrolled is occupied by Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University.

In 2025, 252 people were admitted to SPbPU under a separate quota, which is 1.7 times more than last year. 104 of them were admitted without entrance examinations, which indicates the significant support provided by the university to this category of applicants.

Polytechnic University ranks first in St. Petersburg and fifth in Russia in terms of the number of applicants enrolled in this category. But what is important here is not the numbers, but the development of an individual educational trajectory and support for such students throughout the entire period of study, noted Vice-Rector for Educational Activities Lyudmila Pankova.

Such a high demand for educational programs of our university speaks, first of all, about the level of trust of applicants and their families in the faculty of the Polytechnic University. After all, they have an important task – to ensure a high level of training taking into account the current background of the applicant, to analyze progress, to provide opportunities for development, that is, to provide a comprehensive individual approach, which is quite a serious challenge on such a scale. SPbPU Rector Andrey Rudskoy took part in a press conference at TASS dedicated to summing up the results of the 2025 admissions campaign. The press conference was also attended by MGIMO Rector Anatoly Torkunov, Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology Rector Dmitry Livanov, Bauman Moscow State Technical University Rector Mikhail Gordin, Plekhanov Russian University of Economics Acting Rector Alexey Nikulin, ITMO National Research University Rector Vladimir Vasiliev, and Yeltsin Ural Federal University Acting Rector Ilya Obabkov.

Andrey Rudskoy joined the press conference at TASS online. He said that this year, Polytechnic University received 6,595 budget places — the most in the Northwestern Federal District. More than 145 thousand applications were submitted for the budget for bachelor's and specialist's degrees. As in the previous year, applicants sent 99% of documents through the State Services portal, including for master's and postgraduate studies.

The most popular areas of study this year were nuclear power engineering and thermal physics – 59 applications per place, thermal power engineering and thermal engineering – 44 applications, automation of technological processes and production – 36 applications. Demand for IT specialties remains at the level of 60 applications. In general, the competition for the budget was 33 applications per place.

252 students were enrolled under a separate quota for participants and children of participants of the SVO – 1.7 times more than last year. In this indicator, Polytechnic University ranks fifth among Russian universities.

The number of winners and prize winners of Olympiads among Polytechnic University applicants has increased by one and a half times this year. Probably, the fact that the university revised its support measures for talented students played a role in this.

In his speech, Andrey Rudskoy touched upon the specifics of targeted admission: Unfortunately, as in the previous year, the customers of targeted training posted their proposals on the portal “Work in Russia”, but did not participate in the approval of candidates, or even, perhaps, meetings with them. This affected the number of students accepted. By the way, most of them responded to the proposals of those industrial partners who worked with applicants – Rosatom and the Petersburg Tractor Plant.

The average USE score for the general competition has increased this year and is 84.2. The passing score for all areas of training has exceeded 200. Andrey Rudskoy noted an increase in the passing score for engineering areas such as technosphere safety, technical physics, metallurgy, mechatronics and robotics.

A major role was played by the “Petrovskaya Wave” system, introduced for the first time in the Polytechnic’s admissions campaign, which guarantees admission to applicants who have achieved the passing score set by the admissions committee.

Speaking about the admission campaign for foreign students, the rector of SPbPU specified that more than 2,000 applications for training in the main programs and another 650 for the preparatory faculty were received. Of these, 430 applications from foreign citizens were selected under the quota of the Government of the Russian Federation, the rest will study under a contract. Among the foreign applicants, there are 240 winners of the Open Doors Olympiad. It is planned to enroll about 1,600 foreign students from 70 countries in the first year.

"The work of the Polytechnic representative office in Shanghai and our two joint institutes with Xi'an Technological University and Jiangsu Normal University help attract applicants from China," says Andrey Rudskoy. "And cooperation with Slavic universities in Belarus, Armenia, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and coordination of the work of the Russian-African Network University consortium allow us to cover these countries as well. Therefore, the Polytechnic expects to maintain the share of foreign students at 18%, which is equal to five thousand people."

Admission to fee-based education continues until August 15, with 47,000 applications already received (13,000 more than a year ago). At the same time, as Andrey Rudskoy said, the Polytechnic University has reduced admission to fee-based education in the humanities and closed distance learning, meaning that the increase is due to engineering areas of training.

Admission to the Master's program also continues until August 11; 25 thousand applications have now been submitted by 5 thousand applicants.

And on September 1, the Polytechnic expects an increase of 12,000 students.

Record number of Olympiad winners and 852 new students: priority stage of enrollment completed at Polytechnic University

The priority stage of enrollment for bachelor's and specialist's programs has passed at the Saint Petersburg Polytechnic University. 852 first-year students can already proudly call themselves polytechnics and find themselves in the lists of those enrolled using a unique code or personal account ID. The first main heroes of the 2025 admission campaign were the winners and prize winners of the All-Russian School Olympiad and Olympiads from the list of the Russian Council of School Olympiads, as well as applicants admitted under quotas. And it was worth it — it gives confidence when applying. Even guys with high scores were not competitors for me. I am looking forward to an intense study, a sought-after profession, and a cool student community. NSU biology students will take part in the final of the international SynBio Challenge competition in China for the first time

The final of the international SynBio Challenge competition will be held in Shenzhen (Guangdong Province, China) on August 6. The competition is organized by the Shenzhen University of High Technology. A total of 1,800 students registered to participate in the competition, of which about 1,000 participants from six countries of the world – China, Russia, Japan, Singapore, Thailand and Malaysia – made it to the final. Our country is represented at these competitions by only two teams – from the Biological Faculty of Moscow State University and Faculty of Natural Sciences (FNS) of NSURussian teams are taking part in the competition for the first time.

The GeneMeow team included six students of the NSU Natural Sciences Department who completed their 3rd year in Biology: Valeria Romanova, Ekaterina Bolotova, Nail Bikeev, Nikita Ivanov, Ulyana Borovikova and Dmitry Kurbatsky. GeneMeow was formed from two strong teams that had previously participated in the Biotournament, won prizes in its regional stage and received a second-degree diploma at the final in 2024. Participation in the Biotournament allowed them to gain experience in solving interdisciplinary problems in biology, publicly defending ideas to experts and project work. The students joined forces to jointly solve problems at the intersection of biology and engineering.

All the guys from the NSU team regularly participate in student Olympiads and are engaged in scientific activities at the institutes of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, combining their studies with research and educational activities.

The selection round of the competition was held in absentia in April-May; participants were offered a choice of several problems, one of which the students had to solve.

— In the SynBio Challenge, we solved the problem of developing a DNA sequence no longer than 140 bp, providing high expression of GFP (green fluorescent protein) in E. coli. It seemed familiar and interesting to us, since we had already studied molecular biology at the university, have laboratory experience and are well acquainted with the methods of genetic engineering. This gave us confidence in our abilities and the desire to apply our knowledge in practice, — said the captain of the GeneMeow team, Valeria Romanova.

— We conducted a bioinformatics analysis of regulatory elements, studied relevant literature and modern approaches to increasing gene expression. Based on this, we developed an optimized design that includes strong promoter (a region of a gene that triggers the synthesis of mRNA and then protein) and post-transcriptional (regulatory) elements and is aimed at efficient expression of GFP. Such developments are relevant for medicine, biotechnology, agriculture and fundamental research, — said GeneMeow team member Ulyana Borovikova.

The final will be held in person and will be a festival, where each team will present their solutions to the problems at the selection stage. In addition, the organizers of the competition synthesized the DNA sequences proposed by the participants, inserted them into plasmids with a fluorescent protein gene, which is used to check the DNA sequence, and during the festival they will visualize the synthesized sequences, compare which team has them glowing more strongly. The brightness of the glow will be one of the criteria for assessing the work of each team.

— NSU has historically developed leading scientific schools in synthetic biology and bioinformatics. This year, the Institute of Medicine and Medical Technologies is opening a Master's degree program in Industrial Pharmacy, where students will work on solving specific problems of industrial partners. At one time, the iGEM-Siberia team became the first team from outside Moscow to take part in the world's largest competition of genetically engineered machines, iGEM-2021. This year, our Chinese colleagues invited us to take part in SynBio Challenge, an international competition of comparable scale. I hope that the team will return with a victory; the guys have been working on the project for a long time and will present a poster presentation at the festival. The development of biomedical technologies is a global trend. The Polytechnic University summed up the results of the competition “Best Teacher in the Eyes of Students-2025”

At the initiative of the student community, the Polytechnic University traditionally held the “Best Teacher through the Eyes of Students” competition from June 5 to July 12.

The competition has been held at the university since 2021 and this year it celebrated a small anniversary – five years. As usual, students nominate teachers for participation in the competition who, from their point of view, best meet such approved criteria as "Personal interest in the subject", "Openness to everything new", "Pedagogical excellence", "Culture of interaction with students", "Commitment to the traditions of the Polytechnic University", etc. However, this year, only graduating students who received their diplomas this year could vote for teachers. For each of the nine criteria of the competitive selection, the students had to nominate only one teacher.

"Our university is changing, and the rules for the "Best Teacher in the Eyes of Students" competition are changing along with it," explained SPbPU Vice-Rector for Educational Activities Lyudmila Pankova. "In this anniversary year for the competition, it was important for us to find out which teachers remain in the hearts of graduates leaving the university on their way to a new, big life."

Perhaps the most important change in the rules of the competition was that student voting was transferred to the Telegram bot "Digital Pelican" of the Trade Union of Students of SPbPU.

"We think it is important that our students have taken responsibility not only for developing the evaluation criteria for the competition, but also for its implementation," noted Elena Zima, Director of the Education Quality Center. "This significant step in improving the competition procedure will increase the university students' confidence in the competition results and their involvement, which will undoubtedly contribute to improving the overall culture of education quality at the Polytechnic."

494 Polytechnic graduates took part in the voting. The winners and prize winners were 10 teachers from seven institutes: GI, IBSiB, IKNK, IPMEiT, IFiM, IFKSiT, IE. All of them will receive cash prizes. The results of the competition are also taken into account in the rating of the faculty. The award ceremony for teachers will traditionally take place on Knowledge Day, September 1.

International Mathematics, Cultural Exchange, and Inspiration for a Dissertation: NSU MMF Students Attend Combinatorics School in China

Students and young scientists Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics, Novosibirsk State University took part in the International Summer School on Combinatorics, which was held at China Three Gorges University (CTGU) from June 26 to July 13. The delegation included Maxim Emelyanov, Timofey Vasiliev, Wang Yifei, Ayana Ondar and Maxim Levashov. The school program focused on modern aspects of discrete mathematics: participants studied in depth the theory of symmetric functions, Kazhdan-Lustig polynomials, Newton polyhedra and Lorentz polynomials. Maxim Yemelyanov presented his master's thesis at the school on the topic "Consequences of using augmentation options in image recognition by convolutional neural networks." Despite the fact that the topic lies at the intersection of mathematics and AI, it aroused keen interest among teachers and students:

— I decided to take part in the school to get new ideas for my dissertation and exchange experiences with world experts in discrete mathematics. In addition, it was a unique chance to present my research to an international audience and receive an objective assessment from leading lecturers. My master's dissertation interested my colleagues and teachers at CTGU, which allowed me to receive valuable recommendations for further development of the topic and refinement of the methodology, — the student notes.

According to Maxim Yemelyanov, the lectures on symmetric functions were especially memorable – they demonstrated how a universal mathematical apparatus can be applied to a wide variety of problems and provide a new vision of discrete structures.

But the summer school is not only about science. The participants had a rich cultural program, including a trip to the world's largest hydroelectric power station, the Three Gorges, master classes in Chinese crafts, and excursions to museums and picturesque places in the province:

— The scale of the CTGU campus, its infrastructure, the combination of modern architecture with natural landscapes and the careful organization of all processes made a huge impression. "1C Academy": effective teaching of 1C technologies in universities

In July 2025, a large educational program was completed — a course for advanced training of teachers "1C Academy: Effective Teaching of 1C Technologies in Universities". It is implemented by Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University together with a technology partner — 1C Company. The main goal of the educational project "1C Academy" is to improve the quality and level of teaching modern technologies of corporate information systems. It is also aimed at training in the professional use of 1C products in the context of rapidly developing requirements of the digital economy based on the concept of a ready-made educational product.

In 2025, 1C Academy united more than 100 higher education institutions from 68 cities in five countries and 192 teachers seeking to develop their professional competencies in teaching modern information technologies based on advanced solutions from 1C. The scope of training participants has expanded significantly and, importantly, teachers from universities in the CIS countries have joined the program — more than 30% of the program's students are foreign participants. Among them: 12 teachers from Uzbekistan, 8 from Kazakhstan, 43 representatives from Belarus and 1 participant from Armenia. Thus, 1C Academy has reached a new level of cooperation and integration of educational resources of Russia and partners in the CIS countries.

A ready-made educational product is an approach when a complete set of educational and methodological materials is prepared: video lectures, tests, practical cases, configured for performing practical tasks of the IT system. The materials are adapted for any form of conducting classes and are ready for replication. The materials themselves, without a teacher training system, are ineffective, so SPbPU has developed a professional development program where teachers study not just the capabilities of the product, but receive material that can immediately be integrated with the university's LMS and begin teaching disciplines related to 1C, – said one of the authors of the course, senior researcher of the International Academic Competence Center "Intellectual Enterprise Technologies" of the Advanced Engineering School "Digital Engineering" SPbPU Anton Ambrazhey.

During the training, the participants completed a four-month course covering various processes in the 1C: ERP CIS, development on the 1C: Enterprise platform, and a methodological block. The program was successfully completed by 117 people, which amounted to more than 60%. The most successful graduates were awarded prizes from 1C.

Many participants noted the excellent structure of the course, the clarity of presentation of the material, the quality of the educational and methodological materials.

Novosibirsk State University (NSU) together with IT holding T1 is implementing Bachelor's degree program "Applied Artificial Intelligence". This year, 150 students will be accepted. Graduates of the program will master one of the most popular areas in the modern labor market. Large-scale summer school "Cryptography and information security" ended in St. Petersburg

For more than two weeks, "Boiling Point – St. Petersburg. GUAP" was truly "boiling", despite the midsummer. In each of the halls, the participants of the summer school "Cryptography and Information Security" were working. The traditional event, organized by the Cryptographic Center (Novosibirsk), International Mathematical Center in Akademgorodok, this year the GUAP venue hosted the event. The organizers and partners of the summer school in 2025 were the St. Petersburg State University of Aerospace Instrumentation, Southern Federal University, Special Technology Center LLC, Practical Security Systems LLC, Infotex JSC, Enseucrypto-lab LLC and NeoQUEST. Vice-Rector for Educational Work and Youth Policy Larisa Nikolaeva and the GUAP team were responsible for the organizational issues of the large-scale event.

The students were able to learn everything about internships and future careers in companies such as OOO Special Technology Center, OOO Systems of Practical Security, AO Infotex, OOO Enseucrypto-lab and NeoQUEST. Representatives of these organizations personally talked to the students, answered all their questions and told them what steps they should take to take their first career steps in the field of information security.

The basis of the summer school was work on projects. Divided into teams, in which scientific research was carried out under the supervision of curators, the guys were preparing to present each of the projects at the final conference. The topics of the projects touched upon various issues of modern cryptography and information security: algorithms of symmetric and asymmetric cryptography, issues of constructing cryptographic protocols for solving authentication, identification, key transfer, and messaging problems. The topics of the projects were suitable for both beginners in the field of cryptography and information security, and for advanced students who had already acquired knowledge as part of their studies.

On July 21, the summer school's final conference took place, where the teams presented the results of their work. 23 research projects developed by the participants were combined by the organizers into a collection of papers. It can be found on the event website.

Daria Severukhina, Novosibirsk:

— Our project was dedicated to the topic of post-quantum cryptography. We were engaged in the analysis of the vulnerability of a cryptosystem based on the "lattice theory", namely, the study of side-channel attacks. Post-quantum cryptography is very relevant now, and the topic we were working on is one of the most promising in this area. I study at the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics and I study cryptography only in special courses that are held at our university. Therefore, this summer school is a great start to skills and knowledge in this area. In these two weeks, I learned so much information, met leading scientists in this area, I managed to work with them, which is very valuable. I am very glad that I got the opportunity to acquire this knowledge in practice.

Alina Skibina, Saint Petersburg:

— In our project on the topic of “Development of a prototype of a cryptographic hash function,” we developed a prototype of a hash function called “Gorynych.” We tried to create a hash function based on the Russian standard “Stribog,” inspired by the SURF function of Bernstein. This function has a simple design, high stability, and speed. These are the properties that modern hash functions should have. The team turned out to be friendly, well-coordinated, I enjoyed our interaction, I did not feel discomfort. There were many jokes, funny moments that diluted the intense work. I am very pleased with my participation in the summer school. This is not my first participation in such an event, so I was ready for intensive work. The most important skill is experience working in a team. And the lectures are very informative and interesting in that they touch on many areas of cryptography, and perhaps I will work in some of them in the future.

Anna Kozubova, Novorossiysk

— I finished the 9th grade and got to the summer school. Thanks to my participation, I decided on the direction that I would choose to study at GUAP — "Information Security". Many useful lectures were held for us, and although they were more focused on people who were already studying in this specialty, I was able to study this topic additionally and become interested in it. I want to thank my team, where friendly and working relationships were formed over these two weeks. It was precisely because we united that we were able to prepare such a wonderful project. But none of this would have happened if it were not for our mentor — a true master of his craft — Bezzateev Sergey Valentinovich. In a word, the summer school became an important event for me.

— Our project was dedicated to electronic signatures of documents. We considered post-quantum algorithms, which have a higher complexity and are designed so that with the next stage of computer technology development they will not be hackable. We also considered vulnerabilities that are better known at the moment. This is a very good experience to find out what will change in this area now. The scientific community, the experts who supported our projects are, first of all, our like-minded people and people who are interested in the development of this area. To communicate and work with such people almost on equal terms is a very good experience. A wonderful team, new knowledge, a beautiful city, and, despite the fatigue, there was strength for communication.

Artem Kolbeev, Sevastopol:

— This is my second time participating in the summer school "Cryptography and Information Security" and working with the same scientific supervisor — Oleg Sergeevich Zaikin. He guides the team in the right direction. We managed to choose a promising topic for study. I really liked the organization of the summer school — everything was organized competently, and we were given time not only for work, but also for excursions, recreation, and sports. The venue is suitable for comfortable work. We were given a number of very interesting lectures. And several ideas for further scientific developments arose.

The admissions campaign at Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University is in full swing, and its first stage is coming to an end. Applicants have only one day left to submit an application and finally decide on their future profession.

Also in 2025, a new grant system for talented applicants was introduced.
