The admission campaign is a small life, full of expectations, hopes and important decisions. For thousands of applicants, the summer of 2025 was marked by the choice of a future profession, and for the Polytechnic University – in an effort to make this process as comfortable and understandable as possible. And now all the decisions have been made, the enrollment orders have been signed. A new, already student life is ahead.

The vast majority of documents (99%) were submitted by applicants remotely through the State Services portal, which allowed students from all corners of Russia to become part of the large Polytechnic family without any hassle. Applicants to master's and postgraduate programs could also submit an application through the Unified Portal.

But the admissions committee was also happy to meet in person. A modern multifunctional space was organized in the reading room of the main academic building, where it was possible to submit documents with the help of employees, conclude an agreement and submit consent for enrollment. Nearby, there were institute stands, where teachers, employees and students spoke in detail about programs, internships and employment prospects. An innovation this year were tours of laboratories, allowing applicants and their parents to get acquainted with the university infrastructure.

In 2025, Polytechnic broke its own record, receiving almost 149,000 applications for budget and contract places. The average USE score of those admitted to the budget increased to 84.3 (versus 83.8 in 2024), and the passing score for all areas exceeded 200.

The growth of interest in classical engineering specialties is particularly noticeable, which confirms the demand for training personnel for the real sector of the economy.

At the same time, the passing score for many technical specialties is equal to popular IT areas: “Construction of unique buildings and structures” (266 points), “Mechatronics and robotics” (258 points), “Nuclear energy and thermal physics” (272 points).

Traditionally, the IT fields lead in the number of applications submitted: "Software Engineering" (4537), "Information Systems and Technologies" (3698), "Computer Science and Computer Engineering" (3506). Among the engineering specialties, the greatest interest was generated by: "Construction" (3760), "Electric Power Engineering and Electrical Engineering" (2597), "Construction of Unique Buildings and Structures" (2497).

The success of the admissions campaign is laid long before the summer. Motivated applicants with high scores come to the Polytechnic University largely due to the large-scale career guidance work that is carried out throughout the year.

The Polytechnic University actively supports the Olympiad movement, acting as an organizer and co-organizer of competitions for schoolchildren in a wide range of areas. Successful participation in Olympiads (including the All-Russian School Olympiad) from the list of the Russian Council of Olympiads gives applicants the right to enter without passing entrance examinations. In 2025, a new support system was introduced: applicants admitted without entrance examinations (BVI) and with high Unified State Exam scores will receive a grant of up to 120,000 rubles with the possibility of additional payments for excellent studies. This year, the Polytechnic University accepted 185 Olympiad participants – winners and prize winners of competitions, while the number of applicants with high Unified State Exam scores exceeded 400 people.

The Directorate of Pre-University Education and Talent Attraction carries out large-scale work: it organizes educational programs and specialized shifts in leading all-Russian children's centers and regional centers for gifted children. Schoolchildren from all over the country immerse themselves in the world of modern technologies, studying relevant areas – mechanical engineering, unmanned transport, IT and biotechnology – and trying themselves in the role of researchers.

With the beginning of the holidays, summer educational intensives traditionally open – the Summer School and the Engineering League, dedicated to key areas for the Polytechnic: energy, aircraft and rocket engineering, IT, data analysis and others.

An important part of career guidance work is campus tours: thousands of schoolchildren visit academic buildings and laboratories every year to get to know the life of the Polytechnic from the inside. University representatives also actively participate in exhibitions of educational institutions across the country – from the Far East to the south of Russia. These efforts bring results: 70% of those enrolled from various regions choose the Polytechnic every year.

The key innovation of this admissions campaign was the "Petrovskaya Wave" system. It guaranteed admission to all applicants who scored the required passing score, making the process more transparent and reducing anxiety for many applicants.

"2025 has become a time of significant changes for the Polytechnic Admissions Committee," noted Varvara Sotova, Director of the Center for Formation of the Contingent of Students. "We have managed to implement a number of carefully prepared innovations: the launch of the "Petrovskaya Wave," an increase in grants for Olympiad winners, and the holding of the admissions campaign in a single space – the reading room. This year, the admissions committee placed special emphasis on the portfolio competition, following which 551 people received a place at the university. Also enrolled were 14 winners of the "I am a professional" Olympiad and 2 winners of the All-Russian engineering competition.

Basalt SPO and NSU will jointly train specialists in the field of AI and Russian software

NSU chose Basalt SPO as one of its industrial partners. The company committed to supporting the university in implementing the Program of the Novosibirsk Academy of Artificial Intelligence (NAII) Center:

• participate in the development, examination and updating of top-level educational programs;

• implement extra-budgetary co-financing of events and work within the framework of the NAII program;

• promote advanced training of the NSU teaching staff;

The inclusion of NSU in the list of universities that have received the right to train personnel for new programs for the development of AI technologies is a logical result of the university's scientific activities. The NSU Graduates Congress was held at the university

Last weekend, the annual NSU Alumni Congress was held at Novosibirsk State University. Its program was opened by the general meeting of the NSU Union Alumni Association, which took place in the famous Maltsevskaya Auditorium. The participants summed up the results of the year, discussed plans for the future, and elected a new composition of the governing bodies.

Among the most significant results was the active participation of the Union in events dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the birth of the last president of the USSR Academy of Sciences Gury Marchuk and the outstanding historian, honorary professor of NSU Varlen Soskin. And also – the charity event "Thank you for teaching" (targeted congratulations to non-working teachers and employees of NSU), which has already become a traditional part of the association's work.

The new president of the NSU Union is Pavel Fedorov, managing partner of the Scientific Equipment Group of Companies and a 2008 graduate of the NSU Faculty of Economics.

— I have divided all the upcoming activities into three areas, which I plan to implement in the next two years. Firstly, to increase interest among graduates and increase their involvement in the work of the NSU Union. One of the forms of work of the Union with students is the Mentoring program, launched in 2021. By participating in this project, students get the opportunity to think about the future in advance, begin to adapt to the labor market and prepare for their further career path. And graduate mentors pass on their experience and secret knowledge of "adult" life, take an active part in the development of students, are inspired by new fresh ideas and get new employees to their team.

Over the past years, this program has accumulated useful experience, which mentors shared during a special round table that continued the Congress program. Its participants discussed how best to "recruit" mentors, whether it is necessary to involve those who live outside of Russia in this work, whether feedback channels are needed, etc.

The next round table within the framework of the Alumni Congress was devoted to the phenomenon of student clubs at NSU faculties, such as "The Office of the Divanov Brothers", "Quantum", "Maximin", etc. Its participants talked about why these clubs have been successfully operating for decades, how students receive additional competencies in them, which can subsequently radically change their entire life trajectory.

The Congress traditionally ended with a popular science part. Rector of NSU, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Mikhail Fedoruk spoke about what the university is today, briefly summed up the results of the admission campaign, drawing attention to the increase in the number of applications from applicants, the expansion of the geography of those admitted, and the growing popularity of engineering and IT areas. He also congratulated on the opening of a new building of flow auditoriums, which took place on August 29 with the participation of Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko. Students of the Faculty of Economics of NSU won the case championship from Alfa-Bank

From August 19 to 23, the Alfa-Bank case championship was held at Krasnaya Polyana in Sochi. The championship consisted of two stages: remote (case solution) and in-person (revision, defense). At the first stage, teams had to develop a new banking product focused on the needs of a youth audience, present a UX prototype and demonstrate the profitability of this idea for the bank. After that, the results of the selection stage were summed up: only 20 teams out of 724 made it to the final, which had to refine their solution: shoot a promo video, develop an MVP demo and, finally, present it to leading Alfa-Bank experts in Sochi.

— Our team is a team of the strongest students in the country. For example, we have already worked together with Alisa German and Daria Yudina from Bauman Moscow State Technical University. Each of us is a winner of a RUB 1 million prize for winning the largest all-Russian competition (Bolshaya Peremena, Tvoy Khod), for which we were included in the state information resource about people who have demonstrated outstanding abilities. We were joined by Olga Somova (NSU), the winner of the All-Russian legal case championship MGIMO Law Championship, who brilliantly worked out the regulatory risks of our fintech product, and Maria Kolobova from OSU, the winner of the International Festival of Sports Programming "Code of the World", who revived our ideas in the interface. The team's presentation was dedicated to presenting the concept of new banking for Generation Z. The girls analyzed the values of young people and came to the conclusion that zoomers value such things as development, status, and community. The team proposed moving away from the traditional approach, where a bank is perceived solely as a tool for transactions, and presented an emotional-behavioral platform that turns banking into a tool for personal growth. This approach is aimed at forming long-term loyalty and reducing customer churn through integration into the daily life and interests of the young audience. All this is the result of three weeks of intensive work: analyzing the values of Generation Z and the best practices of fintech and lifestyle brands, designing a viable business model with forecasts for monetization and key metrics; developing a product prototype, a promotion plan, and, finally, filming a promo video for its presentation.

— The final stage of the case championship can be divided into the final and the super final. In the final, 20 teams had to present a 2-minute pitch and show a promo video. An hour later, a list of 10 super finalist teams was announced, which had to present their solution to the experts again. In my opinion, the main task in the final was to cope with our emotions: excitement, fear and fatigue after a busy day of presentations. In the super final, we had to not only clearly and convincingly convey the key ideas of our product, but also answer difficult questions from the jury, demonstrating a deep understanding of the market and the needs of the youth audience, — added Olga Somov, a 4th-year student of the Jurisprudence program at the Faculty of Economics of NSU.

Olga and Alina's team made it to the super final (top 10 strongest teams in the country) and, based on its results, became the winner in the nomination "Best Promo Video", for which they were awarded the opportunity to undergo a priority internship at Alfa-Bank.

— Alfa Case Camp is a completely new level of championships. We didn’t just defend the solution, we literally lived it for several days: we discussed non-standard solutions for launching banking products, received personal consultations on pitching and our careers from Alfa Bank top managers. This program gave a unique opportunity not only to present our solution, but also to directly exchange experience with experts who are shaping the future of banking technologies today. Winning the “Best Promo Video” nomination and reaching the top 10 strongest teams in the country confirmed that we not only know how to think strategically, but also implement creative ideas efficiently, which is certainly nice. But the main prize is the people, knowledge and emotions that we took with us! — Alina shared her impressions.

— Participation in the Alpha Case Camp was not only a great opportunity for me to apply theoretical knowledge in practice, but also a unique experience of teamwork in a real business environment. In addition to professional growth, I received a lot of positive emotions from the inspiring atmosphere of the mountain resort, the rich educational program and informal communication with guys from different parts of Russia. Training of engineering personnel: Rector of SPbPU spoke at a meeting with Nikolai Patrushev

Rector of SPbPU Andrey Rudskoy took part in a meeting with heads of state authorities and organizations, which was chaired by Assistant to the President of Russia and Head of the Marine Collegium Nikolay Patrushev. The main focus of the discussion was on the role of the new national higher education system in improving the quality of engineering training. In his report on this topic, SPbPU Rector Andrey Rudskoy analyzed the key success factors of the domestic FEMA system and emphasized the need to preserve and develop its fundamental principles during the upcoming update.

The history of FUMO began in 1988, when the country began the transition from a planned economy to a market economy. Until that time, the content and methods of education in a specific specialty for all higher education institutions were determined by one of them, appointed by the ministry. But in the conditions of the emerging market economy, this approach ceased to be effective. In order to take into account the diversity of the economy and the requirements of employers and, at the same time, to maintain a single educational space, a system of federal educational and methodological associations was created, in which all universities in the country were represented. At the same time, basic universities ceased to be the only developers of educational programs and methods, turning into coordinators and organizers of educational processes. Thanks to this reform, it was possible to combine the traditions of scientific and methodological schools of basic universities with the intellectual capabilities and interests of all interested universities in Russia and employers without exception.

"Now, when the system is being restarted, there is a good opportunity to use the fundamental principles of FUMO activities that have proven their effectiveness, modernizing them in accordance with modern requirements," Andrey Rudskoy concluded. Russia launches joint educational programs with colleges in African countries

In the fall of 2025, the first project of joint educational programs between Russia and West African countries at the level of secondary vocational education will be launched. The priority areas of training are the agricultural sector, agriculture, construction industry, as well as natural sciences and technical specialties. Colleges and three universities of the Novosibirsk Region are participating in the pilot project: Novosibirsk State University, Novosibirsk State Technical University and Novosibirsk State Agrarian University, each of which oversees its own area. The project is coordinated by the Center for Public Diplomacy. Representatives of NSU and the Center for Public Diplomacy announced this today at a press conference in TASS as part of the international forum for technological development "Technoprom-2025".

The project includes several stages. In order to bring the educational programs of Russian and African colleges closer together, the first stage will involve retraining of college teachers. — We are starting to combine secondary vocational and higher education institutions within the framework of one project. We will start with retraining secondary education teachers in Burkina Faso, this is a key partner country for us, a pilot platform for testing new projects. The partners on the Russian side are colleges and universities of the Novosibirsk Region. In the future, we plan to replicate the successful experience in other regions of Russia, — commented Natalia Krasovskaya, Director of the Center for Public Diplomacy.

The next stage is planned to organize preparatory departments of Russian universities in educational institutions of secondary vocational education in African countries. Upon completion of their studies, college students, having already mastered the profession, will be able to choose one of two trajectories: to start working in their specialty in their country or to continue their education at a specialized university in Russia.

— The peculiarity of the project is that a joint Russian-African educational program of secondary vocational education is being created. In the future, its graduates will have the opportunity to enroll in a higher educational institution under an accelerated program and complete a bachelor's degree in three years instead of four. Thus, in six years of study — secondary vocational education plus a university — students receive a full bachelor's degree. For NSU, this is an additional tool for attracting foreign students, — said Evgeny Sagaydak, Head of the NSU Education Export Department.

NSU, together with the Center for Public Diplomacy, launches an international class program

Novosibirsk State University (NSU), together with the Center for Public Diplomacy, is launching a unique international-class program aimed at training schoolchildren in Burkina Faso. The pilot project will start on October 1, 2025, and includes intensive Russian language training, followed by two years of computer science and mathematics courses adapted to NSU requirements. Representatives of NSU and the Center for Public Diplomacy announced this today at a press conference at TASS as part of the international forum for technological development "Technoprom-2025".

The project in question is a unique experience for Russia, creating a specialized class in one of the lyceums of Burkina Faso. Students who complete the program will have the opportunity to enroll in specialized specialties at Novosibirsk State University.

— Over the past two years, we have been actively working in West African countries, creating and strengthening cooperation at the university level. Thus, last year an agreement was signed to create a Consortium of Russian Universities for cooperation with African countries. Now this project also covers school education, which allows us to prepare young people in advance for admission to Russian universities — three years before graduation. By creating a specialized international class, we are developing curricula adapted to the requirements of universities, which creates unique conditions for learning. This, in turn, will increase the number of students from African countries studying at Novosibirsk State University and other leading Russian universities, — commented Natalia Krasovskaya, Director of the Center for Public Diplomacy.

Schoolchildren with good knowledge of English will be allowed to participate in the program; it is planned to recruit 25-30 people. Computer science and mathematics programs will be developed by NSU teachers.

More than 600 representatives of the Leningrad Region education system gathered in Gatchina for a large-scale pedagogical council to sum up the results of the academic year and determine development vectors for the future. The event was attended by the Vice-Rector for Additional and Pre-University Education of SPbPU Dmitry Tikhonov and the Acting Director of the Center for Work with Educational Organizations Georgy Shkolnik.

The topic of the pedagogical council this year was "Education Development Strategy: Consolidation of Federal and Regional Decisions". The forum turned into a key platform for dialogue between the authorities, educational institutions and the expert community. The Governor of the Leningrad Region Alexander Drozdenko, Senator of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Sergey Perminov, Director of the Department of State Policy in the Sphere of Protection of Children's Rights of the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation Larisa Falkovskaya, Vice-Governor of St. Petersburg Irina Potekhina and Chairman of the Legislative Assembly of the Leningrad Region Sergey Bebenin addressed the audience with welcoming words.

The central element of the program was the work of 13 thematic sections. Dmitry Tikhonov spoke at the section "Development of the career guidance potential of the regional education system: specialized pre-professional classes and cluster approach."

The participants of the section discussed the creation and development of a system of specialized pre-professional classes as an effective tool for early career guidance. Particular attention was paid to models of network interaction between schools, colleges, universities and industrial enterprises within the framework of the cluster approach. Dmitry Tikhonov shared with colleagues the successful experience of the St. Petersburg Polytechnic University in organizing pre-university training and implementing projects aimed at identifying and supporting talented schoolchildren focused on engineering and technical specialties.

Dmitry Vladimirovich spoke about the role of the leading technical university in implementing the cluster approach and forming a continuous educational chain "school – university – enterprise". He shared the experience of SPbPU in organizing project activities of schoolchildren, the work of engineering classes and the implementation of additional education programs that allow identifying and supporting talented applicants focused on engineering specialties.

The report paid special attention to the new stage of development of this project directly in the Leningrad Region. Dmitry Vladimirovich reported that this academic year, with the support of the Committee for General and Professional Education of the Leningrad Region, specialized pre-professional "Engineering IT classes" were created in nine general education organizations of the region.

He called the training of teaching staff an important component. As part of the cooperation, SPbPU has already conducted advanced training for 40 teachers from schools in the Leningrad Region on the topic of "Conducting career guidance work in engineering classes: modern approaches and tools." In addition, more than 100 teachers from St. Petersburg and the region completed a three-month training program for drawing teachers using the domestic software "Nanosoft."

The creation of engineering classes is not a one-time event, but the beginning of a long journey for schoolchildren. We help not only to give them in-depth knowledge, but to immerse them in a professional environment, show real tasks and form motivation to obtain an engineering education, which is in demand by leading industrial enterprises of the Leningrad Region. Participation in such large-scale regional events as the pedagogical council is extremely important for the university. This allows us to directly interact with the pedagogical community, build long-term partnerships with schools and, ultimately, train specialists for high-tech sectors of the economy, – noted Dmitry Tikhonov.

The council members developed specific proposals for scaling up the best practices of career guidance work throughout the region, which will be taken into account in the strategy for the development of education in the Leningrad Region.

An award ceremony for the best teachers in the region was also held. For significant achievements in the field of education and many years of conscientious work, 38 representatives of the Leningrad Region education system received state and regional awards.

PISh SPbPU invites: Winter University in Engineering Sciences-2025

The advanced engineering school of SPbPU "Digital Engineering" invites 3rd-4th year students of engineering and technical specialties from the CIS countries, China, India, Iran, South Africa, Cuba and Indonesia, as well as future engineers studying at universities in St. Petersburg, to take part in the Winter University in Engineering Sciences "Artificial Intelligence and Digital Technologies".

The event will be held with the support of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, the Sociocenter, the international services of SPbPU and the Center for work with applicants of SPbPU.

The goal of the Winter University is to strengthen ties and expand cooperation between young engineers. The project is aimed at developing engineering competencies and improving the qualifications of students, in particular in such areas as digital technologies, systems digital engineering and artificial intelligence.

The Winter University will be held from November 24 to December 7, 2025, at Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University, Samara University named after Korolev, and Novgorod State University named after Yaroslav the Wise.

The application period will end on September 30, 2025. Registration and the conditions of participation are available on the Winter University website.

Training program at the Winter University at the SPbPU PISh site, designed for 150 participants, consists of technical modules, an introductory course in Russian for English-speaking students, and a cultural and entertainment program.

The training involves completing one of three equivalent engineering tracks in Russian and English, consisting of educational and design-laboratory modules.

The Technologist track for Russian-speaking students includes the following modules:

Laboratory for Digital Transformation and Lean Manufacturing; Laboratory for Intelligent Robotics and Cyber-Physical Systems (Smart Manufacturing and Industrial AI); Project Laboratory for the Application of AI Technologies to Various Types of Data; Laboratory for Polymer Composite Materials.

The Engineer track for Russian-speaking students includes the following modules:

Modern engineering in high-tech industries; Aerodynamics of the aircraft wing profile; Project laboratory for design; Personal efficiency. Training for the development of personal and professional skills.

The Innovator track for English-speaking students includes modules:

Intelligent Robotics and Cyber-Physical Systems Lab (Smart Manufacturing and Industrial AI); Supply Chain Management; Design Project Lab; Recognizing Opportunities and Generating High-Tech Startup Ideas.

The architecture of each track combines: a design module, an industrial partner module, a soft-skills module and a project module.

The modules are conducted in parallel, each of them lasts two days and takes place in groups of 15-20 people.

Over the course of two weeks, students will be introduced to business process optimization, industrial AI technologies, advanced neural network architectures, polymer composite materials, and modern digital engineering technologies.

The educational and project parts of the Winter University will be conducted by teachers of the Higher School of International Educational Programs and employees of the leading departments of the Advanced Engineering School of SPbPU "Digital Engineering": Engineering Center "Computer Engineering Center" (CompMechLab®); Scientific and Educational Center "Aircraft Engines and Power Plants"; Center for Continuing Professional Education; North-West Interuniversity Regional Educational and Scientific Center "Polytech-Cyberphysics"; Research Laboratory "Laboratory for Analysis of Biomedical Images and Data".

Thus, in 2023, the SPbPU PISh became a venue for holding Schools of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Technologies. More than 100 students from Russian and Belarusian universities successfully completed training in four areas of professional training: autonomous and unmanned transport, computer engineering, and design based on topological optimization.

In 2024, SPbPU successfully completed the Winter University in Engineering Sciences "New Scientific Horizons". Its participants included 220 students from 63 universities in Russia, the CIS and other countries. 170 young people represented 44 foreign universities in the Republic of Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Armenia, Tajikistan, China, South Africa, Iran and India. The students gained new knowledge about digital technologies in engineering, got acquainted with the technologies of system digital engineering, trained on computer simulators and simulators, conducted laboratory work and established friendly and partnership relations within the framework of joint team projects.

The success of the events confirms the demand for such international educational projects. The unique format of the events, combining theoretical training with practical work on modern equipment, helps to develop the competencies necessary for successful work in high-tech industries. In addition, such events pay special attention to the development of teamwork and intercultural communication skills, which is an important factor for future international engineers.
