From September 1st to 25th, Novosibirsk State University and the House of Scientists in Akademgorodok hosted the ninth annual "Metamorphoses of Culture" event, organized by the Department of History, Culture, and Arts. Humanitarian Institute (GI) NSU.

"The main audience is, of course, philologists and historians, but it's also nice to see mathematicians, physicists, and economists. We have interested students from various departments, because Alexander Sergeevich is a classic. I recently conducted a seminar at the Institute of Intelligent Robotics at NSU, and one boy recited an excerpt from 'The Song of the Prophetic Oleg' to me. Institute of Medicine and Medical Technologies Novosibirsk State University (IMMT NSU) held the first organizational meeting as part of the "Promising Researchers in Biomedicine" talent pool program. The Polytechnic University's Engineering League at the legendary Baikonur Cosmodrome

In September, a group of young engineers, participants in the Polytechnic University's "Engineering League" rocket science intensive, embarked on a truly cosmic journey. They visited the legendary Baikonur Cosmodrome, where they not only witnessed the launch of the Soyuz-2.1a launch vehicle but also experienced the history of space exploration.

The trip was organized by the Polytechnic University's Student Admissions Center and coincided with the 27th International Conference "Rocket Modeling in Aerospace Education for Young People." The event brought together 154 young researchers from Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, and other countries to discuss the design, construction, and launch of rocket models.

The Polytechnic delegation was accompanied by Yegor Temirgaliev, a senior lecturer at the Higher School of Industrial Management. The group included 10 students from St. Petersburg schools passionate about space and rocket science. Their stay at Baikonur was extremely intensive. "This trip left a warm, pleasant mark on my life. In my opinion, such impressions, emotions, and events are worth living for," she added.

This trip is a shining example of the Polytechnic University's strategy for engaging talented young people. NSU students and faculty successfully participated in the 24th International Conference on Cryptography SIBECRYPT

The G. P. Agibalov International Conference "Computer Security and Cryptography" was successfully held from September 8 to 13 in Irkutsk at the Matrosov Institute of System Dynamics and Control Theory of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

According to participants, the Media School became not only an educational platform but also a place for sharing experiences, pursuing creative pursuits, and expanding their network. Here, students not only mastered current media trends but also met inspiring people, made new friends, and strengthened their international connections.

"Initially, I was offered to attend the 'Heart of AIS' forum, and to be honest, it wasn't a priority for me. But then, when I arrived and saw the atmosphere, my eyes lit up, and I came back so energized that I want to make an even greater contribution to the development of our branch this year. This was my first trip with the guys. NSU launches academic exchange program with Peking University

In August 2025, a group of students Faculty of Geology and Geophysics Novosibirsk State University (NSU GGF) took part in an internship in sedimentology, stratigraphy and paleontology organized by Peking University for the first time. The group included one foreign student – Avishka Alagiyavanna from Sri Lanka, a second-year master's student at NSU GGF. The group was led by NSU postgraduate student Margarita Luzan.

The internship lasted two weeks and took place in southwest China in Guizhou Province, known for its unique habitats of marine vertebrates that existed in the Triassic period of the Mesozoic era. These places are important for understanding the restoration of marine ecosystems and the evolution of marine reptiles after the mass extinction at the end of the Permian period. This academic year, students from Peking University will visit the NSU geological training ground "Shira" (Khakassia), where students of the NSU Faculty of Geology and Geophysics undergo geological survey practice.

NSU GGF students underwent geological practice in mixed groups with Chinese students. Each route group included 1-2 NSU students. They worked together at observation points, attended theoretical classes and prepared daily reports on their activities.

— Our internship began with studying the most ancient deposits, dating back 900 million years. We gradually moved on to younger layers. Our acquaintance with the unique geological and paleontological artifacts of China began with the museum at Peking University, which houses rich mineralogical and paleontological collections. Then we flew to Guizhou Province, where the main internship continued, including sedimentological and paleontological aspects. This province is home to two lagerstätten — unique fossil sites where, due to special conditions, not only hard parts of skeletons are well preserved, but also imprints of soft tissues of animals and plants. We studied rock sequences and observed changes in sedimentation settings, including sections with coal interlayers. It is known that coals are formed in continental conditions, and limestones formed in marine shelf conditions are found next to them. We found various traces of ancient life – brachiopods, foraminifera and mineral samples, – Margarita Luzan shared her impressions of the internship.

A highlight for NSU students was a visit to the so-called "golden nail", which serves as a reference point on the stratigraphic section and defines the lower boundary of the stage on the geochronological scale. In these sections, the boundary between geological systems is clearly visible. The students also visited the Xinyi Geopark, which contains lagerstätten, and unique finds from them are housed in museums around the world.

— In such a short time, our students have seen a great many geological artifacts, which they were shown both in museums and on specific outcrops. Now they have a clear idea of the structure of sedimentary basins that formed many hundreds of millions of years ago. This knowledge is extremely important for geologists. For our part, we can offer Chinese students an internship at our educational geological site "Shira" (Khakassia), where all the conditions for practical training and accommodation have been created. As part of mixed groups, they will be able to get a detailed idea of the structure of sedimentary basins and the formation of igneous rocks already on our territory, — noted Dean of the NSU Geological Faculty, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Valery Vernikovsky.

This internship was the result of agreements on cooperation in the field of earth sciences reached during the visit of the Peking University delegation to NSU this spring. As cooperation develops, the parties will form joint research projects. The leadership of Peking University expressed interest in conducting geological internships for their students.

— In the near future, a cooperation agreement between our universities will be prepared, which will spell out all the important points. The signing of the agreement is planned for the end of this year. Such internships allow our students to get acquainted with various geological practices, which is very important for young scientists. Peking University is one of the oldest universities in China, founded in 1898. It ranks second in Chinese university rankings and is among the top 50 universities in the world. Therefore, we are interested in cooperation with this university, — noted the head of the NSU education export department, Evgeny Sagaydak.

"Technoprom-2025": SPbPU PISh graduate presents results of practice-oriented training

Natalia Grozova, an engineer at the Polymer Composite Materials laboratory of the Advanced Engineering School of SPbPU "Digital Engineering", a graduate of the master's program of the PIS "Mechanics of Polymer and Composite Materials", spoke at a pitch session during the XII International Forum of Technological Development "Technoprom-2025".

The event was attended by young engineers and researchers from various Russian universities. They presented their experience of studying, participating in projects and interacting with industrial partners.

Natalia Grozova noted the practical orientation of the training in her speech: As part of our master's program, we were not limited to fundamental disciplines, but studied in depth specialized areas of polymer and composite materials. Internships at enterprises such as UEC Saturn and cooperation with the Kabardino-Balkarian State University allowed us to immerse ourselves in the processes of synthesis and processing of materials. This approach made it possible not only to master the theory, but also to immediately apply knowledge in real projects.

The Polytechnic engineer spoke about the main areas of research at the Polymer Composite Materials laboratory, on which the master's program is based:

technologies of impregnation with thermoplastic polymers; technologies of welding composite materials from thermoplastic polymers; development of technology for automated laying out of thermoplastic tape; development of technology and equipment for recycling waste and end-of-life products from thermoplastic polymer composite materials (TPCM); development of optically transparent composite materials for use in solar batteries; development of auxiliary technologies and equipment; study of the processes of formation and evolution of the structure of TPCM (crystallization kinetics, radiation resistance, aging, etc.).

“Our laboratory develops a technology for impregnating tapes with thermoplastic polymers, which was implemented in the interests of the composite division of Rosatom – JSC Umatex,” said Natalia Grozova. – My direct participation in the project was related to assistance in developing a technology for impregnating thermoplastic polymers to obtain a filament continuously reinforced for 3D printing. This is one of the leading technologies that is currently being implemented in our country. In early 2023, a laboratory unit with four lines was developed and manufactured to obtain continuously reinforced filament on the superstructural and high-temperature polymer polyetheretherketone. It was a laboratory unit with a capacity of 500 meters per hour. In 2024, we developed a pilot industrial unit for 40 reels, which has a record productivity of 12,000 meters per hour.”

The topic of the final qualification work and master's thesis of the graduate of the SPbPU PISh "Digital Engineering" is "Development of optically transparent composite materials for the protection of solar elements of satellites". This work is carried out in cooperation with the company "Bureau 1440".

We have conducted a large cycle of research related to the study of methods for obtaining and ensuring resistance to radiation exposure of optically transparent polymer composite materials based on thermoplastic polyurethane and glass fillers of various shapes to create protective coatings for solar cells used in spacecraft, Natalia Grozova summarized.

Following the pitch session, participants confirmed that leading engineering schools are currently shaping a new generation of engineers who combine fundamental training with industry skills.
