January 25 is Vladimir Vysotsky’s birthday!

This year, the legendary Soviet poet, theater and film actor, singer-songwriter, and prose writer would have turned 88.

Vladimir Semenovich was born in Moscow to a military communications officer. He graduated from high school in 1955, eager to enroll in theater school. However, at the urging of his father and grandfather, he opted for a more respectable profession and enrolled at the Moscow Civil Engineering Institute. He stopped attending classes after just one semester, his love for theater outweighing both the opinions of his elders and financial difficulties. Vysotsky spent the winter and spring of 1956 living with friends, rarely being home, and in June, he entered the Moscow Art Theater School. There, he began to master the intricacies of acting under the tutelage of Boris Vershilov, Alexander Komissarov, and Pavel Massalsky. It was also during this time that he began to explore poetry and developed an interest in cinema.

Thanks to his talent, he became an idol of millions:

He wrote more than 800 poems, which became widely known. He was a leading actor at the Taganka Theatre, where he played key roles such as Hamlet, Galileo, Khlopusha, and Lopakhin. He starred in more than 25 films, his most famous roles being Gleb Zheglov (in the television series “The Meeting Place Cannot Be Changed”) and roles in “Intervention,” “Master of the Taiga,” and “Two Comrades Served.”

Vladimir Vysotsky's works reflected the world of the ordinary Soviet person—with all their problems, experiences, hopes, and dreams. They revealed every facet of life: profession, hobbies, daily life, actions, and moods. His guitar and inimitable voice, which became the "voice of a generation," created a unique character. Vysotsky's war songs ("Black Pea Coats," "Song of a Fallen Friend," "We Rotate the Earth," and others) became anthems to the heroism of fallen heroes, while his genre sketches ("Dialogue in Front of the TV," "Expensive Program," "Comrade Scientists," "Police Protocol") became witty chronicles of the times.

Love poetry occupied a special place in his work ("Ballad of Love," "I Love You," "Paradise Apples"). The poems were a true confession and revelation, and love was considered an absolute value and the source of life. The poet wrote: "I breathe—and therefore I love! I love—and therefore I live!"

In honor of this remarkable man's birthday, a series of events will be held in Moscow. Here's where fans of his work can go:

January 24th is celebrated annually as International Women's Sports Day. The celebration was initiated by the French organizations Femix' Sports and the National Olympic Committee. The idea arose from the lack of attention paid to women's sports in the press, and journalists have dedicated stories to this day ever since. Since 2014, this day has been dedicated to women's achievements in sports, their strength, perseverance, talent, and hard work!

The State University of Management offers excellent sports facilities—a sports complex, a swimming pool, and a football field with stands for fans are located on campus. On January 21, the final of the annual city competition "Miss and Mister Students of Moscow" took place, timed to coincide with Russian Students' Day.

Twenty finalists from 17 Moscow universities performed on the stage of the Moscow Concert Hall. The State University of Management was represented by Alexander Tavadze, a third-year student at the Institute of Marketing and Mr. GUU 2024.

Over 100 students from over 60 Moscow universities participated in this year's qualifying round. Each contestant presented a creative performance, and then the 40 semifinalists competed in five challenges: intellectual, culinary, athletic, creative, and dance.

The final stage took the form of a gala concert, which transformed into a true story about Moscow. The audience witnessed a show where the city became a grand stage, giving everyone a chance to express themselves. The creative youth embodied the energy of the metropolis—its rhythm, aspirations, and hopes. All numbers were performed to live music.

At the end of the evening, the winners of the competition were announced: Miss and Mr. Students, as well as Vice-Miss and Vice-Mr.

GUU student Alexander Tavadze rightfully became Vice-Mr. of Moscow Student Union and thanked everyone for their support. And, of course, the event couldn't have been complete without our signature chant, which echoed throughout Moscow: "This is Vykhino, this is the South-Eastern Administrative District, this is our GUU, we love it!"

We congratulate Alexander on his latest victory. We are immensely proud of our talented students and wish them success in their future endeavors!

An important disclaimer is at the bottom of this article.

On January 21, the Russian scientific community celebrates an unofficial holiday: Graduate Student Day.

It was on this day in 1925 that documents regulating the system of training scientific workers were issued: “Regulations on scientific workers of higher education institutions” and “Instructions on the procedure for training scientific workers at research institutes and higher education institutions in applied, exact and natural sciences.”

Every year, approximately 100 talented young people seeking a career in science enroll in graduate school at the State University of Management. SUM places great emphasis on developing the scientific field and supporting young scientists and graduate students. Our university has created the necessary infrastructure for a wide range of research: several research centers are integrated into a system, new modern laboratories have opened, including those equipped with CNC machines, reverse engineering equipment, digital innovations for industry, and unmanned systems. A number of major research projects are underway, and a Student Design Bureau is in operation.

In 2025, our graduate students participated in and won various national competitions, including the first Student Design Bureau Competition and the second Young Scientists Competition, and the overall winners of the All-Russian Space Dictation.

Today, we congratulate our graduate students on their professional holiday. We wish them inspiration for new discoveries, successful research, and caring scientific advisors and talented colleagues. Let us continue to advance science together for the benefit of our country!

Experts from across the country gathered at the State University of Management to develop a new standard for tourism education.

On January 20, the State University of Management opened a discussion platform titled "Tourism, Hospitality, Service: The Role of Social, Humanitarian, Natural, and Technical Sciences in the Formation and Development of Professional Qualities."

Representatives from educational institutions, government agencies, and businesses gathered to discuss the future of the tourism industry and upcoming changes to the training system.

Vladimir Stroev, Rector of the State University of Management, addressed the participants with a welcoming speech.

"Today, our university is hosting an important event affecting all universities across the country. Issues related to changes in the education system will be discussed here. I am pleased about this, as it was at SUM that educational and methodological associations (EMAs) were established and successfully operated for many years in our university's core areas: management, public and municipal administration, human resources management, and so on. Even back then, we discussed discipline cycles, their interrelationships, and the importance of a systems approach. Furthermore, SUM has a specialized institute headed by Professor Alexey Chudnovsky, a renowned tourism expert. We are both still members of this specialized EMA, whose meetings were held in this hall several years ago. I am confident that the results of today's session will be effective and will benefit the development of our education," concluded Vladimir Vitalyevich.

Rector of Sochi State University Natalia Frolova spoke in more detail about the meeting's goals and expected results.

"I thank the rector of the State University of Management for the opportunity to meet at this venue and discuss important issues related to the further development of the tourism sector. In 2027, our country will transition to a new national education system. And at our meetings, we will discuss the future we want to see. As the saying goes, 'If you want to know what the future will be like, create it.' As a result of the work at this session and the subsequent forum, we will have a draft educational standard 4.0 that is clear to us and supported by all," explained Natalya Vladimirovna.

Elena Logunova, Deputy Minister of Resorts, Tourism, and Olympic Heritage of the Krasnodar Territory, joined the meeting via videoconference. She emphasized that "tourism requires highly qualified specialists and managers, so it is especially important that the education system meets the real requirements of employers."

Yuri Barzykin, Chairman of the Committee on Tourism Entrepreneurship at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation, agreed. He greeted the audience via videoconference and noted that "the key constraint to tourism development is the lack of personnel. Without people, not a single project will be realized."

Following welcoming remarks from regional and educational institution representatives, the meeting continued with presentations from subject-matter experts. Afterward, the session participants, divided into teams, began the practical portion of the work. Each team analyzed the role of a specific discipline, defined the knowledge and skills to be developed, and proposed the name of the foundational discipline, its scope, and its connection to general professional disciplines.

At the conclusion of the platform, the teams will present their work, and a panel discussion will result in the development of a coordinated proposal for the fundamental component of the new state educational standard for tourism and service.

Crimean Republic Day: A Path to Self-Reliance

Translation. Region: Russian Federation –

Source: Official website of the State –

An important disclaimer is at the bottom of this article.

Every year on January 20, Russia celebrates an important date: the Day of the Republic of Crimea.

This holiday is associated with the first Crimean referendum and was established in 2009, and after the peninsula returned to Russia in 2014, it was enshrined in the corresponding regional law.

History of the peninsula

The Crimean peninsula has a rich history, much of which is connected with Russia.

In the first centuries of the Common Era, Crimea was part of the Roman Empire. From the 8th century onward, this territory was divided between the Byzantine Empire and the Khazar Empire. In 1478, Crimea came under the control of the Ottoman Empire, becoming a major base for raids on Russia.

After the Russo-Turkish War of 1768–1774, which ended in victory for the Russian side, Crimea was declared an independent territory, and in 1783, Empress Catherine II issued a manifesto on the annexation of the peninsula to Russia.

Subsequently, the Crimean Peninsula repeatedly became a theater of military operations. Its defenders distinguished themselves during the Crimean War (1853–1856) and the First World War.

In 1921, the Crimean Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic was formed and became part of the RSFSR. However, after the Great Patriotic War, its status was changed to that of an oblast. And in 1954, First Secretary of the CPSU Central Committee Nikita Khrushchev signed a decree transferring Crimea to the Ukrainian SSR.

First referendum: return of autonomy

Discussions about restoring Crimea's autonomy began in the 1980s, fueled by the economic situation, the return of indigenous peoples from deportation, the establishment of Ukrainian as the sole state language, the development of the environmental movement, and other factors.

As a result, on January 20, 1991, a referendum was held on the restoration of the Crimean Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic (ASSR).

On this day, in response to the question "Are you in favor of re-establishing the Crimean Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic as a subject of the USSR and a party to the Union Treaty?", over 93% of Crimeans voted in favor of restoring Crimean autonomy. Recognizing the will of the people, on February 12, 1991, the Supreme Soviet of the Ukrainian SSR adopted the Law "On the Restoration of the Crimean Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic."

Second referendum: returning home

On March 16, 2014, a referendum was held in Crimea. Two questions were posed: "Do you support the reunification of Crimea with Russia as a subject of the Russian Federation?" and "Do you support the restoration of the 1992 Constitution of the Republic of Crimea and the status of Crimea as part of Ukraine?" More than 96% of voters voted in favor of joining the Russian Federation.

On March 17, Crimea was declared a sovereign state, the Republic of Crimea, and Crimean authorities approached Russia with a proposal to join the federation. As a result, on March 18, 2014, Vladimir Putin signed an agreement between Russia and the Republic of Crimea granting the peninsula equal status within the Russian Federation.

Celebrating Crimean Republic Day is an opportunity to remember those who fought for the rights and freedoms of their people. We honor the memory of those who gave their lives for a peaceful future for Crimea and Russia. This day reminds us that we are a united, strong country capable of overcoming any difficulties and preserving our identity.

Dictionary Day: A Celebration of Knowledge and Meanings

Translation. Region: Russian Federation –

Source: Official website of the State –

An important disclaimer is at the bottom of this article.

On January 18, Russia celebrates a unique holiday dedicated to linguistic traditions and the importance of understanding the meaning of the words we use in everyday life: Dictionary Day.

The date was chosen to commemorate the beginning of work on the first Soviet explanatory dictionary, edited by Dmitry Ushakov. On January 18, 1920, Vladimir Lenin wrote to Anatoly Lunacharsky, People's Commissar for Education of the RSFSR, proposing "to create a dictionary of words now used by classic writers from Pushkin to Gorky." After extensive work, despite encountering obstacles, the first volume was published in 1935.

The Explanatory Dictionary of the Russian Language, edited by Dmitry Ushakov, contains over 90,000 entries and remains one of the most outstanding examples of Russian lexicography.

However, Dictionary Day is not only an occasion to remember the history and importance of word meanings, but also an opportunity to congratulate those who study language and literature.

The State University of Management congratulates everyone who contributes to the development and preservation of the language: teachers and lexicographers, writers and editors, and, most importantly, the staff of our university's Department of Russian Language and General Disciplines. We wish students an easy way to absorb information, never confuse "effectiveness" with "efficiency," develop logical thinking, and draw logical conclusions.

Dictionaries are an essential tool for language learning, helping us understand the meaning, usage, and nuances of words. Today's holiday is an excellent opportunity to reflect on how language shapes our perception of the world and the importance of knowledge for effective communication and communication.
