The final round of the All-Russian Student Olympiad in Road Transport Specialties took place in Rostov-on-Don at the Don State Technical University. Students from the Higher School of Transport of the Institute of Mechanical Engineering, Materials, and Transport of St. Petersburg Polytechnic University participated. The event brought together the best graduates from the country's leading transport universities.

The jury also included HSE Associate Professor Alexander Kashtalinsky. He presented four final theses by HSE students who demonstrated outstanding results.

The winners and prize-winners were students and graduates of the Higher School of Transport of the Institute of Metallurgical and Nuclear Engineering.

Maria Abdulazyanova (1st year Master's degree student) — 1st place in the nomination "Research Diploma Theses" (supervisor — Associate Professor of the HSE Alexander Kashtalinsky) Kirill Kamaev (1st year Master's degree student) — 1st place in the nomination "Automated Traffic Management Systems" (supervisor — Associate Professor of the HSE Alexander Kashtalinsky) Ekaterina Kozlova (graduate of 2025) — 1st place in the nomination "Organization and Ensuring the Safety of Non-Motorized Road Users" (supervisor — Associate Professor of the HSE Alexander Kashtalinsky) Victoria Afonina (1st year Master's degree student) — 2nd place in the nomination "Traffic Organization with Reconstruction of the Street and Road Network" (supervisor — Professor of the HSE Andrey Gorev)

Alexander Kashtalinsky commented on the Polytechnic students' success: "We are proud to see that our students' final projects demonstrated a high level, confidently competing with projects from graduates of such flagship transport universities as MADI, SibADI, and DSTU. This demonstrates that the quality of training at the IMMiT Higher School of Transport meets the modern requirements of the transport industry."

At the same time, Alexander Sergeevich noted a serious problem: "Unfortunately, we are seeing a steady decline in the number of graduate theses on traffic management nationwide. This is directly related to the merger and closure of specialized departments. Given the acute shortage of qualified design engineers, this situation poses a significant threat to the development of Russia's transport infrastructure."

For several days, St. Petersburg became the capital of student brigades in the Northwest. The 12th District Rally took place there, bringing together over 800 of the most active and talented student brigades. The Polytechnic University, as a hospitable host and one of the strongest participants, was at the center of the action and demonstrated outstanding results in all program areas: from professional competitions to sports battles and creative festivals.

Thanks to the organization of the rally in the cultural capital, the St. Petersburg Polytechnic University hosted large-scale events—a student team headquarters competition and a multifaceted Spartakiad. The Polytechnic University not only provided its modern auditoriums and sports facilities but also became the central venue for determining the strongest management teams and the most athletic athletes in the Northwest.

The rally began with victories by the Polytechnic students at the highest level. In the team competition, Ekaterina Ryabizo (SPO "SOzvezdie") took first place among the methodologists, and Nikita Likhalitov (SSO "Iskra") became the best master, also winning gold.

Currently, more than 414,000 foreign students from 184 countries are studying at Russian universities, and by 2030, the plan is to accept up to half a million foreign students, the minister said.

Active work is underway to achieve this: modernization of infrastructure, construction of new campuses, and the introduction of grant support that covers not only tuition but also accommodation and travel.

A 1985 Polytechnic University graduate, Issa Togo rose from the leader of the Malian community in Leningrad to the architect of Mali's higher education reform, serving as a member of the expert group establishing the new Polytechnic University. Today, as Mali's Honorary Consul in St. Petersburg, he coordinates a large-scale Russian-Malian project to build a hydroelectric power station that addresses issues of energy supply, water supply, and flood protection.

SPbPU is one of the founders and most active participants in the consortium implementing the "Ambassadors of Russian Education and Science" program. The Polytechnic University is proud that the contribution of its graduates to the advancement of Russian education and science has been so highly recognized, and now four Polytechnic University graduates have this honorary title.

Dmitry Arsenyev, SPbPU Vice-Rector for International Affairs, praised the recognition of the graduates' achievements: Liu Wei and Issa Togo exemplify the deep integration of the best traditions of Russian education into the global scientific and educational space. Their long-standing, consistent work represents genuine diplomacy of trust, where each completed project becomes a building block in the edifice of mutual understanding between nations. We see them as strategic partners whose work directly contributes to strengthening the international prestige of Russian education and science. Awarding them this honorary title is a logical recognition of their role as champions of Russian educational standards and scientific achievements, whose work forms a solid foundation for future breakthrough joint projects.

Since the program's launch in 2023, 24 international experts have been awarded the title of ambassador. By 2030, the pool of ambassadors is expected to expand to 250 representatives from 60 countries, opening new opportunities for promoting Russian education and science on the global stage.
