Last weekend, the first stage of the Moscow Student Cheer League took place at the State University of Management's sports complex. The competition was organized by the Phoenix student sports club with the support of the First Management University.

Nine teams from Moscow's capital universities took part in the event, including the State University of Management, the Moscow Institute of Electronic Technology (MIET), the Bauman Moscow State Technical University (MSTU), the Timiryazev Russian State Agrarian University (RSAU-MTSA), the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (MIPT), and others.

The team competed in 11 cheerleading and cheer sports disciplines, where teamwork, concentration, and professional execution were key. Ultimately, our team won gold in the Cheer Dance Show category, bronze in the Cheer Jazz Doubles category, and a respectable fifth place in the Cheer Freestyle Group category.

We sincerely thank the organizers, partners, fans, and spectators for their support, which became an important part of the First Management Cheerleaders' performance!

It's worth noting that the Moscow Student Cheer League promotes youth sports, uncovers young talent, and strengthens ties between student communities at Moscow's universities. The next stage of the competition is ahead, so let's look forward to more victories together!

The State University of Management team became a finalist in the University Team Competition for Youth Policy and Educational Activities in the category "Patriotic Education and Unity of the Peoples of Russia."

On December 9, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, a lecture on "Patriotic Education and Unity of the Peoples of Russia" will be held in the lobby of the Center for Educational and Upbringing Programs (CEUP). The lecture will cover thematic events held at the First Management Center, grants received, relationships with external partners, and many other activities implemented over the past years.

On December 16, finalists will perform in person at Moscow universities and defend their projects before a distinguished jury as part of the All-Russian Congress on Youth Policy and Educational Activities.

A total of 866 applications from university teams were submitted to the competition, and 143 finalists representing 136 educational institutions from 58 regions of Russia are vying for victory in the final.

"We all, regardless of nationality, are one vast country with a great history. Harmony and unity, loyalty to our traditions and moral values are the most important conditions for the stable and dynamic development of the state and the calm and peaceful lives of its citizens. And it is equally important to be proud of your homeland, value its experience and history, and pass this feeling on to future generations," emphasized Vladimir Stroyev, Rector of the State University of Management.

"This competition allowed us to once again confirm that Russian universities have formed professional teams that are successfully conducting systematic work in key areas of youth policy," noted Maxim Dreval, General Director of the Russian Society "Knowledge."

In the Year of Defender of the Fatherland and the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War, the State University of Management hosted the Student Interregional Historical Ball "Inspiration," organized by the Student Council of the Institute of Distance Education (FIZ GUU) with grant support from the Federal Agency for Youth Affairs.

A lavish ballroom celebration featuring reenactments of authentic ballroom dances and depictions of various historical eras in honor of Heroes of the Fatherland Day, which we will celebrate on December 9, brought together enthusiasts from all corners of the country. As per tradition, the regional public organization for the support of intellectuals and entrepreneurs, "Planet-Golden Club," under the direction of Elena Zhukova, played an active role in the preparation and hosting of the ball. A true highlight of the celebration was the participation of the brass band of the Central Border Ensemble of the FSB of Russia, led by the outstanding conductor, trumpeter, and teacher Alexei Strenadko.

During the ball's opening ceremony, Sergei Ivanovich Lenshin, Director of the GUU Institute of Distance Education, warmly welcomed all participants on behalf of our Rector, Vladimir Stroyev, and expressed confidence that such events will continue to bring together Russian patriots who care about the past, present, and future of the Fatherland within the university: "This historical, patriotic, and cultural event is aimed, first and foremost, at strengthening traditional moral values among young people, preserving the historical memory of Russia's heroic past and the heroes of our time—participants in the North-Eastern Military District and other armed conflicts of the recent past—and, overall, at promoting and protecting the historical and cultural heritage of our homeland. From November 24 to 29, 2025, an international industry internship, organized by the Dynamics of Mobility Educational and Methodological Center, took place in Beijing. The event was attended by a Russian delegation, including representatives of the Russian State Research Center NAMI, as well as students, faculty, and researchers from more than ten leading Russian universities training personnel for the domestic automotive industry. Vladimir Filatov, Director of the Engineering Project Management Center, represented the State University of Management at the internship.

From the office to the climate chamber

The program included visits to key players in the Chinese automotive industry. Delegates learned about the operations of the engineering company IAT, visiting its headquarters and innovation labs, including VR zones and climate chambers, and discussing vehicle design processes. Participants also visited the Beifang Group's education center, where they learned about modern engineering training methods and equipment, and the BAIC plant, which specializes in SUV production.

The internship provided Russian specialists and students with the opportunity to gain first-hand experience with advanced technologies, production, and educational practices in the Chinese automotive industry, as well as establish professional contacts for future collaboration. The event made a significant contribution to the development of scientific, technical, and educational partnerships between Russia and China in the automotive sector.

From license to leadership

Over the past ten years, the Chinese automotive industry has made a leap from licensed production to world-class, in-house development. This reflects a global trend: technological leadership is gradually shifting toward China. The largest Chinese automakers long ago stopped copying Western designs. Today, they are developing their own architectures, platforms, and designs, demonstrating particularly strong leadership in the electric and hybrid vehicle segments, which account for nearly 60% of global sales.

The success of the Chinese auto industry is built on four powerful pillars: government and corporate support, the development of domestic battery production (CATL, CALB), flexible and locally integrated supply chains, and a rapid pace of model lineup innovation—new generations of cars appear every two to three years. Recently, our president, in an interview with Nomad TV, praised the Chinese auto industry: "Products have begun to appear in the People's Republic of China that are more competitive than European ones. The latest example is electric cars. Well, the Chinese make them better and cheaper than the Europeans. The European auto industry is simply crumbling," Vladimir Putin said. And we at the State University of Management are always ready to adopt and improve on the best global practices.

The results of the first All-Russian Space Dictation, organized as part of the federal project "Personnel for Space," have been announced. The top three finishers were young researchers from the State University of Management—graduate students Nikita Akinshin and Vladimir Kutkov.

Over a thousand people from across Russia participated in the event—students, young professionals, and anyone passionate about space and science. Each participant has already received a personalized certificate. The organizers expressed special gratitude to the universities whose students demonstrated the greatest participation: the First Management University, Lomonosov Moscow State University (MSU), Moscow Automobile and Road Construction State Technical University (MADI), Russian State Hydrometeorological University (RSHU), and St. Petersburg State University of Aerospace Instrumentation (SUAI).

Our colleagues, graduate students Nikita Akinshin and Vladimir Kutkov, took the lead in the race, receiving a navigator's watch from the "Gagarin" series as a prize. Everyone who made it into the top 30 received special certificates, as well as prizes and gifts from the federal project "Personnel for Space."

Alexander Vedekhin, administrator of the Russian Ministry of Education and Science's federal project "Personnel for Space," thanked all participants, organizers, partners, and universities for their contribution to the development of scientific and technical culture and their support of interest in space: "We hope the All-Russian Space Dictation will become an important educational initiative that will unite students and young professionals from across the country. Vladimir Stroyev, Rector of the State University of Management, along with his colleagues—heads of universities, business leaders, and legislators—are restoring the term "mentor" to its original meaning: a wise mentor willing to share their wealth of experience and knowledge with their students.

The organizers of the gala event "Creators. Rosmolodezh.Entrepreneur and Rosmolodezh.Profi" offered the first such opportunity to top Russian managers by creating a "Mentoring Lounge" for personal interaction with young entrepreneurs, professionals, and those still learning to be one.

This innovative, dynamic format includes several expert zones, each dedicated to a specific area of expertise. It is based on a rotation system: each half-hour round is divided into three parts. During each 10-minute interval, a mentor advises one participant, with the dialogue centered around the participant's request, even if it doesn't fit into the overall program.

"The 'Mentor's Lounge' project is aimed at developing entrepreneurial skills in young people. I discussed a wide range of topics with the students: for example, how to apply their technological skills in management or how to scale a business," our rector explained.

Students from the State University of Management took an active part in the business program of the 7th International Municipal Forum (IMF) of the BRICS countries, which brought together experts, government representatives, and business representatives from more than 70 countries in St. Petersburg.

The forum's primary objective was to promote the socioeconomic development of urban spaces through an open exchange of best practices and innovative solutions. Discussions focused on key aspects of urban governance: from infrastructure modernization and digital transformation to environmental, economic, cultural, and educational issues. Particular emphasis was placed on developing international partnerships and strengthening humanitarian ties between countries.

Our students—Danila Yakovlev, a Master's student in the Sustainable Development Management program, and Katerina Sukmanova, a Master's student in the Hotel Management program—presented at the plenary sessions "The Impact of Universities on Sustainable Urban Development" and "International Tourism in a Multipolar World." During the discussions, the participants discussed the successful experience of the Russian Ministry of Education and Science, including the "Startup as a Diploma" program. As a result, Bashir Abbas, General Advisor to the Federation of Rectors of Russian and Arab Universities, Samahi, invited the young scientists to a conference in Egypt. Furthermore, a productive dialogue on waste recycling issues took place with the mayor of a Brazilian city, Eder Miano Pereira.

"We are confident that the knowledge gained and new contacts will form the basis for further international cooperation and practical development of SUM projects," our students noted.

On November 17, the State University of Management's expeditionary corps celebrated its first anniversary. About a hundred students and representatives of the expeditionary corps' partners gathered in the Business Center to review the past period and discuss their plans and prospects for the future.

The meeting was opened by Vladimir Stroyev, Rector of the State University of Management, who emphasized the importance of participating in expeditions for developing management skills.

"I'm truly delighted that our university has established an expeditionary corps, as its work is largely volunteer and heartfelt. Moreover, it's a unique experience, an opportunity to get to know your country, its history, its different regions, and its culture. During expeditions, you make lasting friendships, having endured trials together and shared memories. As a student, I traveled extensively through the taiga and the mountains, and I still remember those days fondly," the rector admitted.

To further develop the geography of the expeditions, Vladimir Stroyev, on behalf of the university, signed cooperation agreements with Igor Sin'ko, Executive Director of the Clean Arctic NGO, and Mikhail Butrimov, Director of the Russian Ecosystem NGO. Representatives of these organizations already participated in 2025 in organizing trips for SMU students to the Arctic and the Vyzhegodsky District, respectively.

Vladimir Linnik, head of the GUU expeditionary corps and member of the Russian Geographical Society, spoke about the expeditions that took place in 2024-2025, showed videos of the trips prepared by the students, and shared plans for next year.

Representatives of the organizations that participated in the excursions expressed gratitude to the corps participants and to the State University of Management as a whole.

Mikhail Butrimov noted the high level of responsibility, enthusiasm, and willingness to work under any conditions, both among the GUU students and the faculty who accompanied them to the Vyzhegodsky District to restore the population of endangered plants. Hieromonk Nikon of the Zosima Hermitage, where our students visited approximately 30 times this year, shared his observation that both the expedition participants and the monks were able to understand each other's worldviews and overcome stereotypes. Dmitry Fedoseyev, head of the Clean Arctic volunteer groups, introduced the participants to the project's main activities and potential, and discussed who is suitable for Arctic expeditions.

In the assembly hall of the State University of Management, cultures and hearts met, united by memories and respect passed down from generation to generation. Olga Petrova, Deputy Minister of Higher Education and Science of Russia, greeted those gathered and said she was pleased to be present at such a grand celebration dedicated to our unity. The hall also warmly welcomed Biysultan Khamzaev, a deputy of the VIII State Duma from the United Russia party, who first greeted his fellow Dagestani citizens with the traditional "Salam aleikum!", which elicited thunderous applause.

Biysultan Sultanbievich emphasized: “It’s clear that anything cultural is a good thing. And in general, what unites us all is wonderful. We walked through the foyer and saw how the children had prepared for the festival: the food, the costumes, the flags. It’s wonderful that we want to showcase the best we have, our greatest strengths. But most of all, I like your festival slogan: ‘Hero of His People.’ You’ve emphasized what truly unites us all. Because the future of Russia depends on you; you will lead, demonstrate strong character, and, among other things, tirelessly support the ‘age-old union of fraternal peoples,’ as the wise words of our anthem say.”

The deputy explained that he represented his beloved Dagestan in parliament, invited everyone to visit, and added that his republic is as unique and multinational as the rest of Russia—each of its peoples has its own distinct character, but we are all united by respect for traditions, a caring attitude toward family, and a boundless love for our homeland. Biysultan Khamzayev called for a round of applause for those who defend our values during the special military operation, which the young men gladly did.

It's worth noting that our university prepared a tasting of national cuisines for the celebration of our fellow countrymen—the foyer was filled with delightful, spicy aromas. During the concert, short but powerful video stories about those who performed heroic deeds in the name of the Fatherland were shown on the screen: the names of heroes of the Soviet Military District, the Great Patriotic War, freedom fighters, doctors, scientists, poets, and writers were featured. University performers delighted the audience with rousing folk dances, songs, and theatrical sketches featuring elements of sbandieratori—a traditional Italian flag-juggling technique that originated on battlefields in the 15th century as a heraldic accompaniment to troops.

The atmosphere was incredible: the audience sang along with their fellow countrymen, the kids chanted the names of their countries, and even danced in the aisles. As one of our employees, who was celebrating her anniversary that very day and was present at the festival, said: "It was the best birthday of my life!"

November 8th marks the International Day of the Club of the Funny and Inventive (KVN) in Russia – a holiday dedicated to one of the most popular and iconic comedy TV shows that has united many generations of students.

From the Czech idea to Soviet humor

The roots of KVN go back to 1957, when the 6th World Festival of Youth and Students was held in Moscow. It became clear then that Soviet television lacked programs for young people. The "Festival Editorial Board," formed under the leadership of Sergei Muratov, proposed its own version: "Evening of Merry Questions" (VVV), a Soviet version of the Czech program "Gadai, Gadai, Gadalschik."

A distinctive feature of the format was the inclusion of the audience in the game—no one simply sat in front of the screen. The tasks were absurdly difficult and hilarious at the same time: live on air, participants had to bring to the studio the seventh volume of Jack London, a potted ficus, and a kerosene stove, and in the summer, they had to show up wearing a fur coat, a hat, and felt boots. It was precisely this curious incident that led to the closure of VVV: a crowd of students flooded the studio, overwhelmed the police, tore up the curtains, and caused utter chaos. The broadcast was interrupted, and the recording, alas, was lost.

The Birth of the Club of the Merry and Resourceful

Four years later, on November 8, 1961, a team of former VVV writers launched a new project—the Club of the Merry and Inventive. The name alluded to the popular television brand KVN-49, and the abbreviation emphasized the spirit of the game. The first host was Albert Axelrod, and in 1964 he was replaced by railway student Alexander Maslyakov, who remained the host until 2022. Incidentally, Maslyakov's popularity was so strong that asteroid 5245 Maslyakov, discovered by the Crimean Astrophysical Observatory, was even named after him.

The first games were held without any strict rules: competitions emerged spontaneously, tasks were created on the spot, and students joked about both everyday life and ideology. By 1964, classic competitions had emerged—warm-up, STEM, BREEZE, captains' competition, and homework. KVN also has its own music festival, "The Voice of KiViN," and the cheerful bird of the same name became the symbol of the entire competition.

Closure and revival

KVN's popularity grew, but television strictly controlled its humor. For example, shortly before the show's temporary demise in 1971, participants were banned from wearing beards on stage—censors saw this as a mockery of the founder of communist ideas, Karl Marx. Despite this, KVN remained a favorite show for students and schoolchildren until its demise became a symbol of stagnation in the USSR.

In 1986, KVN was revived thanks to the initiative of former players, and Alexander Maslyakov returned as host. The show received a new structure: league levels, a rating system, and new competition formats. The game's anthem changed: first, "On the appointed day, at the appointed hour," and after the break, "We are starting KVN."

Over time, KVN became a veritable breeding ground for Russian show business talent. The club produced Mikhail Zadornov, Yuli Gusman, Mikhail Galustyan, Sergey Svetlakov, Timur Batrutdinov, Garik Kharlamov and Martirosyan, Valdis Pelsh, Leonid Yakubovich, the Uralskie Pelmeni and Once Upon a Time in Russia teams—the list goes on and on, as KVN served as a launching pad for countless talented artists, directors, and producers. The game gave them not only popularity but also invaluable experience in engaging with audiences, creating high-quality humor, and connecting with a wide variety of audiences.

The structure of modern KVN

The current structure of the International Union of KVN is a multi-tiered league system, comprising over 7,000 teams. The central platform is the Major League, while the Premier League serves as a preparatory stage for entry into it. Since 1993, the First League has been in operation, providing preferential access to the Major League.

Since 2013, the union has operated an International League, comprising approximately twenty teams. The teams for the television leagues are formed based on the results of the International Festival in Sochi: teams that advance to the second round receive final approval from the union president.

KVN League of the State University of Management

The KVN League has existed at our university since April 1999. It was founded by members of the "GUU National Team," who developed a system for training new players and representing the university at regional and national levels.

Every year the following events take place at the State University of Management:

KVN School – training sessions for beginners with lectures and practical exercises from the editors of the Moscow Student League; the All-Russian KVN School – master classes, writing materials, and teamwork; and the Moscow and Moscow Region League Structures Festival, where teams are assigned to leagues and have the opportunity to advance to the Central or Major Leagues.

Our teams regularly participate in Moscow and national tournaments, learning from the best KVN players in the country. Many graduates of the KVN League at the State University of Management have found success not only in their professional careers but also in their creative fields, proving that leadership and a sense of humor are a wonderful combination.

In 2012, the KVN League of the State University of Management won the Youth Council Prize under the Prefect of the South-Eastern Administrative District of Moscow in the category "Best Organization in the Sphere of Youth Leisure."
