Almaty, Aug. 6 (Xinhua) — Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, at the plenary session of the 3rd UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries, put forward an initiative to create a global program for the transition to hydrogen energy for the period 2030-2040, the Neutral Turkmenistan newspaper reported on Wednesday.

"We express our readiness to participate in the development of hydrogen energy. Clear joint plans and interaction algorithms are needed here. In this context, we put forward the initiative to create a Global Program for the Transition to Hydrogen Energy for the Period 2030-2040," S. Berdimuhamedov said in his speech.

The President of Turkmenistan proposed to begin discussing the modalities of developing this program within the UN in 2026.

S. Berdimuhamedov emphasized that the initiative is based on the need to link all economic activity with environmental standards. “The essence of our environmental policy is to “tune” the economic system in such a way that the production sector is not a rival of nature, but its ally and support,” the Turkmen leader noted.

In this regard, S. Berdimuhamedov also called on conference participants to pay attention to the proposal put forward by Turkmenistan to form a global framework program for the transition to a circular economy.

The 3rd UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries, which is taking place in Turkmenistan's national tourist zone of Avaza from August 5 to 8, is attended by heads of state and government, high-ranking officials from more than 100 countries and about 50 international organizations, as well as representatives of more than 20 large companies. –0–

LONDON, Aug. 6 (Xinhua) — Birmingham Airport in the United Kingdom confirmed in a statement on social media on Wednesday that the airport's runway has been temporarily closed following an incident involving an aircraft.

The nature of the incident was not specified in the statement.

The airport administration said it would inform passengers who had already arrived at the airport. Passengers with a later departure are advised to check the status of their flight in advance before traveling to the airport.

Tbilisi, Aug. 6 (Xinhua) — Georgia has launched regular container block train service on the Poti-Tbilisi-Poti route, which will significantly enhance the role of rail transport in the country's logistics system and increase Georgia's attractiveness as a transit hub of the Middle Corridor, the Georgian Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development said on Wednesday.

The block trains will operate four times a week. According to the schedule, they will depart from Poti at 21:30 and arrive in Tbilisi at 09:47 the following day. Regardless of the occupancy of the trains, the schedule will remain unchanged, which will allow shippers to plan logistics in advance.

According to Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia Guram Guramishvili, the launch of block trains will significantly increase the logistical efficiency of the Poti port. “Containers will be delivered directly, without intermediate operations, which will reduce the overall transportation time and increase the punctuality of delivery of export-import cargo,” he emphasized.

G. Guramishvili also noted that Tbilisi is becoming increasingly important as a logistics center, from where cargo can be quickly delivered not only within Georgia, but also to neighboring Armenia and Azerbaijan.

ASHGABAT, Aug. 6 (Xinhua) — A working meeting of representatives of Caspian states was held in the Turkmen national tourist zone of Avaza, organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan jointly with the Caspian Sea Institute, the Turkmen International Information Center reported on Wednesday.

The meeting was attended by delegations from relevant ministries and departments of Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Russia and Turkmenistan.

The main topic of the agenda was the development of cooperation in the Caspian Sea in the areas of environmental protection, conservation of biological diversity and sustainable use of natural resources. The participants paid special attention to issues of ensuring environmental safety in the region.

Speaking at the meeting, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov emphasized the importance of consistent coordination of actions based on decisions taken at the summits of the heads of Caspian states.

He also noted Turkmenistan’s active position in promoting the environmental agenda and sustainable development of the Caspian region.

Participants noted the importance of the Caspian Environmental Initiative, put forward by the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov at the 78th session of the UN General Assembly. Malaysian citizens have become the first foreigners to try out a new payment mechanism, the Tourist Card, which can be used to pay for accommodation, transportation, museum visits and other expenses via remote replenishment. This was reported by Russian Minister of Economic Development Maxim Reshetnikov, commenting on the results of the official meeting between President Vladimir Putin and King of Malaysia Sultan Ibrahim.

One of the first users of the card was Malaysian Senator Jasiri Alkaf. He successfully used this payment instrument during his visit to St. Petersburg as part of the SPIEF-2025.

"Tourists from Malaysia have increasingly begun to visit Russia. In the first quarter of 2025, compared to the same period last year, the tourist flow doubled," noted Maxim Reshetnikov.

The number of Russians visiting Malaysia is also growing. In 2024, this figure exceeded the pre-COVID level by 64% compared to 2019. Since July 2025, the validity of the electronic visa has been increased from 60 to 120 days, and the length of stay from 16 to 30 days. At present, about 5 thousand people have used this mechanism.

The minister also noted the growth in trade turnover between the countries. "In January-May 2025, the growth was 40%, while Russian exports to Malaysia more than doubled," said Maxim Reshetnikov. "Our manufacturers supply fertilizers, mineral products, oil, and coal. Business is working on the supply of Russian pharmaceuticals and medical equipment. We pay special attention to the certification of Russian meat and dairy products for supplies to Malaysia."

The results of the selection under the program for the comprehensive development of youth policy in the regions of Russia “Region for the Young” have been summed up: in 2026, 94 youth centers will be renovated, including 73 municipal ones.

The final stage of the National Open Championship "ArtMasters" in 20 creative competencies is also taking place until September 30.
