LHASA, Aug. 21 (Xinhua) — Under the instruction of General Secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee Xi Jinping, members of a central government delegation on Thursday visited officials and residents in Lhasa, capital of southwest China's Xizang Autonomous Region.

Wang Huning, a member of the Standing Committee of the Politburo of the CPC Central Committee, Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), and head of the central government delegation, attended the event.

ISLAMABAD, Aug. 21 (Xinhua) — Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Thursday that the 21st century should be an era of accelerated development and rise of Asia, especially South Asia.

Wang Yi, also a member of the Politburo of the CPC Central Committee, made the statement in Islamabad during a joint press conference with Pakistani Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar following the 6th round of China-Pakistan Strategic Dialogue at the level of foreign ministers.

The Chinese Foreign Minister responded to a question from reporters about China's view on the current situation in South Asia and the role of China-Pakistan cooperation, as Pakistan is the last stop on his current tour of three South Asian countries.

South Asian countries have a long history, brilliant civilization, large population and huge development potential, Wang noted, calling them China's close neighbors linked by common mountains and rivers, and an important direction for China to build a community of shared future with neighboring countries.

JERUSALEM, Aug. 21 (Xinhua) — Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Thursday said he had instructed officials to begin "immediate negotiations" to free hostages held in Gaza and end the war, while vowing to approve military plans to capture Gaza City.

“I came here to approve the IDF’s plans to take control of Gaza City and defeat the Palestinian Hamas movement,” Netanyahu said during a visit to a military base near the Palestinian enclave.

BEIJING, Aug. 21 (Xinhua) — China regrets that some people in India are trying to undermine China's sovereignty over the Taiwan issue and hinder the improvement of China-India relations, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said on Thursday.

Moscow, Aug. 21 (Xinhua) — The Angara-1.2 carrier rocket with spacecraft was successfully launched from the Plesetsk Cosmodrome in the Arkhangelsk Region of Russia on Thursday, the Russian Defense Ministry said.

The launch took place at 12:32 Moscow time. The light-class launch vehicle carries satellites sent in the interests of the Russian Defense Ministry.

ISLAMABAD, Aug. 21 (Xinhua) — Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, held the 6th round of the China-Pakistan Strategic Dialogue at the foreign ministers' level in Islamabad on Thursday.

The Chinese diplomat noted that under the strategic guidance of the leaders of the two countries, the China-Pakistan all-weather strategic cooperative partnership has steadily advanced, acquiring greater strategic significance. Tbilisi, Aug. 21 (Xinhua) — Financial cooperation between China and Georgia will promote the development of bilateral trade, expansion of investment cooperation and implementation of major infrastructure projects, Chinese Ambassador to Georgia Zhou Qian said in an interview with the Georgian business publication Business Press News on Thursday.
