SHANGHAI, Aug. 31 (Xinhua) — East China's Shanghai recorded its 25th consecutive day of temperatures above 35 degrees Celsius on Saturday, breaking a nearly century-old record for the longest continuous period of high temperatures in the city's history.

The previous record of 24 consecutive hot days was set in 1926, when the heat wave lasted from July 22 to August 14, according to the Shanghai Meteorological Department.

Moreover, as of today, the heat wave in Shanghai this year has lasted for a total of 44 days.

The city's first hot day of the year was June 17, about 10 days earlier than the average in recent years. The August heatwave has been particularly intense, with Shanghai recording 26 high-temperature days in the past 30 days, matching the all-time August record set last year.

Meteorologist Zhu Xueyan attributed the persistent heat to the abnormal behavior of a subtropical high-pressure system in the northwest Pacific Ocean. Tbilisi, Aug. 31 (Xinhua) — Georgia will introduce a special residence permit for foreign IT specialists starting September 1, 2025. The Georgian Justice Ministry has released a list of required documents.

TIANJIN, Aug. 30 (Xinhua) — Cultural and humanitarian exchanges and cooperation among the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) countries have expanded over the past 20 years, Secretary-General of the SCO China Committee on Good-Neighborliness, Friendship and Cooperation (CCGFC) Zuo Hongbo said Saturday.

She made the remarks at a briefing for journalists in the northern Chinese port city of Tianjin, where the largest-ever SCO summit will be held from August 31 to September 1.

ASTANA, Aug. 30 (Xinhua) — Kazakhstan is widely celebrating the 30th anniversary of the adoption of its Constitution with nationwide celebrations and a three-day holiday, Kazinform reported Saturday.

In an address to his compatriots on Saturday, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said: “Exactly 30 years ago, our people made a historic choice by adopting the Basic Law of the country in a referendum. The Constitution became a solid foundation of Kazakh statehood, the Independence of the Republic of Kazakhstan. TIANJIN, Aug. 30 (Xinhua) — Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres in the north Chinese port city of Tianjin on Saturday.
