Cairo, Oct. 25 (Xinhua) — Palestinian factions including Hamas and Fatah announced on Friday that they had reached an agreement to establish a temporary independent technocratic body to govern the Gaza Strip after the conflict in the enclave ends.
According to a joint statement by the factions following two days of Egyptian-brokered talks in Cairo, the new committee, which will include independent technocrats from Gaza, will manage day-to-day affairs and provide basic services.
The factions confirmed that the body would operate within a framework of national accountability, calling for the creation of an international committee to oversee the funding and implementation of the plan to rebuild the enclave.
Palestinian factions have demanded full implementation of the ceasefire agreement reached earlier this month between Hamas and Israel.
