Washington, October 24 (Xinhua) — The US military has deployed a carrier strike group led by the USS Gerald Ford-class aircraft carrier and a carrier air wing to the US Southern Command area of responsibility, Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell announced on social media on Friday.
The U.S. Southern Command area of responsibility includes Latin America south of Mexico, waters adjacent to Central and South America, and the Caribbean Sea.
As Sh. Parnell indicated in his post on the social network X, the deployment was carried out “in support of the decree of the President /US Donald Trump/ on the elimination of transnational criminal organizations and the fight against drug terrorism in order to protect the Motherland.”
These forces will strengthen and complement existing capabilities to combat drug trafficking and weaken and dismantle transnational criminal organizations, the official representative said.
