Tashkent, October 24 (Xinhua) — The Central Bank of Uzbekistan has decided to maintain its key interest rate at 14 percent per annum. The bank's press service reported this on Friday.
The country reportedly saw steady economic growth in the third quarter of this year. The maintenance of relatively tight monetary conditions, the exhaustion of last year's inflationary impact, and the stabilizing effect of the strengthening exchange rate on commodity prices contributed to a slowdown in annual inflation in September.
"At the same time, despite strong aggregate demand, inflationary risks associated with external supply factors and high service inflation persist. Given these circumstances, the Central Bank's board has decided to keep the key rate unchanged at 14 percent per annum," the statement reads.
"The Central Bank will ensure sufficient monetary policy strictness to achieve the five percent target in the medium term," the regulator's press service said in a statement.
