Astana, October 23 (Xinhua) – VTB Bank in Kazakhstan has been added to the European Union's sanctions list. This was reported on Thursday by the Kazinform news agency, citing a relevant EU document.
According to the document, the restrictive measures will come into force on December 2, 2025. The sanctions include a ban on the bank's access to financial services and operations within the EU jurisdiction.
As Kazinform notes, VTB in Kazakhstan has previously encountered difficulties related to restrictions on the bank's head office in Russia.
The restrictive measures are part of the 19th EU sanctions package against Russia, approved Thursday in Brussels. According to EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas, the new package targets Russian banks and the so-called shadow fleet, and also includes additional restrictions on oil exports and sales.
