THE HAGUE, Oct. 22 (Xinhua) — The International Court of Justice on Wednesday ruled that Israel must ensure unimpeded passage of humanitarian aid, including from UN agencies, into the Gaza Strip.

In its advisory opinion requested by the UN General Assembly, the court found that Israel “has an obligation to accept and facilitate assistance programmes under Article 59 of the Fourth Geneva Convention” because the population of Gaza “is not receiving adequate supplies.”

“An occupying power cannot invoke security reasons to suspend all humanitarian activities in an occupied territory,” the court’s opinion reads. –0–
