BEIJING, Oct. 21 (Xinhua) — China recently added 22 sites to its list of national wetlands, bringing the total number to 80, the State Forestry and Grassland Administration announced.
The move reflects China's continued commitment to wetland conservation and restoration in recent years, including the passage of its first dedicated wetland conservation law, a major milestone in the country's environmental protection efforts.
China currently has 82 internationally significant wetlands and 22 internationally designated wetland cities. Meanwhile, more than 1 million hectares of wetlands have been added or restored nationwide.
According to the aforementioned department, in the future, it will pay special attention to improving the wetland conservation and restoration system, the survey and monitoring system, and the protection supervision system in order to improve the quality and stability of wetland ecosystems. -0-
