UN, October 21 /Xinhua/ — The UN is encouraged by the restoration of a fragile ceasefire in the Gaza Strip following the weekend's disruptions, allowing humanitarian aid to continue, UN Secretary-General's spokesman Stephane Dujarric said on Monday.

"We are encouraged that the parties have reaffirmed their commitment to implementing the ceasefire in Gaza, and we commend the mediators' continued efforts," he said. "We remain concerned about all acts of violence in Gaza and the reports of attacks and strikes that occurred yesterday," he added.

S. Dujarric urged the parties to fulfill all their obligations, ensure the protection of civilians, and avoid any steps that could lead to a resumption of hostilities or undermine humanitarian operations. "We reiterate the Secretary-General's call for the release of the remains of all deceased hostages," he added.

The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said its partners had resumed distributing food parcels to thousands of families in Deir el-Balah and Khan Younis for the first time in months.

The organization reported that Israeli authorities on Sunday for the first time allowed the UN to deploy observers at the Kisufim crossing. OCHA welcomed the move.
