PHNOM PENH, Oct. 19 (Xinhua) — Cambodia deported 64 South Korean (ROK) citizens suspected of online fraud, including five women, to their home country on Friday evening, Cambodia's Special Committee for Combating Internet Fraud said in a press release on Saturday.

The suspects were expelled from the kingdom via Techo International Airport in the southern province of Kandal, the press release said, adding that the group faces prosecution in the Republic of Korea.

“They were deported to their country of origin after authorities discovered their involvement in online fraud,” the press release said.

This is not the first time Cambodia has expelled citizens of the Republic of Kazakhstan; 180 people have previously been deported, the committee reports.

Cambodia has launched an unprecedented nationwide campaign to combat online fraud in order to maintain and protect security, public order and social welfare.

According to the committee, the kingdom has detained a total of 3,455 suspected online fraudsters from 20 countries over nearly four months. –0–
