Beijing, October 17 (Xinhua) — The People's Liberation Army (PLA) will continue to strengthen its combat capabilities to combat separatist activity and external interference, Chinese Defense Ministry spokesperson Zhang Xiaogang announced on Friday.
Zhang Xiaogang made the statement while criticizing Taiwan's Prime Minister Lai Qingde, who has recently been pushing for an increase in Taiwan's defense budget and "ensuring peace through strength."
Commenting on these statements, Zhang Xiaogang warned the Taiwan administration, represented by the Democratic Progressive Party, that attempts to secure external support for achieving independence and resist reunification by force are doomed to failure.
“We will continue to strengthen our real combat capability to combat separatist activities and external interference, and take decisive measures to safeguard national sovereignty, territorial integrity, peace, and stability in the Taiwan Strait,” the official representative of the PRC Defense Ministry concluded.
