BEIJING, Oct. 17 (Xinhua) — China's National Meteorological Center (NMC) on Friday extended a blue alert for heavy rain and strong winds in some parts of the country.
According to the National Meteorological Center, heavy rainfall is expected in parts of Chongqing and the provinces of Hubei, Henan, Shandong, Anhui, Jiangsu, Hunan, and Guizhou from 8:00 a.m. Friday to 8:00 a.m. Saturday. Specifically, rainfall amounts of 100 to 120 mm could be expected in some areas of Chongqing and Guizhou.
Heavy rainfall is forecast in some areas of the above-mentioned regions, with maximum hourly rainfall exceeding 50 mm, which may be accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds.
Local authorities were urged to make adequate preparations and properly discharge their respective responsibilities.
The National Meteorological Center also warned that strong winds are expected in some areas of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, and the provinces of Qinghai, Liaoning, Shandong, Henan, Anhui, Jiangsu, and Sichuan from 8 a.m. Friday to 8 a.m. Saturday.
According to the National Marine Center, strong winds are expected to rage in the waters of the Bohai Bay, Yellow Sea, Taiwan Strait, Bashi Strait, and the South China Sea throughout the day, starting at 8 a.m. Friday.
The National Marine Center reminded vessels navigating or operating in waters exposed to strong winds to pay attention to navigation safety. The Center also called on firefighting services to be prepared to prevent fires in forests, pastures, and urban areas.
As a reminder, China has a four-tier weather warning system, with red representing the highest level of danger, followed by orange, yellow, and blue.
