Yerevan, October 15 (Xinhua) — Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan met on Tuesday with Queen Mathilde of Belgium, who is on a three-day working visit to the country as the official advocate for the UN Sustainable Development Goals, the presidential press service reported.
Welcoming the Queen, V. Khachaturyan noted that her visit would be very beneficial for Armenia in terms of fully implementing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
Queen Mathilde expressed gratitude for the warm welcome and noted that she was pleased to visit Armenia to discuss issues related to the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
The interlocutors discussed programs implemented within the framework of the UN Sustainable Development Goals, as well as steps being taken to advance them. The parties emphasized the importance of education as the foundation for overcoming global humanitarian challenges and the sustainable development of societies.
During the discussion of relations between Armenia and Belgium, the importance of expanding bilateral cooperation in high technology, promoting innovative solutions, and implementing joint projects was emphasized. The Armenian President noted that the partnership between Armenia and Belgium, based on mutual trust, could reach new heights in science, education, and digital technology.
An exchange of views also took place regarding the holding of the 17th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Convention on Biological Diversity (COP-17) and the European Political Community summit in Armenia in 2026.
During the conversation, the importance of efforts aimed at establishing peace in the region was also emphasized. –0–
