Stockholm, Oct. 13 (Xinhua) — The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences on Monday decided to award the 2025 Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel to Joel Mokyr, Philippe Aghion and Peter Howitt.

Half of the prize will be awarded to J. Mokyr "for identifying the preconditions for sustainable growth through technological progress." The other half will be shared by F. Aghion and P. Howitt "for their theory of sustainable growth through creative destruction."

As the academy noted, the world has experienced unprecedented growth over the past two centuries, driven in large part by a continuous stream of technological innovation. Using a variety of methods, the three laureates explained why such progress was possible and what is needed to continue it.
