Once lifeless deserts are now covered with photovoltaic panels that form a “blue sea” and wind turbines that resemble a “white forest” – together they generate limitless energy from the wind and sun.

Xinjiang covers approximately one-sixth of China's land area. It is home to three mountain ranges: the Altai, Tian Shan, and Kunlun Mountains, as well as two basins: the Junggar and Tarim. Xinjiang's technically exploitable solar energy potential is estimated at approximately 4.2 billion kW, ranking first in the country. Its wind energy potential is approximately 1 billion kW, ranking second in China.

Rich in wind and solar resources, Xinjiang is designated as a major clean energy base in the 14th Five-Year Plan, and the development of new energy sources has entered a phase of rapid growth.

Currently, every third kilowatt-hour of electricity supplied from Xinjiang comes from clean sources—wind and solar. The volume of "green" electricity exported outside the region has already exceeded 270 billion kWh.
