Regular river electric boats, like all city transport, are currently undergoing mandatory winter preparations to ensure comfortable and safe river travel. This was announced by the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Transport and Industry. Maxim Liksutov.
"We are currently preparing our river electric vessels for the cold season, following Sergei Sobyanin's instructions. Regular river electric transport avoids congestion and is unaffected by weather conditions, running on schedule year-round. Thanks to their reinforced hulls, the vessels can navigate through finely broken ice up to 20 centimeters thick, and we always maintain a comfortable temperature at the piers and inside the vessels. Thanks to these alternative routes, Muscovites can save up to 30-40 minutes on travel," noted Maxim Liksutov.
Electric vessels are tested for heating and ventilation systems, as well as automatic doors and ramps. This type of vessel has a reinforced hull and an "ice-20" rating, allowing it to navigate through finely broken ice up to 20 centimeters thick.
During winter, icebreaker support is provided on river routes. Before winter, heating and ventilation systems are checked at piers, and the necessary equipment for clearing snow, ice, and icicles is ensured. Special attention is paid to the anti-icing systems installed at moorings to prevent ice from forming on the hull of the floating pier and the surrounding waters.
Buoys with reinforced hulls are installed along the Moscow River for navigation along the routes. These buoys have a special shape that allows them to function in icy conditions.
In addition, crews undergo additional training on occupational health and safety and transport safety in connection with deteriorating weather conditions, and are also provided with winter uniforms.
Since the beginning of 2025, passengers have taken over 1.1 million trips on year-round electric vessels. This figure represents a more than 20 percent increase compared to last year. Winter rates are in effect on regular river electric transport until April 30. More information on fares, schedules, and routes is available atwebsite.
