SYDNEY, Oct. 11 (Xinhua) — Three people were killed on Saturday morning when a light aircraft crashed and caught fire south of Wollongong in southeastern Australia.
The plane crashed near Shellharbour Airport shortly after takeoff, police in the Australian state of New South Wales said in a statement.
The plane caught fire upon impact with the ground. The fire was extinguished by state fire and rescue units.
Emergency services arrived at the scene. The Australian Transport Safety Bureau was notified of the incident.
