Gaza, Oct. 10 (Xinhua) — The ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip took effect at 12:00 p.m. local time (09:00 GMT) on Friday, sources said.
The Israeli army confirmed in a brief statement that the ceasefire had taken effect. According to local witnesses, calm has returned to most areas of the coastal enclave, marking the beginning of the implementation of the agreement reached after weeks of negotiations brokered by Egypt and other international actors.
