Pyongyang, October 10 (Xinhua) — A ceremonial gathering to mark the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK) was held at May Day Stadium in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) on Thursday, the official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported on Friday.
Kim Jong-un, General Secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea and Chairman of State Affairs of the DPRK, delivered a speech. Delegations from foreign parties and governments also participated in the event.
In his speech, Kim Jong-un spoke about the history of the party's formation and its leading role in the country's revolution.
He stated that by successfully carrying out social transformation at various stages under the banner of the Juche idea, the WPK has built a genuine people's country, a powerful state that comprehensively embodies socialist ideas and ideals, and has made significant contributions to advancing the international cause of independence and justice.
According to Kim Jong-un, despite all the severe trials, the WPK steadfastly and proudly holds the banner of independence and socialism. The international prestige of the DPRK, as a staunch supporter of socialist forces and a bulwark of independence and justice, continues to grow.
He said he would work with the North Korean people to transform the country into a richer and more beautiful socialist state.
