Beijing, October 9 (Xinhua) — China will continue to cooperate with all parties to promote the healthy development of international human rights, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said on Thursday.
According to media reports, the 60th session of the UN Human Rights Council (HRC) unanimously adopted a resolution proposed by the PRC on economic, social and cultural rights.
Answering a question on the matter at a daily press briefing, Guo Jiakun said that the 60th session of the HRC unanimously adopted the resolution “Promotion and protection of economic, social and cultural rights in the context of addressing inequality,” submitted by China on behalf of nearly 70 countries, including Bolivia, Egypt, Pakistan and South Africa.
The resolution calls for strengthening multilateralism and international cooperation, as well as making full use of platforms such as the UN Knowledge Centre on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights, established at the initiative of China, to effectively provide technical assistance and capacity-building support to countries in need.
"Representatives from various countries congratulated China on the adoption of this resolution. Developing countries stated that the resolution reflects the real needs of people around the world and is a strong response to developing countries' calls for greater investment in economic, social, and cultural rights," the Chinese diplomat said.
Guo Jiakun assured that China will continue to uphold genuine multilateralism, strengthen dialogue and cooperation with all parties on the basis of equality and mutual respect, and promote the healthy development of international human rights.
