BEIJING, Oct. 9 (Xinhua) — The number of border crossings in China reached 16.34 million during the eight-day National Day and Mid-Autumn Festival holidays that ended Wednesday, data from the National Immigration Administration showed Thursday.

According to official data, the average daily number of border crossings exceeded 2 million people, an increase of 11.5 percent compared to the same period last year.

During the aforementioned holidays, the number of border crossings through Chinese checkpoints by foreign citizens jumped by 21.6 percent to 1.43 million. A total of 751,000 foreign citizens entered the country, including 535,000 visa-free. Both figures increased year-on-year by 19.8 percent and 46.8 percent, respectively. -0-
