Baku, October 8 (Xinhua) — The Russian team took first place in the overall medal standings at the 3rd Commonwealth of Independent States Games, which concluded on Wednesday in Azerbaijan.

Russian athletes won 124 gold, 61 silver, and 40 bronze medals. In second place was host Azerbaijan, which won 33 gold, 53 silver, and 92 bronze medals. Third place went to Belarus, with 32 gold, 35 silver, and 52 bronze medals. A total of ten countries won medals.

The competition program included 23 sports, including wrestling, boxing, judo, rhythmic gymnastics, football for boys under 16 years old and the Azerbaijani equestrian game chovgan.

The competition brought together 1,624 athletes from 13 countries, including eight CIS states, as well as Turkey, Cuba, Kuwait, Pakistan, and Oman. The Games took place from September 28 to October 8 at 12 sports arenas in seven cities across Azerbaijan.
