Moscow, October 8 /Xinhua/ — The edifice of Russian-US relations is steadily crumbling, cracks have already reached its foundation, and the impetus for a Ukrainian settlement generated by the meeting of Russian and American leaders in Alaska has largely been exhausted. This was stated by Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov on Wednesday.

"We have a certain edifice of relations that's cracked and crumbling. And the Americans are to blame for this. The cracks have now reached the foundation," Sergei Ryabkov told reporters.

According to him, the reason for the steady growth of the “graveyard of agreements” on arms control lies in the destructive line of the United States.

"The graveyard of arms control agreements is growing. This is due to the destructive policy of the United States, which, since the early 2000s, under President George W. Bush, has abandoned the principles, ideas, and approaches that for decades underpinned strategic stability and international security," the Russian Deputy Foreign Minister recalled.

S. Ryabkov warned that if any country makes the mistaken decision to conduct nuclear tests, which is detrimental to global security, Moscow will respond in kind.

"If any capital that possesses the necessary potential makes erroneous and detrimental decisions to conduct tests—and Washington, of course, is primarily the focus of our attention in this context—then we will respond in kind, and it won't be long in coming," the Russian diplomat said.

“We will not compromise our security interests under any circumstances,” he emphasized.

Touching on the Ukrainian crisis, a representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry noted that the momentum for a settlement generated at the meeting of Russian and US leaders in Alaska has largely been exhausted.

“Unfortunately, we have to admit that the powerful impetus of Anchorage in favor of agreements has been largely exhausted by the efforts of opponents and the efforts of supporters of war to the last Ukrainian, especially among Europeans,” stated S. Ryabkov. –0–
