BEIJING, Oct. 6 (Xinhua) — The Red Cross Society of China on Monday activated an emergency response mechanism after Typhoon Matmo, the 21st typhoon this year, hit Guangdong Province in southern China.

According to the organization, 3,400 emergency aid kits, including family emergency kits and blankets, were urgently dispatched to the affected areas.

Typhoon Matmo made landfall on the east coast of Xuwen County, Zhanjiang City, Guangdong Province, around 2:50 p.m. on October 5. It also brought strong winds and heavy rain to parts of Hainan Province, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, and Yunnan Province. –0–
