BEIJING, Oct. 6 (Xinhua) — Chinese scientists have discovered that the mantle on the far side of the moon is colder than on the near side after analyzing lunar soil samples collected by China's Chang'e-6 lunar probe.
This discovery provides petrological and geochemical evidence for temperature differences between the near and far sides of the lunar mantle, as well as key scientific data for studying the evolution of the Moon.
The study was jointly conducted by the Beijing Institute of Uranium Geology, Peking University and Shandong University and published in the journal Nature Geoscience. -0-
