CARACAS, Oct. 4 (Xinhua) — The Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of the Americas (ALBA) on Friday condemned the "recent illegal incursion of US military aircraft" into Venezuelan airspace.
The intrusion, discovered Thursday just 75 km off the coast of the Latin American country, has drawn criticism from Caracas.
“This act constitutes a serious provocation that undermines national sovereignty and constitutes a direct violation of international law, threatening the peace and stability of the entire region,” the Bolivarian Alliance noted.
Such aggressive military maneuvers violate the fundamental principles of peaceful coexistence between states and indicate an attempt to provoke tension, fear, and destabilization in Latin American and Caribbean countries, the statement emphasized.
The Alliance warned that “such actions not only affect a Member State, but also jeopardise the safety of civil and commercial aviation in the Caribbean, creating unacceptable risks for the people of the region.”
On Friday, Venezuela complained to the UN about the incursion of American aircraft.
The Bolivarian Alliance includes 10 countries from Latin America and the Caribbean. –0–
