LOS ANGELES, Oct. 4 (Xinhua) — A massive fire that broke out Thursday evening at a Chevron refinery in the U.S. city of El Segundo (Los Angeles County, California) has been contained, local authorities reported Friday.
The fire broke out around 9:00 PM on Thursday. The flames were visible for miles. Officials say there is no threat to the public.
“All refinery employees and contractors have been accounted for, and there are no casualties,” Chevron said in a statement.
No evacuation of nearby residents was required. According to refinery representatives, no excess levels of harmful substances in the air were detected.
