BEIJING, Oct. 4 (Xinhua) — China's internet sector saw robust growth in operating revenue in the first eight months of 2025, according to data from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.

From January to August 2025, China's major internet companies and related service companies generated about 1.29 trillion yuan (approximately US$181.46 billion) in business revenue, up 2.2 percent year-on-year and 0.8 percentage points higher than the first quarter of 2025.

The combined profits of major internet companies during this period reached 106.3 billion yuan, down 3.8 percent year-on-year, and down 4.5 percentage points from the first half of the year.

Research and development expenditure in the first eight months of 2025 was 66.86 billion yuan, up 3.4 percent year-on-year.

Large Internet companies and companies providing related services are those whose annual income from the Internet and related services is at least 20 million yuan. -0-
