ISLAMABAD, Sept. 30 (Xinhua) — At least nine security personnel were killed and eight others wounded in an improvised explosive device (IED) blast on Monday in Pakistan's northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, security officials said.

The incident occurred after a security convoy was hit by an IED in Mulla Khan Sarai area of South Waziristan agency of the province, security officials said on Monday.

Police, security forces and rescue teams arrived at the scene immediately after the explosion and took the wounded to a hospital located in the area.

Police cordoned off the area and launched a search operation in the surrounding area to arrest the perpetrators.
