The anniversary 20th Rosneft Summer Sports Games concluded in Sochi. Twenty of the strongest teams from the Company's subsidiaries across the country, all of whom had successfully passed the qualifying rounds, competed at the Olympic stadiums.
Over the course of four days, oil industry athletes competed for the title of the strongest in 18 team and individual events. Sochi's Olympic venues hosted competitions in futsal, basketball, volleyball, table tennis, chess, strongman, billiards, tug-of-war, shooting, as well as track and field relays and races. Swimming was included in the Games program for the first time this year.
Sports development is a key focus of Rosneft's social policy. The Company's Summer and Winter Sports Games are the largest events, attended by thousands of oil workers. Nearly 3,000 employees from 70 teams of Rosneft subsidiaries participated in the regional qualifying rounds of the Summer Sports Games, which took place in nine cities across the country.
Based on the overall team standings, the Verkhnechonskneftegaz team won the 20th Rosneft Summer Sports Games for the second year in a row. Athletes from the Irkutsk Region won the most podiums, guaranteeing the team victory. Second place went to the Novokuibyshevsk Oil Refinery team, while RN-Uvatneftegaz took the honorable bronze.
The oil workers demonstrated strong results and set new records in team and individual competitions.
Thus, in the women's table tennis tournament, Olga Lisova from Novokuibyshevsky Oil Refinery became the overall champion, winning all nineteen matches without dropping a single set. The winner of the men's table tennis tournament, Ruslan Shvaiko from Angara, became the youngest participant in the tournament, born in 2001.
The Verkhnechonskneftegaz team won all seven matches of the basketball tournament, including the final, confirming its status as the strongest in this sport. The Bashneft-Dobycha volleyball team also defended its title this year, winning all its matches. The Bashneft-Pererabotka team won the mini-football tournament after a close battle.
The track and field athletes from Samaraneftegaz won the team competitions in the 500- and 1000-meter dashes for both men and women. Dmitry Obolenskikh from Angara won the men's chess competition, going undefeated in 19 games and drawing only three. Lyudmila Vlasova from Uvatneftegaz won the women's chess tournament, winning 18 of 19 matches. The swimmers from Samotlorneftegaz emerged as the strongest in the team competition.
