The city of Panjin in Liaoning Province has also begun the mass harvest of rice crabs, with plump crabs already arriving at market. This year, the area under river crab farming in Panjin exceeded 1.9 million mu (approximately 126,700 hectares), of which over 1 million mu (approximately 66,700 hectares) is under symbiotic rice-crab cultivation. Total rice crab production is expected to reach 57,000 tons. The annual rice crab season is the busiest time for local aquatic product dealers. Regular customers typically place pre-orders as early as early September.
