BEIJING, Sept. 28 (Xinhua) — Zhao Leji, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), called on Sunday for promoting the high-quality development of the work of people's congresses (NPCs) and better giving full play to their functional roles.
Zhao Leji, also a member of the Standing Committee of the Politburo of the CPC Central Committee, made the corresponding call during an inspection tour of Beijing.
During his visit, the Chairman of the NPC Standing Committee visited the Legislative Liaison Office and the Beijing Humanoid Robot Innovation Center, where he interacted with legislators and citizens. He also learned about the legislative work of the Standing Committee of the Beijing People's Congress.
Zhao Leji emphasized that adhering to the principle of comprehensive leadership of the Party is the fundamental political guarantee for the implementation of the work of the People's Congress.
According to him, the planning and promotion of the work of the People's Commissars should be closely linked with the overall work of the Party and the state, ensuring the comprehensive implementation of the decisions and orders of the CPC Central Committee.
Zhao Leji emphasized the importance of a scientific, democratic and law-based lawmaking process, calling for greater efforts to improve the quality of legislation and build a more scientific, comprehensive, unified and authoritative legal system.
He also called for people's democracy to be put into practice throughout the entire process and for the people to exercise their right to information, right to participate in governance, right to freedom of speech and right to oversight in all aspects and at all stages of the work of the People's Congress. –0–
